We only went to the bar around the corner, not the restaurant section. Full liquor bar with about 10 beers on tap. There's a bunch of pool tables, skeeball (prizes are booze, but it';s almost impossible to get enough pts to win anything), foozball, air hockey, etc. Nice big area, but with limited seating. There's a small stage area but it was just a DJ with a computer set up. You have to go through an foyer that reeks of cigarette smoke to get in the place, but at least they don't allow smoking inside.
Review Source:I've been really disappointed in Bunky's on my last two visits. The most recent was June 22nd. we had to seat ourselves, the food was just OK and our waitress wasn't that great. It's going to be awhile before I go back there again. Over the last 2 years it appears there has been a steady decline in the service and food at Bunky's.
Review Source:We love Bunky's! This place has the type of laid back neighborhood seafood bar vibe you'd expect for a place right across the street from the beach. We've always enjoyed the good attitudes and prompt, informative service of the staff, and the food is always fresh and delicious - although I'll admit, most times I order Mad Mike's Wings because they're some of the very best tasting and plumpest I've had in Florida, with plenty of wing sauce combinations to choose from (my fav is the extra hot with added minced garlic - I always come armed with a tin of Altoids for the sake of the greater good). The grouper sandwich is big and tasty, the oysters rockefeller is fresh and flavorful (don't forget the Tabasco!), the crab cakes are well seasoned and full of actual crab meat (unlike the pricier version with mostly filler you get at some tourist traps further south I've been to), and the snow crab is sweet and delicious. We've never ordered anything at Bunky's we didn't like - even my daughter, who is a notorious kids' menu critic and always outspoken if something isn't done right!
Speaking of the kids, they'll have fun too - Bunky's has cool aquariums, a claw game, video games, shuffleboard, and a goofy Bunky the Oyster mascot dropping in occasionally. There's also touch-screen games for people at the bar, which is sufficiently separate from the restaurant area. The beer is always cold and the food is always good - enough to make me wish we lived closer so we could come "get shucked" more often!
This is a great local place. Fun for the kids because they have a ton of  aquariums and the CLAW game for kids to play! As for the food, always fresh, always tasty! Service - this has always been a sore spot for me here. Slow, to no service sometimes. Even when they aren't busy. They have some pretty good specials, especially for dinner and drinks. It's dark and seedy looking, but the food is worth it.
Review Source:We wanted fresh seafood on vacation. Decided on Bunkys as it was close to the beach.
We orders oysters rockefeller, gator tail, seafood pasta, and snow crab.
Cold draft beer also. Because that's what you do on vacation.
This place rocked out to classic jams and that made me happy enough, before the meal got there. We are talking Skynyrd, the Stones, Aerosmith, and more. Yes.
Oysters Rockefeller came out fresh and hot. Absolutely delicious with a dash of Tabasco.
Seafood pasta in white wine sauce-- had clams, shrimp, and scallops. Good, but next time a few more clams. Plenty of shrimp but skimpy on scallops and clams. TONS of pasta....
Snow crab was fresh and sweet with hot drawn butter.
Gator tail grilled was more memorable than the fried.
Our server was good even if overloaded by the crowd at lunch...only two servers!
I would give it a four because it was cold beer and decent food, but I feel like there may have been better nearby and we were just hungry. I would go back but not as a first choice.
This a beachside dive bar with a large menu, featuring fresh shucked oysters. Â Not great, not terrible, not memorable.
If you like oysters then this may be your place. Â A dozen Louisiana mollusks go for $11.99, with a dollar-off special on Tuesday nite. Â Now these southern belles are not to be confused with their counterparts from Maine, Washington State or Canada. Â I am no oyster snob, but there clearly is a taste difference, as well as a price difference. Â Bucky's oysters on this evening were indeed large, though without any significant taste characteristics like salinity or buttery notes. Â But they were still good (and cheap) with copious amounts of ketchup, horsey sauce and Saltines.
My fish and chips exceeded what I expected. Â In the stereotypical red, paper lined basket was a golden brown, fried portion of decent white fish. Â The only regret was that I would have preferred more fish rather than the larger portion of mediocre French fries. Â
My sweet tea was not up to par, especially for being in the south. Â But hey, this is a bar...
One of my colleagues had the crab cakes. Â Bread-ey and just meh, the server said that they are made fresh in-house. Â Perhaps the server should protect the chef's good name and submit that they were made elsewhere. Â The chef did get the side dish, grilled zucchini, right. Â Lightly grilled this vegetable was a simple, tasty accompaniment.
Another colleague enjoyed the snow crab legs. Â Steamed and served with drawn butter my friend polished off the entire plate of long, spidery delicacies.
Philly Barb was our server. Â She kept us all happy with decent service. Â She's a ex-pat homer, wearing a Sixers hat, a proud Phillies lover and a 'Boys hater. Â So the Bunkmeister gets an extra 1/2 star.
