This little place serves up meat & 2 plates, sandwiches, and some decent chopped pork barbecue. It is located just north of Sanford, a mile or so off US Hwy 421. Not much to look at, inside or out, decor is very plain - some old cooking, items, statues of pigs and such - pretty much a county dive.
We tried the daily specials of Flounder & Shrimp, and their Chicken 'N Dumplings. The Chicken and Dumplings, alone with field pieces and collards, all tatsted like it came from a can. The Chicken and Dumplings looked good, but lacked any real flavor - and the vegetables were just plain bad.
The Flounder and Shrimp were not bad, decent taste for frozen items. The accompanying were not good at all - limp, undercooked, and an off color - neith brown or white, kind of a gray. Hush puppies were large, dense, cooked to a dar brown - taste wasn't all that bad.
The Chopped Barbecue Sandwich, with white slaw, was decent, middle of the road pig. It is finely chopped, almost minced, moist, tender, but with no hint of smokiness. It is lightly sauced with a very mild vinegar based sauce, no pepper falkes or heat. The pork sandwich here reminded me of the one a Kepley's in High Point - not bad, but nothing special. There were posters around the place proclaiming that Bud's Barbecue had been, at some point, voted the best barbecue in Chatham County - folks must not know about Allen & Son in Pittsboro, now that is some barbecue.
The hot dog here is ok at best - the chili is thin, with no kick, and very little is applied to the dog. Wiener is definitely not all beef, probably no beef. Would pass it by - same with most items here, I think
