Cafe Blackadder.
This is the quintessential quaint cafe that every town needs, and Warrensburg should be proud to be the home of it. This little cafe is the haven for a good splash of culture and quality in a town with not much culture and quality. I really appreciate and admire the audacity of this establishment to pursue and ultimately succeed here. The food is absolutely delicious, and although I haven't been able to peruse the entire menu, what I've had tells me I won't be disappointed with what I haven't tried. Blackadder has it all, complete with friendly people, a clean, comforting environment, a piano, great food, and the ability of an establishment to keep you coming back for more.
Cafe Blackadder gets 5 stars for being the best possible version of it's concept: Â quaint, heavy on whimsy, local, natural, delicious.
Though the name implies Wiccan goods dealer, the reality is much more tasty.
Sandwiches look as if they were prepared by post-Yoga session foodies---because they probably were. Â But don't fault them for that. Â There are few places within an hour's drive that serve food of this quality for lunch.
You may notice that when you get the bill but remember. Â Food was not processed and, therefore, some of your bill likely helped an area farmer in this drought.
Not only will you feel morally superior knowing that you micro-subsidized a family farm, your body will thank you for treating it, for once, like it should be.
Great menu items but always ask about the special. Â I've never been steered wrongly.
Cafe Blackadder is now open on Saturdays! Woohoo! I can now eat great food on the weekends- and it's even better because I can bring visiting family & friends.
And as far as I know there is now live baby grand piano music Thursday though Saturday during lunch- always a bonus to the communal ambiance.
I've lived in Warrensburg all of my life and I have never eaten here until today. I think it's because I never go through the downtown area when I'm on lunch, so I never see it. Today, though, as I was driving down Holden, I glance over and see "OPEN" in the window. And suddenly, I was interested.
Cafe Blackadder is what every person who comes to a small town hopes to find- a small, quaint, kitschy restaurant serving good food- a secret amongst the residents. The decor is a mod podge of antique store tables and chairs, the walls unfinished- or maybe they are finished? I couldn't tell. Colorful paintings lined the walls as we entered and sat at the first 50s style kitchen table we saw.
We ordered iced teas, which of course were fabulous- Cafe Blackadder was formerly The Teehaus. I was impressed by the menu- a little bit foodie, very much organic and home grown, and definitely affordable. I ordered the soup of the day, which was a peppered beef stew, and the creamy roast beef club- roast beef, swiss, lettuce, tomato, onion and bacon cream cheese on a soft onion roll. My boyfriend ordered the "Ham and Jam"- a ham sandwich with "onion marmalade" that he swears by. I was skeptical...
My soup was great; spicy tomatoes and chunks of potato in a warm broth with tender beef. My sandwich was amazing- the smoky cream cheese complemented the shaved roast beef and onion roll perfectly.
But I feel that the real winner here was the Ham and Jam- which I took one bite of and fell in love. The "marmalade" was a smoky version of an onion sauce, and it went with the ham in a very strong, yet delicate way. I'll definitely order it again.