If you are not all about the cheap oysters then my observation is that Bunky's is a cheap, fun after-beach hangout for a few beers. Â Better as a surfer bar, Â Bunky's is just lame as a restaurant, dude.
What a total disappointment! Â I went in at 9:30 on a Thursday night and there were 5 or 6 other people in the place and the "bartender" took 15 minutes to take my order. Â It was emptying out and they were closing the place down at 10:00 PM. Come to find out they have rented the space behind the restaurant and are operating an illegal nightclub with live music. Â They are too cheap to pay for the proper license and aren't very smart about it. Â I went back in a couple days later on a Saturday afternoon and there were a few more people but the service totally sucked! Â The "bartender" Ron, thinks he's quite clever but he's just sad. He was also running the cash register with and open drawer. As an X bar owner and bartender, you only do that when you are stealing money from the till and don't want it to show up on the register tape/report. Â The clam chowder was thick but lacked any real flavor and the clams were more like rubber bands. This place is disgusting and I'll never give them another dime. Â McDonalds has better fish!
Review Source:I wasn't sure about Bunky's when I walked in the door. Â It's at the end of a strip mall, which immediately gives it an air of being unspectacular, but a lot of things in Florida (and the South in general, for that matter) are in strip malls, so I usually don't let that stop me. Â The inside has a bunch of video games and what looked like some sort of air hockey or shuffleboard table as well as trivia on screens overhead. Â The drinks were good, but nothing to write home about. Â The food was also good, as was the service (but not great). Â The next time I'm in Melbourne (whenever that is), I think I'll try somewhere else.
Review Source:I've eaten here about five times and have never been impressed. Â I have no desire to return. Â The food is overpriced and mediocre at best. Â The beer selection is just so-so (I'm spoiled by Coasters though). Â The best way to describe this place is "tourist trap." Â Â It is a loud, not so nice cavernous interior with few windows and no outdoor seating. Â The service is consistently slow and inattentive. Â There is just nothing about the place that I would recommend. Â There is a Thai/sushi restaurant in the same plaza that is great and a much better value.
Review Source:Fun atmosphere, good food quality and selection, but the place is overpriced and there are much better places to go beachside.
I won't be going back anytime soon. Here's why:
- service was terribly slow
- my teenage daughter asked for a Caesar salad ($7.95). Â The waiter asked if she wanted chicken - she said yea. We get the bill and her chicken Caesar salad cost $14.25, which almost doubled the price. When I asked the waiter he said something about the computer and that's the way he had to put it in, or something like that. The best he could do was take $1.50 off the price. Â Now that's one hell of an upsell. I guess they're used to ripping off tourists... Â
Try Goombays for fresh, high quality seafood!
The story you are about to read is true...
4:48 pm Saturday. My partner and I are driving down A1A when we detect an important clue. My father's nickname was "Bunky", so stopping at this salty roadside bar is important.
We have a few beers and order some food while playing the NTN trivia which is available at the bar. The atmosphere is a cross between an old style arcade and a beach bar in a strip mall. Beer is cold and served promptly.
I have the Mad Mikes Wings while my partner gets the fried gator tail. The wings are quite spicy and have a great flavor and the gator is very tender and delicately fried.
Good bar food and cold beer. Not a bad stop if your making the trip.
This review based on the bar only.
I was slapped in the face by the fish smell when I walked in the door. It was a quite nasty smell that took a while to get used to. But they are a fish place and they were shucking raw oysters right in front of the door. I came here on a Thursday night. The place had a decent crowd. Apparently this is where everyone hangs out in Melbourne.
The bartender was attentive and funny. Alot of people seemed to be enjoying themselves eating oysters and hanging out.
I love the mascot (Bunky the oyster) pretty comical. LOL. Anyway, I liked their drink menu (and any place that HAS a drink menu gets a point to begin with). They have some creative "beachy/tropical" type drinks which I appreciate. I don't remember the name of my drink but it was damn good and it looked cool! (see pic) Some sort of rum, pineapple, coconut thing.
Overall I liked Bunky's. The drinks were great, the staff was friendly, and the place seemed clean.
I don't eat oysters but I would return to eat something else if not just for the drinks. ;-)
My big thing about Bunky's is that their Mad Mike's wings are the best chicken wings I have ever had in my life. My friends and I went to their 49 cent wing night most Mondays. I have no experience with the rest of the menu because after trying the wings we never ordered anything else! Beachy, relaxed feel. Huge TVs and a projector screen for sports fans. Some of the servers can be a little slow and forgetful but there are a few that are great. Think they are doing some more late night action now. They have a shuffleboard tournament every week. Always wanted to join but never have! Cool place.
Review Source:An absolutely terrific place! Â Part sports bar, part seafood restaurant, part raw bar, big screen TVs, salt & freshwater aquariums, spotless dining room and restrooms, reasonable prices and smiling servers & bartenders. Couldn't ask for more!
