Considering it's in the name of the place, I expected a better burger. Â
The place we usually go was closed, so we went here and were unfortunately disappointed. Â The appetizers were yummy, but the burgers just weren't uber good, which seeing as it's in the name, is it wrong to have somewhat higher expectations for their burgers? Â Same price, smaller, and not as flavorful. Â I DO like the ambiance and appetizers. Â Nice bar area (which we ate at), good service from bartender.
Best place EVER!!!!!! Best people, great servers and service!!!! Wish I could give more stars. Second time here, same great service, amazing food and awesome drinks, best place in woodland hands down!!!

Never judge a book by its cover. Â Exactly what I thought upon my first visit at Burger Saloon. Â I was on the hunt for a delicious food find before my weekly trip to Costco and yelped Burger Saloon - 4 star rating. Â
Restaurant - I was skeptical at first as it was an older building with an outdated sign. Â (Look for the 'Capital Hotel' Â sign next to it) Â It's a different story walking into the place. Â The small door is deceiving as the restaurant is large. Â So large in fact, that you can throw private parties in another section of the restaurant. Â There is a gated outdoor patio as well. Â I like the oak walls and cozy atmosphere. Â Â Â
Ordered: Â Sophisticate Burger and Roasted garlic fries with Bleu cheese
Roasted garlic fries with bleu cheese - Yup, this place raised the bar for garlic fries. Â No joke, I could have eaten the entire large order myself. Â It tasted like the fries were coated in parmesan cheese. Â I could literally eat the roasted garlic cloves by itself - tasted sweet not bitter! Â The Bleu cheese just adds another level of deliciousness. Â Great combination and highly recommended to order. Â It's $6.50 for a large order. Â Â Â Â Â
Sophisticate Burger - I had to order this as soon as I saw 'brie' in the description. Â The burger had baby spinach, oven roasted tomatoes and brie on brioche bread. Â Thought it was odd that the lettuce, regular tomato, red onion and pickle was on the side. Â For me, the oven roasted tomatoes threw the burger off. Â The size of the burger is pretty small. Â Â
Side note: Â Your choice of bread includes sourdough, brioche, wheat or lettuce wrap. Â Meat selections range from beef, chicken or portabella mushroom. Â Exotic meat like bison, changes daily at market price and they also have crab!
Service: Â Fantastic! Â Our server was super friendly, prompt with our orders and constantly refilled our drinks. Â Sweet. Â I was impressed how well the staff worked together and consistently checked in with our table. Â Granted, it wasn't that busy, but it was nice that we were acknowledged. Â Â Â Â Â Â
Kid friendly - I love how they have to-go plastic cups for the kids. Â Crayons and fun puzzles are also available. Â They do not have a kids menu, but there are finger foods to choose from. Â There are no changing stations in the restrooms and they have high chairs. Â Â
Sad face - I noticed we did not have any silverware on our table. Â Although I didn't need it, it would have been nice to have available. Â
Misc - Street parking. Â The restrooms are surprisingly fancy and clean. Â Â
Would I come back? Â Yes, the fries are worth the drive.
This place is awesome!! Â Located in the small town of Woodland, our friends from Davis highly recommended this spot so we decided to stop by on our way home from Tahoe. Â My wife ordered the Humongous Fungus w/ onion strings, my boys split the Classic Cheeseburger and I got the Bacon Bacon with sweet potato fries. Â All burgers were cooked to perfection, considering I take mine medium rare and the family prefers their meat well done. Â The crispy onions had a nice "kick" and the sweet potato fries with garlic parmesan sauce made the perfect combination. Â Not only was the food very tasty, the staff was ultra friendly and showed great patience with my rambunctious kids. Â We'll definitely be back...
Review Source:I am making a concerted effort to NOT write reviews using the curve system. For example, I am trying not to give a mediocre place an extra star just because its good for its small town location or whatever. I have been to Burger Saloon several times and based on my experiences, it falls solidly into the mediocre category. The food ranges between really lackluster (the salads) and pretty decent (the burgers). Although their specialty burger creations are flavorful, I found them small for the price, and what is with the no substitutions thing?? That's a pretty lame rule if you ask me. There is absolutely nothing special about the fries - AND they don't even come with a burger. Something about that just rubs me the wrong way. The ambience is ok, except for the poor acoustics which makes for a loud dining experience. And I'm pretty sure they are hiring inexperienced high school students, because the service is crappy. The first time we ate there they gave our check to the table next to us, then took about 30 minutes figuring out what happened. When they finally resolved the problem, they didn't even throw us a free dessert or anything to make up for the inconvenience, which I found unprofessional. Other times we've eaten there service has just been slow.. Its a relatively new place, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt that they can hopefully work out some of the kinks as time goes on. We'll probably still end up there occasionally simply because it is walking distance from our house and its one of the best of few options on Main street. Unless laziness (and my desire to be green) prevails, I'll make the trip to Davis for Burgers & Brew every time.
