The restaurant seemed like a beacon of deliciousness and a good idea coming out of the Cascade National Park.  There were signs on the entrance doors informing the public that the rest rooms were for customers only which at first confused us that we were potentially using the bathroom instead of entering the restaurant.  After boldly pushing past the warning sign we were seated very promptly but were ignored by 3 frantic waitresses for quite some time.  They all appeared to be very busy, even witnessed one waitress run to her table, but the restaurant was not that full.  We finally flagged down a waitress to place our order and our food came out faster than scoring our waitress.  She never came over to check on us and we ate very quickly and got out.   We unfortunately  will not be returning.  I'm fairly confident that the staff is qualified it is just the way the restaurant is operated.  Properly staffing associates with specific duties would have made this visit more pleasant not just for the patrons but for the hard working employees as well.

I will just sum up our experience in four words, do not go here. I can only say one nice thing about this place, it has a nice outdoor seating area, but the food, service and owner Candy are to be avoided.

The Buffalo steak was very good.
Stay away from the chicken wings (mushy) -- and the steamed vegetables weren't very fresh.
    The staff was very sweet.
We'd eat here again just for the meat!

Too bad there is no cell coverage in Marblemont, or I would have avoided this restaurant. As the others have said before me, this is not a recommended stop. Expensive, slow and all in all disappointing you're better off getting an apple and some chips at the gas station across the street.

There is no option for a zero.  Look at the reviews from every site.  These people have no earthy reason to be in business.  Owner fakes his own reviews (look, only one review ever from a person & of course it is stellar.  HA)  They claim everything is fresh and that exotic meats come from a local ranch.  B.S.!  They were arrested in a sting operation this Fall for illegally purchasing and selling poached, out of season, wild game in their restaurant.  Unforgiveable.  They are liars, rude, and leave a horrible taste in the mouth of those entering & leaving the N. Cascades.  They are in business because they are most visible and it is a one time stop.  Hence, the HUGE checks people complain about, as well as a poor meal.  Shame on them for their illegal and unforgettable behavior.

Stopped here while looking for another restaurant.  We're glad we made a mistake.

Enjoyed sitting out back in their beautiful patio area.  Only 2 servers working on a very busy Tuesday after Labor Day.  They did pretty good.

I had the special of the day cheeseburger & fries.  Nothing exceptional.  Just good quality burg.  Hubby had the elk burger & was disappointed it wasn't gamier.  He had the side of potato salad with his burg.

A little piece of cookie & cream pie topped off the meal just right.  Would stop here again if on the HWY.

Don't be fooled by the roadside diner look from the outside.  This place is very nice on the inside and has a very cool patio area.  Lots of interesting choices for burgers to include beef, elk, kangaroo, ostrich and buffalo.  I got the kangaroo.  I was a bit underwhelmed.  Burger pattie was thin and a bit overlooked.  My wife got the beef burger and it was thicker and cooked perfectly medium.  We also got a side garden salad that was ok.  Lettuce was a bit wilted.  The servers were nice.  I'd give this place another chance.  Next time I'm going to try the ostrich burger.  Some of the dinners were very expensive.  Upwards of $40-$45 for the more exotic cuts of meat.  Not quite sure this place really has the chops to pull that sort of fancy meal off, but I guess someone must be ordering it.

Well, it all started on a Friday morning at 11:00. My wife and I were both very hungry, not knowing there was a newly opened restaurant next door decided to try the Buffalo Run for the 2nd time. when we arrived, the supposed "part owner" was chewing out what turned out to be a very nice young foreign waitress. She was getting picked on by her and the other waitress. both of us felt sorry for her. Can you imagine being belittled in front of customers? This "part owner" lady was RUDE. we ordered an extremely over priced Rueben Sandwich. It had about .50 cents worth of meat on it and .20 cents worth of sauerkraut. We tipped the girl $10.00 when no one was looking, told her she did a great job and told her to stick it in her pocket. We drive by there at least once a month and will never eat there again. The windows are greasy looking too.

I am sorry to have to add to the "meh" reviews. I had high hopes in spite of those reviews.