Fresh shucked oysters are outstanding. Tomato Basil Soup is so good, I wanted to buy a quart to go.
Highly recommend!
Five best features of Bunky's:
1. Â Oysters - I am an alien, and after multiple visits the oysters have been consistently good. Â Half shell, steamed and Rockefeller are all reason to come back.
2. Â Draft Beer - At least 12 to choose from. Â Glasses are clean. Â Beer is cold. Â Prices are fair. Â Always delivered in good form.
3. Â Fish sandwiches - Grilling technique is consistently acceptable. Â Fish is fresh. Â
4. Â Service - Angela has been my waitress twice. Â She is concientious, dilligent, and consistent with the group. Â No complaints about employees.
5. Â Housekeeping - Always clean and comfortable.
Five areas for improvement:
1. Â Shrimp: Â I'd rather pay more and get larger and better quality shrimp. Â
2. Â Bar seating - I am frequently by myself, and I don't mind sitting at the bar, but many of the bar seats here face into a corner, are too close to the door, and are too close together. Â If the bar were reconfigured, more patrons would elect to sit at the bar.
3. Â Recreational equipment- Bunky has table games and a get your prize with a crane machine. Â Maybe offered for atmosphere. Â I have rarely seen customers use these games. Â When the games are in play, it's uncomfortable for nearby diners. Â I don't know about Bunky's occupancy rate, but might be better off with more tables and less games.
4. Â Wine - Many customers are tourists who might have a glass of better wine. Â Not with what's offered. Â The staff barely knows that wine comes in colors, let alone brands. Â I know Bunky isn't trying for fou-fou, but the act needs to be upgraded.
5. Â Salads - not quite as good as McDonald's salad shakers. Â Needs attention.
Bring back the "old" Bunky's.
Bunky's used to be in Satellite Beach.  Then they moved south to Indiatlantic in the same strip mall as Thai Thai II.  While the new location has better décor and even better salt water aquariums everything else is was better at the old Bunky's.  The old location had a "lunch" menu with several options for a fish sandwich or wings, with a side of fries and drink for under $10.00.  Now Bunky's is only open for lunch on Friday and the weekend.  Bunky's used to serve real brewed ice tea.  In the new location they serve "Fake" Ice Tea made from a silver pouch of liquid tea concentrate that tastes just awful.  Why Bunky's could not bring with them a brewing machine when they moved South is beyond me.  If boiling water is too much trouble to make Ice Tea, then perhaps they should look for other timesavers such as throwing frozen wings in the microwave.  Before Longdoggers opened in Satellite, I dined at Buncky's with some frequency.  If you want raw Oysters Bunkys remains a great place to get them, but for a fish sandwich, Longdoggers or Squidlips have much better food, real ice tea, and are better values.  If you just need a big screen, a beer, and some wings Beef O' Bradys is a better call.  If Bunky's starts serving brewed ice tea, I will give them a second shot.
The first time I went there, I didn't stay or eat because it smelled fishy as soon as I opened the door. Â However, it was recommended by a friend, so, three months later, I went back for a second try. Â I should've stayed home.
The food was 'okay'. Â Yeah, I wasn't bowled over or wow'ed but I wasn't grossed out either, well, UNTIL I saw the chef wipe off a knife with a wet hand towel that he had been wiping the counter with. Â Can you say GERMS? Â Perhaps E. Coli? Â Salmonella? Â I was wow'ed then for sure! Â Â
The food was cold and NOT the way I ordered it, but I think that was mostly because the service "sucked", for lack of a nicer way to put it. Â Maybe if I'd been 21 years old, or a surfer dude, maybe I would have gotten better service. Â The waiter seemed to spend a lot of time on that side of the room, but I'm a much better tipper, IF ONLY he'd have given me good service. Â He even apologized for making me wait. Â How considerate. Â NOT.
The man who appeared to be in charge seemed to care, but he just wasn't everywhere at once. Â Hire a new crew, maybe one that gives a crap about their job, and you just might have a good restaurant. Â
My Review: Â Save your money or beef up on antibiotics first. Â
A better tip? Â CANTINA DOS AMIGOS.
Five stars for Bunky's locating in walking distance of my residence; now I can get shucked at Bunky's and happily trundle home after.
Motivated by unselfish dedication to the local Yelp community I stopped in on opening night ... Bunky's was packed to the gills (ha, ha) at both the raw bar and large seating area. We were about two deep at the bar, but the crowd was friendly and boisterous so the waiting time was fun.
Same great place, meaning cold beers on tap with lots of variety, excellent fresh oysters and a nice seafood grill menu.
My brother's birthday is soon so I thought about buying him a "I got shucked at Bunky's" T-shirt. Then I thought, well maybe not as he lives in small town Iowa and the reaction of all his churchgoing-friends, of which there are a plenitude, could be less than positive.