Review Source:Love this place! The owners, who hang around the bar, and usually bar tend as well, are awesome, and I always get great service!!!
The burgers are the 2nd best burger I have ever eaten (2nd to Dad's Kitchen). Better than B&B, 5 Guys, all of them.
I usually get the black and bleu, but I've had their jalepeno chicken, and a bunch others.
Really, the food is what really makes it worth while!
The Burger Saloon is a fantastic establishment. First of all, the service is very good. I once came here with my co-workers, a party of 20 or more, and they gladly took us in and put many tables together. I understand that a party that huge is very difficult to accommodate, so thank you Burger Saloon for that.
I like the concept for building your own burger, and they pull it off well. Building you own anything at most places is a disaster. The individual ingredients do not harmonize and it's a mess. However, Burger Saloon's ingredients all mesh together very well and most combinations are very good. Additionally, their own designed burgers are very tasty, and fairly uncommon, which is refreshing.
They also have a great beer menu. Super important for any burger joint.
All in all, good service, good concept, good food, and good beer, make for a 5 star review :) I will certainly be revisiting this place.
I can sum this review up in four words. Â I will write more if you are interested but if you like things to the point you can stop right here those four words are the best burger ever.
The set up is fairly simple. Â You pick your "meat" (Burger, chicken, turkey Burger, Portabella or a rotating "Exotic" meat) you pick your bread and then you can either chose from their predetermined topping combinations or make up your own.
Whether you are building your own masterpiece or trying one of their predetermined creations all available ingredient are fresh and well prepared. Â Burgers are cooked perfectly to order. Always juicy and delicious.
Fries are ordered separately and we normally opt for fries with toppings, Roasted garlic and blue cheese being our favorite. Â I'm not sure what brand of blue cheese they buy bit it is simply the best I have had anywhere.
There are other burger joints in woodland all with varying degrees of success. Â But if you want the perfect burger there is no where else to go anywhere.
I went here for lunch the other day and sat at the bar. The service was very good, all of the staff I spoke with were very friendly and I received my food in no time flat. Â The food it self was pretty good, the burger patty was a little small but was cooked perfectly! Â If i am ever in woodland again for lunch and am craving a burger, I would definitely come back here.
Review Source:I've only had the opportunity to eat here once, for lunch, and I was Impressed.
There's not a lot of good places to eat in Woodland - but I'm already a fan of the Burger Saloon and I'm looking forward to returning in the near future.
They have a very nice menu - they had great specials - and our service was excellent.
I tried the soup de jour: Tomato Bisque (It was delicious!) Really top notch!
For lunch I had the Bacon Bacon Burger - just the regular size, which was perfect for me.... I personally don't like a Huge Burger - but they have options to have a bigger burger.
I liked that they were offering different kinds of meats, like Bison... it was obviously very popular as they ran out before we could order.
All in All!
Two Thumbs Up! Â And for now: Â 4 Stars -- I 'hope' to come back and add to my review for the next adventure into this great new(er) restaurant in Woodland.
Hey you guys! Â Why don't you sign up for a Groupon? Â You want the residents of Woodland to entertain your establishment? Â I know a lot of people in Woodland that have never eaten there - and wouldn't venture in the door - just because it gives the appearance of being a "Bar" -- which granted it is.... but it's also a restaurant -- and there are So Many People that do not know it's a great lunch spot....
I'll be back for more, hopefully in the Not Too Distant Future.
Okay... gotta be honest, this is one of the best burgers that I've had in awhile. Â Unfortunately for me, since I live in Elk Grove, it's difficult to come all the way out too Woodland for a hamburger, but I will be tempted to do so in the future. Â I had the KC Fire Chief burger and an order of garlic fries. Â The burger was out of this world and the garlic fries were incredible. Â The service was awesome too. Â When they came by to refill my soda, but discovered that we were getting ready to leave, they offered me a take out soda for the ride home... is that awesome?!!! Â Love this place!
Review Source:I went to the burger saloon, this is not my first time here. I been here plenty of times, and tried most of their burgers. Today was yelp worthy i tried they SUNRISE burger it was a burger on thick sliced sour dough( their best bred there) Angus patty, black forest ham, and egg with bacon aioli(fancy mayo). It was BOMB, accompanied with a tall glass of their 6 shooter blonde beer which paired nicely. The meal was great.
Review Source:Excellent sweet potato fries and a pretty good grilled artichoke--though a little soggy and not warmed all the way through. I'd love to see a veggie burger--other than a portobella--on the menu. Five stars to our waitress who barely snarled when a co-worker asked that we each get an individual bill for eight people, after the bill was already delivered to the table.
