I love eating at Cabin Fever. Â I usually come for lunch but I have had supper here a few times. Â I usually get the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and I take off the bacon and give it to whoever I am eating out with. Â Their sandwiches are so good though and I come here whenever I can talk someone into going with me. Â I have had many of their appetizers and they were all good. Â The ones that I have tried were: Â cheese balls, mozzarella sticks, fried breaded pickle spears, and fried mushrooms. Â They are all awesome. Â Their drinks there are very reasonable prices too even for top shelf liquors. Â They have drink specials everyday. Â The place is really easy to find. Â It is up the street from the McDonalds that is by I-80 between there and that new Holiday Inn Express off of Rt. 251. Â But go and try it if you want some good food and good drinks. Â I would eat here everyday if could afford it and also if I wanted to die early from clogged arteries from eating too much fried food. Â They offer stuff grilled there but it is so much better fried and I try to limit fried food to once a week or less. Â I highly recommend the place to everyone though.
Review Source:great local spot for a beer and typical bar food. Â we ended up here because of convenience, but it was just what we needed after a day hiking at starved rock. Â i must admit i was a little skeptical first from the name and second for the location but they proved me wrong. Â the servers were pleasant, the food was above average. Â warning the hot sauce on the wings is REALLY HOT, like "suicide" level., appropriate portion sizes and prices. Â check it out for a nice casual spot.
Review Source:Both the food and the service were good - there was nothing extra special about either. Â This is your basic bar food -Our party had a variety of dishes - fried fish, family style chicken (which is fried chicken served with speghtti and tortellini in meat sauce), sirloin steak. Â Everyone said their food was good. Â I had the hot wings - they were also good and the hot sauce was hot. The french fries were almost battered and they were also very good. Â The food is very reasonably priced. Â Overall nothing exceptional but I would go back again.
Review Source:Stopped in for dinner and both had the 1/4 fried chicken that was wonderful - the skin was removed and the batter was light. Â The meat wasn't dry but moist even without the skin. Â Had the pasta side dish instead of fries and veggie. Â The fries did look good. Â The sirloin special was also popular. Â Will head back on a Monday for an all-day $1.50 tacos and $1.00 draft special. Â Very nice local place but off the beaten path so you need to look real hard for it.
Review Source:Grew up in the Illinois Valley area, moved away, but migrate back semi-annually to visit family. Â When I do, I'm ALWAYS game to try new places that have cropped up since I last visited, and new places aren't always easy to find! Â
So, I was excited to hear from my dear ol' mom that there was a new-ish place along the section of 251 that in my childhood memories is nothing but cornfields. Fairly unassuming building with a faux-log facade, plenty of parking. Â When you get inside, it's spacious and charming. Â A northwoods motif, lots of trophies and outdoorsy tchotchkes hung about...also a sweet freestanding fireplace that I bet makes things really cozy in the cold months. Â
The servers were sweet, the food was really tasty and reasonably priced. Â I had a fried pork tenderloin sandwich that tasted hand-breaded, not like a pre-formed, frozen patty. Â Large, with a garlicky, crunchy breading, generous portions, and for dessert, yummy bananas foster bites with caramel sauce and whipped cream. Â I will definitely put this place on my must-visit places to get a quality sandwich when I'm visiting home. Â Looks like a fun place to grab a beer, as well, with a big, circular bar and high-top tables outside the dining area.
We went for lunch and had the italian beef sandwich and pork tenderloin. Â Would try either again. Â Portions were generous. Someone at the table next to us had an order of onion rings and I won't be able to stop thinking about them until I go back to try them. Â Service was very attentive, quick and friendly. Â They did a nice job decorating the place although feel some side panels on the windows would cozy up the atmosphere. Â Nice they had a separate eating area away from the bar so you could take your family. Â Nice and clean.
