We ate upstairs and had the ranch hand burger, shepherds pie and Philly cheese steak respectively and they were bomb !!!!! We all tasted each other's food and agreed it was top notch. When we saw the gorgeous, unpretentiously elegant setting and linen table cloths, we thought it would be pricey but it was not at all. Â Max was our server and he was brilliant, not intrusively chatty, just pleasant and always there when you needed something.
I'll never eat anywhere else when we do our annual pilgrimage to Cambria
It took forever for them to get us our food. We ordered and it was a good 45 minutes before we received our food. Our waitress kept making excuses for it instead of just apologizing for the inconvenience. Â My dish was supposed to be a quarter rack of ribs and a quarter chicken, but ended up being 3 ribs and a piece of chicken with some vegetables and 15 sweet potato fries. It was tasty, but not worth $24. My mother's shrimp fettuccine was tasty, but a little small for $21. Overall, the food was tasty, but the service was overwhelmingly awful. I would not go back again.
Review Source:We were early for our dinner reservations at Robin's, so we walked around downtown & was getting thirsty. Â Came across Cambria Pub, didn't think much initially, but was nicely surprised. Â Great place to wet your whistle. Â They make a stiff Martini & I mean stiff, after first one, we needed food to make sure we can hold down the second round of drinks. Â We ordered the sweet potatoes fries which came with 4 dipping sauces. Â Of which the Arugula was our favorite. Â These were the best sweet fries we've had, and we've had our share. Â Wherever we go, if it's offered, we will order it. Â Nice portions. Â Crispy on the outside & tender on the inside.
Review Source:This review is for the pub downstairs and not the steakhouse upstairs. Ate here for lunch with a friend on a slow weekday. While service was ok, the food was just meh. We both ordered the french dip with fries, and it was just average. Portion size was also smaller than I expected. I was still hungry after our meal. The upside is the food is relatively inexpensive. Even for pub food I would've expected more.
Review Source:The four of us stopped in Cambria while we were staying in San Simeon to tour the Hearst Castle. It was a late afternoon so the place was not busy. We had a patty melt that was on marble rye bread. And a portabello mushroom sandwich. Â The margaritas were freakin' AWESOME! Â Great service, Great food! Â If your hitting the central coast of Cali you have to stop in to the Cambria Pub and Steakhouse. The town of Cambria is really cool too!
Review Source:This place deserves 0 stars. What a huge disappointment?
Service was nonexistent. He was actually hiding in the back. There were only 4 tables seated on a Friday night, that should have been a sign. The food was awful. First up the medium filet arrived raw. Still cold on the inside. But unfortunately the server was hiding so it took a long time just to get the steak returned and then it came back dry and gross. Nobody seemed to care.
At this point I just want to leave.......never ever go here, too many places in Cambria will appreciate your business.,
One star for our server who was nice.
Food was terrible. Â I actually thought I might get sick from whatever the caesar salad dressing was. Â We had to send the chicken back because it was awful (smoky and dry) and the twice baked potato looked like it had been under the heat lamp for a day. Â The manager came out to ask us about it and wasn't apologetic, like I would've expected. Â She defended the food and we urged her to try it. Â The girl at our hotel recommended this place because we could bring our dog. She made a mistake and so did we. Â Don't go here for anything more than a drink.
Four of us stopped by for dinner on a Sunday night. Started to sit downstairs but, in keeping with the "sports bar" atmosphere, it was very noisy. We moved upstairs where it was much quieter and we could have a nice conversation. The service was friendly and adequately presented. The food on the other hand was just okay. Among the 4 of us, we had a fried artichoke appetizer, a small bowl of chili, "Mac'n Cheese","Shepherd's Pie", "Portobella Burger" and a "Pub Burger" both with sweet potato fries, and a "Patty Melt" with regular french fries. Everything arrived hot and as ordered, and everything, save the French fries which looked like leftovers, tasted okay. Not bad, not great, just okay! Maybe the steaks at $22.00 to $40.00 are better, but based on this night's food, Â I'd hesitate to take a chance. I understand this restaurant has not been open long, so hopefully the food will improve. I'd give it another try in the future!