Review Source:I'm happy with the food, but since opening and to this day. They cannot seem to understand the timetable between appetizer/salad and your entree. Every table, every day gets their burger while their eating their salad or appetizer. Its something they really need to look into. Its training, its having experienced waiters, its communication.
Review Source:This is one of the nicer spots to go in Woodland. The burgers are good, though not the best I've had. They tend to overcook the burgers. They have a great variety of not your norm regular old burgers. I like the Maui Wowwie, with grilled pineapple on it. They also have an exotic meat special to choose from. Very cool. My favorite thing to get is the Sweet Chili Wings on the appetizer menu. Great bar, super cold beer.
They are very kid friendly, and my boys love going there. One downside is that when they get  busy, some of the servers make themselves scarce, and it is very difficult to get help when you need it, and you need to ask 3 , 4, 5 times for the same things. Maybe an extra runner or 2 might be a good idea on normal busy times.
All in all, we do like this spot, it just could use some improvements. We do not have very much to choose from here in Woodland that is worth going to. We are happy that TBS came into town.
I'm truly impressed. Such a small town can create and execute such a great restaurant as this. Â
Very exciting looks as soon as you walk in. Friendly greeting. Heavily staffed and very solicitous. I stuck with a basic burger with bacon on Brioche ...named Bacon Bacon. Everything is ala carte so I got a order of fries as well.  Well prepared and presented. We also ordered the Mac N Cheese with bacon. Once again very good.
I usually don't give a "hamburger joint" high marks but this place deserves it. If you get a chance to stop in, you must.
Really good food, but not good enough to overcome subpar service (or I should say sometimes good and sometimes crazy poor). Â For example, on a crowded evening, while waiting for our table with our young children, when told that bar tables are for bar customers and explaining that we have two young children, as opposed to something understanding (or even civil), being told, "if you don't like it, there's the door." (Not kidding, that's what he said). Â Second time here, being told in an EMPTY restaurant that a bar top was for "big parties" when I was alone. Â No need to worry about "big parties" with such a great attitude. Â If you like good food that isn't good enough to overcome being treated rudely, then you should try this place. Â When they get their customer service up, this will be a pretty good place worthy of 3 stars.
Review Source:My husband and I come here all the time. It's nice to have a local place that provides good, consistent food and cold beer. I also really like that they have a decent turkey burger and frequently have bison as their exotic meat since I try to avoid beef.
It's a little loud sometimes but not so loud that you can't hear, and for burgers and beer I don't really expect it to be silent. The staff is friendly and on top of things which is always nice. By now they know us, but we've never had a bad service experience there.
Try the peanut butter and jalapeno burger. Sounds bad, tastes great!
Took my girl and her sister for a Friday night treat and it was nice just getting out of town and going into old Woodland, CA. Â The historic hotel this place took residence in has a relaxed and casual vibe and the place was packed. Â The bar was full and I thought, good for this place. Â Long story short, I split the Avo burger and loved every succulent bite. Â The appetizers were more than generous, and the entire meal was not your run-of-the-mill burger and fries at all. Â The chocolate shake was also huge and we split that as well. Â Oh yeah, it was absolutely made to perfection! Â The bar is awesome - great service too. Â If you like whisky, they have top shelf and a generous selection of beers on tap! Amazing! Highly recommend.
Review Source:So you're my very first review on my very own yelp account and I am pleased to give you 4 stars!
What you got right:
I had your pastrami burger on toasted sourdough and it was delish! Bread was crispy and not soggy, the hamburger was juicy and topped with a good sized portion of (non-fatty) pastrami. I liked that the lettuce, pickle and tomato came on the side in my togo box so I could add veg if I chose not to totally carnivore out. Â I think about that burger everyday when I drive past the Saloon down Main Street on my way home from work. I'll be back soon to have another one.
What you missed:
I'd never eaten at your restaurant before so I asked the person that answered the phone to recommend something for me. Specifically I asked what was the most popular burger. She seemed put out and answered "there are too many" then she got a supervisor on the phone that basically brushed me off to your facebook where I had to dig to find your menu. I found it and called back. I asked the same girl "what is a green bun" which is listed in your menu and she said "I don't know" So my point is you need to work on customer service at first contact. I expect the person answering the phone to know the menu and be friendly and neither of the two people I talked to were and so you lost 1 star.
Overall:
Pretty darn good and I will be back :)
We were in town for our son's baseball tournament...a few of us adults had some time to kill and found this place. Great beer and the burgers were fabulous! Cant wait to go back there some day! We ordered several burgers and cut them into quarters so we could try them all. My favorite is the Avocado/Blue Cheese burger on brioche!