I was all for ordering me up a slab of elk or buffalo steak, but the prices versus the atmosphere and service suggested I stick with something more classic. You would think with $45 elk medallion meals listed on the menu, that the place might not look like a divey diner, but it sure does. On to what actually matters, though, the food!!

I went with the lunch version of the buffalo burger. The patty was so thin, I could barely even taste the meat! And I love red onions, but I had to pick a ton off! There was no flavor. And since it was the lunch burger, even though it was 8:30 at night, I got chips. I was told by the waitress to not do the Tatonka burger because it was gigantic, but I didn't realize I was missing out on the french fries. :( I like the taste of buffalo, and I was excited to taste buffalo, but alas...

My boyfriend got the Bavarian Bratwurst dinner... it left a lot to be desired for the $20 they charged us. The bratwurst were tasty enough, but the noodles (may have called them linguine, but they were NOT linguine noodles) were soggy and unflavored. There was no sauce. It was just plain bratwurst and plain noodles on a plate together.

Our friends got the $18 Chicken Breast dinner with french fries, even though one ordered a baked potato. Too hungry to care, they went to town on it. It looked fine, but I would not have been happy to pay that much for a plain chicken breast and french fries...

All in all, this was rather disappointing. It was our first time in the area, and it was so beautiful that I know we will be returning...but not to Buffalo Run Restaurant... By the way, if you are going East on State Route 20, there are signs all over for Buffalo Run, and it is the first restaurant that you see in Marblemount (tiny tiny little town that it is), so you may think that is your only option. There are about four more restaurants with no reviews or listed in the area brochures or wesbites, and they are right after Buffalo Run! Keep driving!

Went there on a Friday night. It was moderately busy. Only two waitresses on duty. Took fifteen minutes to get our drink orders. A half hour wait for a tough buffalo steak and soggy vegetables. The owner, "I've had this place for eighteen years!", doesn't have a clue about running a restaurant. Bottom line...terrible service, mediocre, over priced food. The owner mistakenly thought everyone within hearing distance agreed with his politics. We won't be back & you shouldn't bother going.

I'm a "foodie".....but a practical "foodie". I don't expect Parisian cuisine  or bargain prices on a remote outing such as this one. However, I had some of the best ribs ever last night. Okay. I could hammer on some less consequential negative aspects of the dinner.  But why?  The food was good. The self- promotion of the owner all in good humor, and the place was fun. The owner, who also owns the pristine hotel/B and B of the same name just a nice stroll down the road, provided us with local knowledge of the area, and had our travel plans established for the next two days.....all with good nature and before the main course arrived. Stay at the hotel and eat at the restaurant. We'll be back.

We came into the Buffalo Run on a Sunday around 11:30 or so, seriously hungry because we hadn't had anything to eat yet that day.  When my friend went in to ask if they were open, and if there was breakfast, she was told Denny's was the only breakfast place around...not really what we were looking for as we had eaten in the rest of the weekend and wanted to try something fun and local.

I split a venison burger with my friend, others in our party had a kangaroo burger, a salmon burger and a regular beef burger.  We also tried out the local version of Rocky Mountain Oysters - deep friend testicles with tartar sauce...fun enough in concept, but most of us felt a little queasy after finishing our food.  Our waitress was also a bit distracted , got my friend's order a bit mixed up, and overall wasn't very friendly.  We asked if the meat was from the ranch across from our lodgings down Highway 20, she replied that there certainly weren't enough buffalo there to satisfy the demand so they flew other meat in.

I wish I had perused the yelp reviews before making our trip to the area, as there isn't much cell phone reception except for Verizon.  If I had known what would await us, we would have done much better to eat eggs and potatoes at home.

We've dined in this place twice, and on both occasions it was because we were returning from day-long hikes in the mountains, and this was the only restaurant open in Marblemount after 7pm.  And perhaps that explains why the owner is able to charge ridiculously high prices for mediocre food.  On our recent visit (October 2011), we both ordered Buffalo Stroganoff.  Tiny bits of meat in cream sauce over bow tie pasta, with garlic toast.  Nothing else included.  $18.95.  The stroganoff was nothing special.  The cafeteria at the hospital where I work makes a version that is just as good, if not better, for $4.95. And they include a vegetable.