Review Source:Had really high hopes from this restaurant and the ambiance is very nice upstairs but the quality of food is ..............? Â They served us old shrimp which was slimey and just beginning to smell, the ceasars salad was really dead and wilted, my 20 ounce signature rib eye was way overcooked and burnt. Â I have a gut feeling that when i sent back my shrimp cocktail it was payback on my steak which by the way i sent back because it was not cooked medium rare. Â We did get another harris ranch steak cooked again which was a bit too rare but had no flavor or seasonings on it. Â Granted this rib eye sells for $40.00 and one would expect an outstanding bad ass steak. Â This was this past wednesday and they were really busy downstairs and only had two cooks. Â This steakhouse is by no means a Flemings or Ruth Chris or Mortons. Â For a really good meal go to the Moonstone Beach Grill.
Review Source:Great food but really bad service. Perhaps it was just chance that we got this horrible waiter: Noah. Forgot our drinks, didn't write the order down and forgot our appetizers, when we pointed out that we ordered a shrimp cocktail he responded that he couldn't keep our food warm and he just didn't hear us. Excellent. Then he spent the rest of our meal ignoring us. We complained but the manager really seemed unfazed by it. And people think New Yorkers are rude... Also, no surprise the douche waiter's name is Noah.
Review Source:My husband and I drove to Cambria for the day to walk our dog (we live in Paso) and stopped in at the Cambria Pub and Steakhouse for a late lunch. Â We sat downstairs and the full bar had everything we could have asked for. Â My vodka collins (a drink often times not made well) was delicious! Â I had the Ranch Hand Burger and it was probably the best burger I have had. Â It was HUGE and I took some home (the dog in the car was very pleased to get a small piece). Â We will definitely be back!
Review Source:Our first meal on our trip along the coast. We were staying in San Simeon, but made the easy drive back to Cambria, as there was nothing in San Simeon that attracted us. I found this little place via Yelp, so thank you. We arrived on a Monday evening around 5. Being early March and more of a touristy town, the downstairs pub was empty. I did, though, notice a few small groups enter and go upstairs to the steakhouse, and by the time we left, there were a couple tables of people in the pub. Service was friendly and quick. I had the Ranch Hand Cheddar Burger with sweet potato fries. I LOVE sweet potato fries and they were good, but nothing special. The burger, though, was great! Big, meaty, messy yumminess. The only thing I was disappointed with was that the menu said it had onion strings, but instead, it actually had a thicker onion ring. The thick slice of bacon on it kinda made up for that, though. Husband had the Cambrian Burger, which he thought was delicious. Our two burgers, a soda and a pint of Blue Moon was $31 before tip. Not bad considering the looks of the menus of other restaurants in the area! Also, they had a few big tvs playing various sports shows/games.
Review Source:This restaurant was second choice for my dining companion, who'd intended to take us to a nice restaurant that was all booked up with reservations for a 3-day weekend. Â I had actually assumed he'd prefer to go to this pub -- it being more to his taste -- so I was happy when we ended up here.
Our server, Max, knew his beers but seemed less experienced (nervous) with serving food, but he offered excellent service and seemed to anticipate certain details of my preferences that I hadn't even stated. Â He'll do fine. Â Until other diners joined us at their own tables in the room upstairs, it was very, very quiet and mellow, like my dining companion and I prefer. Â Downstairs had the more outgoing pub atmosphere that sends many people to pubs.
I was shocked by the food. Â I'd ordered a Caesar salad with chicken and not only was the portion large, but the meat was not all breast meat. Â Some of the cuts had more fat, like I prefer if I'm going to bother to eat meat. Â The dressing was a Hollandaise sauce, not a Caesar salad dressing, and it actually worked. Â It was a nicely-executed Hollandaise sauce and if you know your sauces, it's basically a traditional Caesar salad dressing without the pungent bite of garlic and anchovies which topped thin slices of crispy biscuits (think zwieback toast, but no that dark in color). Â This is perfect for people that like a good Caesar salad but don't like the funk of a traditional sauce and for people that like the funk and don't mind having it delivered un-traditionally.
My dining companion ordered the baby back ribs with French fries. Â His ribs were melt-in-your mouth good with that lovely grilled/charred taste, nicely-portioned, and the steamed vegetables were good, too. Â He liked the beer he ordered (which I don't remember because it's been a few weeks now). Â
I'm a non drinker and the variety of non alcoholic drinks to chose from was wide, much to my surprise. Â
Then came the bill: Â very reasonable. Â We're unlikely to pass through this town again, but if we did, we'd return.