Review Source:I've gone here numerous times with my wife and I always leave feeling good about my decision to eat there. The burgers are wonderful and the fries are even better. I love the location, though parking might be a problem for those that don't live within walking distance. I've even taken guests from out of town to the Burger Saloon and they loved it. Try their chicken wings!
Review Source:Very yummy, Â I went with my husband the other day and we had a great time. The loaded fries are fabulous. Â And I ordered the Samon burger. Â Very unusal in a good way. Â I would definately go back and would recommend it. Â (Not a very kid friendly set up, Â I don't know that I would bring my kids. Â Just a side note for parents. Â Great date place, maybe not family dinner out night.)
Review Source:Best Burger I Have EVER Had!!!!
We had spent Saturday at the Scottish Games at the fairgrounds in Woodland. We were ready for some good food & good drinks! FOUND IT!
Great selection of beer.
Building has it's original wood floors and some of the brick. Great atmosphere. Staff was great! Had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, but the manager made sure we had drinks and was apologetic for the wait. Trust me, it was worth waiting for!!
Fabulous idea on how they have their menu- you have your choice of meat (black angus beef, turkey, chicken, or bison) Then, you have your choice of several buns/bread
Menu selection was outstanding!
Everybody I was with was very happy with their selection. Fries are seperate, but really good. Burger prices were very reasonable.
Service was wonderful ! Food got to us in a very timely manner...
Can't wait to go back.. even though it's an hour and a half drive.
Went there last night with my girlfriend. Second time I've been, she's been 2 or 3 times.
Burgers are great, great beer selection, and their mixed drinks are fantastic. (My girlfriend recommends any of the adult shakes, I'll recommend the Just A 'Rita.)
All the burgers I've had there were great, but if you have a man-sized appetite, you have to try the Heart Stopper. Three large beef patties, pastrami, and a friend egg. I finished the whole thing, but it was brutal. I want to note, though... unlike most gigantic portion type burgers or meals you can get, this thing actually tasted amazing! The fried egg really pulled it all together! I highly recommend this burger. (If you're not someone who wants to pull down over a pound of protein, you can always go with the Mini Heart Stopper.)
Keep doing what you guys are doing!
Ordered a large lunch order for the gang at work..first I must say..they are VERY friendly. Something that is a nice change in customer service challenged Woodland.
The place is really nice to look at, they have done a terrific job with the decor.
BUT....the food was terrible.
All the burgers were bloody raw. I eat my steak medium rare and this was too rare even for me. They are serving frozen Ore-Ida type fries that are 2 clicks below what you can get from McDonalds. The calamari was very greasy and tasteless. Every single person threw their entire lunch into the garbage.
Honestly Five Guys burgers in Natomas runs circles around them at the same price point and the quality is superior. I really hope they can work the kinks out and step up the quality of their offerings.
Again 5 stars for friendliness and overall ambience. 1 star for the food.
LOOOVED this place. Â I can't say enough of it.
The burgers were amazing (I've tried the sophisticate and Avo Bleu). Â The first thing I noticed when I took a bite into the burger: generous amount of the avocado, brie, blue cheese, etc. (which normally would be a very pricey to add these type of ingredients into the burgers) which makes my taste buds excited and giddy from tasting them. Â The patty itself tastes like it's going to melt in your mouth. Â Every bite you take, you can taste the juiciness and freshness of the burgers. Â I could literally taste the perfection of the burger. Â The chef must have put a lot of effort into making these burgers taste the way they do. Â So kudos to you, chef, for making a simple burger into a culinary art form.
As for the drinks, I'm not a huge beer drinker, but they have an impressive list of specialty girly drinks that unique to their restaurant. Â So for those people out there looking for a place for great girly drinks, this is your place. Â
Overall, for the quality of the burgers, they are very reasonably priced. Â I actually even dare say that it's a deal. Â Also, they have an amazing group of staff. Â
p.s. Â I didn't see anyone put a little comment about another unique feature about this place. Â Every week they have a new exotic patty for those adventurers. Â Normally, I am all for trying new things, I am finding it hard to want to try something else when I'm already in love with one on the menu.
I was at the opening yesterday. We enjoyed cocktail and an appetizer. We ordered the calamari. Â First off it came with this spicy sauce then topped with very thin and small calamari. I should have sent it back. But we were hungry and it was eatable. Hopefully the next time we do try this place the burgers will be better.
Review Source:Great Burgers! Â Great Beer! Â This place is awesome.
The Burger Saloon is a much better version of the old Capitol Saloon. Â While the menu promises a range of great burger combinations, the chicken wings and salads are also first rate. Â The place has only been open a couple days, but they have attentive service in an upgraded saloon space. Â Great place for lunch and drinks after work.