While we were having our dinner, we overheard the owner chatting up people at a nearby table, bragging about how he was able to spend 6 weeks of every year touring in Europe.  So there you have it - a sure fire recipe for financial success: open a restaurant in a remote area where you have a steady supply of tourists with no other late evening dining options.  Set the menu prices to criminally high levels, and enjoy a life of luxury.

If you are looking for a meal near Marblemount, before 7pm, go to the Eatery, at Clark's Skagit River Resort.  Great home-style cooking at reasonable prices, and nice people.

I had an Elk burger. Decent size and enough for lunch. Prices will never be convenient in these "remote" places, so don't look surprised to pay more than $8 for a simple burger. You are not in a city anymore.

I finished with a blue berry pie, that could alone get only 1 star.

Service was good. Clean restrooms and given that there are really few options once you are there...enjoy!

Let me start by saying I am not a high-maintenance kind of guy. I'm a cook in a restaurant in Seattle, so I have a great empathy for my fellow industry workers. That being said, this is absolutely the worst place I have ever eaten.

Me and some friends had spent a few nights in the backwoods at ross lake and stopped by on our drive back to Seattle to get some food. I should have been a little wary of the 'world famous' hook... there weren't many other options around, so we decided to give it a try.

Our waitress was nice, she was kind of frazzled and forgetful, but she was the only one on the floor (maybe a 'world famous' restaurant should be adequately staffed). She spent as much time with our table as she could, answering our questions and keeping our drinks full.

We ordered two appetizers and looked through their menu. The waitress informed me that all their meats came from a local farm and butcher. With that in mind, I ordered a venison burger. Others at my table ordered the elk burger, the kangaroo burger, a philly cheesesteak, and something off of the vegan menu (I can't recall what it was). After a few minutes, the food arrived.

The burgers patties were so minuscule that it would literally be impossible to cook them any less than medium-well. Each burger tasted almost identical- a flavorless, rubbery slab of grayish meat; I would not be surprised if they were microwaving store-bought freezer patties. All of this piled upon a dry bun, buried under an overwhelming amount of vegetables.

We finished our entrees and ordered dessert, which seemed to be the highlight of the meal. Their pies were good, nothing memorable though. Our waitress dropped our bill on the table.. we all froze up. Somehow we had racked up a 40something dollar per-person tab (and not a single one of us ordered alcohol!).

We all had cash on hand, except for one of my friends who was going to take care of the rest of the bill on his card. As we approached the register, we were given dirty looks by some tired old man with a tattooed forearm- i regret not asking his name. He counted out our cash, and before we could explain that my friend would take care of the remainder on his card, he belted out "WELL ARE YOU GONNA TIP THE LADY?"... Absolutely outrageous. (Don't worry, we tipped her, despite that asshole).

We all left soon after, pretty flustered by the entire experience. If you're ever driving by and entertain the idea of going there, please, for your own good, go somewhere else. Eating gas station burritos is preferable to this trainwreck.

Stopped by here for lunch.  since there are not many options and I didn't have Internet access to find a better place to eat, I will give them a bonus star.

Food was just ok.  they way overcooked my burger and the portions were very small.  My daughter had a Philly cheese steak with Fries (12.95) and she was still hungry. - in fact, we all did.  good thing we found an ice cream shop a few miles down the road.

I did, however, really enjoy the outdoor seating.  it was very comfortable and relaxing.

they did offer a variety of meats to choose from, but I am not really into buffalo.

overall, this place isn't bad, but once is enough.

I led a car club drive to the area and we stopped in for lunch.  We sat outside at many of the tables on the patio and shortly afterwards the owner/manager (?) came out yelling for who was in charge of the group.

He proceeded to "tear me a new one" because we hadn't alerted him ahead of time.  I apologized and then pointed out that everyone in our group was enjoying pleasant conversation amongst ourselves, we were not in a hurry, and that we usually tip very well. The gentleman grumbled and barked several more times about how it was difficult for his staff to accomodate all the people, etc.  I again apologized and ponted out that we hadn't filled all the tables.

