Stopped here on the way back from Watkins Glen per positive yelp reviews. Very cute, friendly place full of locals and character. Grilled cheese sandwich was yummy, especially because of the fresh baked bread. Coffee was strong and bottomless and eggs cooked perfectly also. However, we ordered a cup of soup and were disappointed to see it just come out of a can and then microwaved.
Review Source:Thank god for Yelp! Because it's the only way we would have found Butterfield's! Â Just fantastic in every way. Middle of no where Freshly prepared food with excellent quick service. Love the fact they serve Heritage chicken and local farm fresh dishes. A very pleasant stop on our way back from Finger Lakes. Loved the town too!
Review Source:This is a tiny place in Deposit, NY. Â I don't know how they decided to open here, but so glad they did. Â It has perhaps 8 tables inside and another 6 on the lovely outside patio. Â Their menu is locally sourced for the most part and changes as the seasons change. Â Everything is made fresh there, including the baked goods.
The owners are there everyday they are open doing the work in both the front and the kitchen. Â
The food I have had is great and the food others have looks terrific. Â I have never heard anything bad here, except, the wait can get long if they get crowded. Â They will tell you the wait may be longer than usual, and they wont be upset if you cant wait. Â this is most likely to occur on National Holidays.
If you are in the area looking for a breakfast or lunch this place is worth a visit, drive by Wendy's if coming off Route 17/future 86 and come here. Â Parking on the street, always seems to be available.
And it is dog friendly on the patio.
Thank goodness for Butterfield's! Â We have been regulars since the Cafe opened as we spend time at our second home in Deposit. Â George and the crew have added flavor and flair while maintaining an ambiance reflective of the local area. Â The decor is country yet sophisticated. Â We have experienced just about everything; breakfast, lunch, dinner and George and even some take out lunches for our floats down the river. Â We always make sure we bring our guests. Â Everything is good but a real standout is the french toast, my wife's absolute favorite. Â The coffee is also the best in the area. Â Thanks guys for being here!
Review Source:What a little gem in the middle of nowhere. Â We were on our way to Seneca Lake and stopped in for lunch. Â The seating on the back porch was charming. Â The waiter was really nice and funny. Â I had the Roadhouse salad and my girlfriend had the chicken salad sandwich. Â The chicken tasted fresh(!) off the bone. Â Both were YUMMY! Â We also had fresh squeezed lemonade with fresh strawberries floating in the drinks. Â We liked it so much we decided to stop back on the way back down to Westchester. Â Great stop on the way upstate, highly recommend!
Review Source:Food---Atmosphere---Music----Staff/Owner******ÂEXCELLENT. The best chicken and biscuits ever! Very thoughtfully created restaurant with much charm. Highly recommended to those seeking home cooked food but only better. The place has a vibrant  pulse and can stand its ground to NYC food. Highly recommended!
Review Source:I am completely in love with Butterfield's Cafe! We spend a lot of time upstate and Butterfield's is the best place we've found, for any meal, for a quick coffee and snack, or just a bit of ambience. Everything is delicious and lovely here. The french toast is insane and I have tried to order lots of other things but always wind up changing my order to have more french toast (easily the best french toast I've ever had!). Eat here!!
Review Source:We were looking for a place eat this morning. Since it was after Labor day it was tough  finding a place. We were lucky to have remembered passing Butterfields the day before. This place is a little Gem that you have to try before it inevitably gets too crowded. All the food is made to order with fresh ingredients. We had eggs, home fries and bacon and eggs ,homefries and sausage. It was great tasting and just the right portion. The staff is very friendly and helpful.Unfortunately it was the end of our weekend and so we'll have to wait a few weeks before we get to try their lunch but, if it's anything like the breakfast I'm sure we'll be happy.
Review Source:This is a great stop. The food was fresh and delicious, the service was friendly and attentive, the cafe is clean and bright, and it's close off rte 17. Â We are on a road trip with three kids under ten and were happy they were eating healthy soup, fruit, and omlettes instead of fried fake food!
Review Source:Amazing find! I was avoiding the interstate and cutting off Binghamton. Decided to stop for a bite, thinking that I might find a pretty standard deli sandwich in a little shop that had a small sign outside that just said "Cafe Open". Almost missed it, but SO glad I didn't. They have organic, local foods. Everything is handmade on the spot. I had chicken salad wrap with grapes and walnuts, pepper slaw and cappuccino. The chicken salad was some of the best I've ever had and the pepper slaw was different and very good.
The homemade baked goods looked so yummy that I ended up taking a sticky bun and zucchini bread to go. I almost didn't make it out without a piece of the fresh blueberry pie and now I wish I hadn't!
There's no Starbucks around but this is even better if you need coffee while driving through through this intensely rural region. I much prefer independent shops.Great place to stop "in the middle of nowhere" ... or even go out of your way for!
Wow what a surprise this place turned out to be! Â We were en route to Syracuse and stopped off for lunch. Â The food was wonderful. Â The place doesn't look like much from the outside but is charming inside. Â I had the sportsmen's breakfast. Â A huge plate with sausage, biscuits and gravy, home fries, and the freshest eggs I have ever had. Â My husband had the brats which came with a huge green salad and an enormous portion of homemade macaroni salad. Â We regretted we didn't have room for the delicious looking baked goods. Â This is now our go to stop when we travel Rt 17. Â Don't miss it!
Review Source:This place saved my neck after I drove out of Binghamton without feeding my wife a proper lunch (I had eaten later than she and convinced her we'd find a quaint country diner on the way home).  Though they weren't on the menu, they did have gluten free pancakes.  Under a little real maple syrup and butter, they turned out to be  some of the best I've had.  My wife had a delicious chicken brat, and she was thrilled with the pasta salad side.  Very charming decor, clean, friendly staff.
Review Source:As a relatively new addition to the quiet town of Deposit, George has outdone himself with this cozy and very country chic eatery. Â
I went with the #1 favourite, biscuits-gravy-chicken sausage and an egg while my wife went with one of the day's specials, the zucchini omelet, both delicious!
With fresh food and daily specials the menu is simple but flavourful. Â George also handles the cooking and Shirley provides warm and attentive service.
My wife also raved about the egg salad sandwich she had eaten the day before when she discovered Butterfields.
We will make this a regular stop when we are passing through Deposit and anyone driving I-86 (Hwy 17) should too.
A real find off Rte 17! Â My daughter and i were on a long road long road trip from Fredonia, NY back to NYC after visiting SUNY when we ventured off the highway looking for dinner, we drove past the Wendy's and found Butterfields. Â Located in a converted building that's now a cafe it has lot's of kitsch and books on the shelves and trivial pursuit cards on the tables. More of a breakfast and lunch cafe but they had a limited chalkboard menu for dinner. Â I had the meatloaf which was yummy and my daughter had the chicken dumplings which were likewise very tasty. Â Dessert's looked good (local pies and ice cream) but we were both to full to try any. Â Only drawback they only take cash.