Sometimes, usually when you're travelling, you mistime your food & energy levels and end up tired and cranky with no idea of what to do next. If you're lucky, you'll be near the Cambria Pub & Steakhouse. The service is excellent, the bar stools are comfortable, the beer selection is great and the food is better than your usual bar menu. It was the perfect place for late afternoon snacking and relaxation.
Review Source:Stopped for lunch (second time) and glad I did. Â 2nd time was much better than the first. Â Lucy Moreno, the waitress that waited on my table is the best on the Central Coast. Â The owners need to give her a raise....seriously. Â I ordered the hamburger and it was juicy, large and delicious. Â Fries were good too! Â Ordered a "Dude" coffee drink afterwards and it was OUTSTANDING. Â I will definitely be back. Â Give it a try.
Review Source:I've been meaning to give this place a try ever since they opened several months ago, and today we had the chance to check it out. Â We were all very happy with both the food and the service. Â While it's primarily a steak and hamburger place, they also have a good selection of other items. Â I had the Ranch Hand Cheddar Burger, which was excellent and made for a very filling meal. Â My wife had the mahi mahi, and said it was some of the best she's ever had. Â Their steaks and hamburgers are all made with Harris Ranch Beef. Â The hamburgers are very reasonably priced and are a great value. Â We thought the steaks seemed overpriced - until we saw one. Â You definitely get a *lot* of steak for your money, and I'd recommend bringing a healthy appetite if you want to finish eating one. Â Like any good pub, they feature traditional pub entrees such as shepherd's pie, as well as Guinness on tap. Â Highly recommended, especially if you're really hungry!
Review Source:We were really happy to find this place. Â We didn't know anything about it but decided to try it after looking at the menu. Â The best filet I have had in a long time. Â Yummy twice baked potato, good service, strong drinks (good). Â We were very happy that we picked this place and hope they continue to do well.
Review Source:Our party of six was seated quickly on a Friday night. Â Service was prompt as it was pretty quiet, only a couple of other tables had patrons. Â Plenty of choices on the menu; our party had a hot dog, patty melt, portobello mushroom sandwiches, and the shepherd's pie. Â We all enjoyed our meals and would go back again.
Review Source:Had drinks in the downstairs bar area on a Sunday night. Â The bar had a unpretentious fancy-ish sports bar feel. Â The clientele were a clean and nice looking group of people (an important observation considering the dive-y nature of some central coast bars). Â On a sunday night the age group was in the 40-50 year old range. Â But a young buck like myself in her early 30s did not feel out of place. Â They had several nice selections of beer on tap, I had a stella, with 14, 16, and i think 30 oz options. 16 ozs were $5. Â They also had bunch of local paso robles wine options Opolo, Stillwaters, Castoro, J.Lohr all some of my favorites. Â I glanced at some fun mixed drink/shot options and a nice touch was the 4 or 5 coffee cocktails on the menu. Â Would be nice on a cold Cambria winter's eve. Â All the employees welcomed us with a smile and even though they were all new on the job (the place being a new establishment) there didnt seem to be any obvious kinks to work out on the clientele side. I wont comment on the restaurant 'cause we didnt eat, but we plan on it soon, to be contiuned...
Review Source:Ate in the "pub" part downstairs. Happily, the menu is the same as it is in the "steakhouse" part upstairs. I tried the patty melt while my fiance had a steak, so we sampled both types of their foods. The only kink in the night was the fact our food took awhile to come out, but our waiter apologized profusely and gave us a second round of beers to help us sit through the wait. When the food arrived, we were not disappointed in the least. My fiance (who is a Texan) said it was the best steak he has had since being in California. I had the sweet potato fries with my patty melt and both were super good. The vibe in the pub was fun - big TVs to watch football and a nice mix of people. Definitely would return when back in Cambria. The steakhouse options are pricier, but there is a ton of reasonably priced food on the pub menu for those that don't want to spend as much.
Review Source:This is the best thing that has happened to Cambria in years. Â Open only a few weeks, the place already has a following. Â We would recommend CPAS as an upbeat alternative to the numerous restaurants and bars on the central coast. Â The service is friendly and attentive, and the food is good. Â We had the "Tri-Tip" Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich (fresh peppers and provolone cheese) and a Big Bowl of Chili. Â Good stuff. Â Â They offer a full bar with high definition TVs, so you can enjoy your team with your friends. Â The upstairs main dining room is formal - not stuffy - and is decorated with central coast art. Â You will soon need reservations at CPAS, as we think there will soon be a line out the door.