After he left, one of the Harley bikers at the next table leaned over and said "Did he just chew you out for bringing all this business into his restaurant?".  I smiled and agreed - it was abusive.  The food ended up being adequate as a novelty but expensive.

As we left, one of the ladies wanted to buy a cookie at the front counter and when she went up the cashier refused to sell her one stating

"we're too busy to sell you a cookie"

I'm planning another trip, and have scouted out the area, had a great meal elsewhere.  This time we're stopping into a small place called The Eatery, click here:

Be the only open restaurant in a remote area after 8 pm.

    Cut costs on food quality.

Hire one waiter for 15 tables.

    Ridiculously overcharge.

    PROFIT!

(the owner was a really nice guy though)

Coming out of the Cascade Loop at about 11 am on a Sunday, we were looking for breakfast/brunch. Stopped at the first place we saw, which was this joint. Big mistake. Once inside, looking at a menu, we noted no breakfast. Asked why not at 11 am - got a shrug from the waitress. Asked her if there was anyplace else close by that is serving breakfast - "Denny's about 1 hour & a half away" came her smart-ass answer.

So I ordered the baked potato - don't ask me why - at $10.95, I was expecting something wonderful - and honey ordered the turkey/swiss sandwich and requested they add bacon. Potato - meh. Sandwich - pitiful; it had two very thin slices of turkey - when you held it up, you could pretty much see through it - one small slice of cheese and two teeny-tiny pieces of bacon that they had the balls to charge extra for (shaking head). And the waitress did not check back to see if we were happy - we had to go look for her to get our check. You'd think seeing almost two full plates of food that something was wrong; did she bother to ask? No. Wondered if we still wanted the two lattes and a monster cookie to go - we said in the beginning that we would - told her no, thank you; don't bother.

Left very unsatisfied. What made it worse, there were several places before we hit "civilization" again that we could have tried - either the young lady out & out lied or just had no clue as to the area she lived/worked in.

It's not quite worth going here though you'll find little else nearby.  Our food was mediocre overall but we were hungry so nobody seemed to mind.  The waitress was attentive and very helpful in fixing our orders when they were mixed up however the manager was impatient and disagreeable when it came to pay our group's bill individually.

Coming out of a 5 day backpacking trip we walked in to the Buffalo run looking for some serious food ... and beer.  As it turns out they had us exactly where they wanted us, and used that position to milk us of our money while providing disappointing dining experience.  Seriously, we were six people that had just spend 5 days in the woods eating freeze dried 'lasagna', we were starving. And still we all found the food unappetizing and not fufilling.

The menu seemed to have everything right, and i ordered a buffalo burger with fries and swiss cheese, along with a side of bacon.  When it came i got about 12 fries and the bacon was comically thinly sliced.  Each of those sides was a couple bucks, plus the burger and two beers and I ended up spending almost $30.

Do yourself a favor and be patient next time you're coming out of the hills and want to eat.

It's not fair to review when you're famished, but I'm doing it anyways! So, yeah, I was hungry beyond belief. I'd been on Boston Peak all day, minimal snacks. ugh. I stopped at the first place I could find and sat outside on the back patio. I wasn't in the mood to be creative, so I had a beef burger. Now either I'm getting really strong, or that 1/3 lb. burger wasn't quite 1/3 lbs. Whatever, who cares... I devoured it and it was fine. But wait, they charge for fries? with a burger? who does that? Oh, they do! O well. They did serve a very cold Corona on a hot, sweaty day and that made it all happy!

As the previous person said, its bang against the cascade mountain.

They have got different kind of meats you dont find in most American restaurant, which I gets is their USP.

Huge portions (including a plate sized dinner salad).  The buffalo comes from a ranch nearby.  I had the buffalo Sstroganoff

A little pricey ($15-$20 for a main dish), but there's not many options in this neck of the wood.  You're bang against the Cascade Mountain.

Despite the prices, hiker/biker friendly and a fairly casual setting.
