Within 15 months since opening, this place has built a reputation beyond Cannon Beach for well crafted, creative spirits. We walked in on a Monday afternoon and were greeted warmly by Mike, proprietor of the establishment.
During our tasting of gin, rum and a 100% agave spirit we realized Mike knows his craft and is eager to share his knowledge. He embodies his love of distilling unique spirits in an approachable way.
Surely, he'll go on to do great thing for the burgeoning distillery landscape in the PNW and we wish him all the best.
Don't pass up the opportunity to stop into CBD, talk with Mike, and enjoy some of his amazing gins & rums. Â Really high quality, and unique. Â We were there this past weekend and will definitely visit again when we come back to Cannon Beach. Â I can't wait for his whiskeys to be available. Â If you like really good spirits make it a point to visit.
Hey Mike - hope you can start selling in CO soon!!!!
A "must see" spot in Cannon Beach. Â If you've had your fill of souvenir shops, stop in to CBD and try some of the great spirits up for tasting. Â The owner, Mike, will tell you all about them and how they're made. Â You can even look through the windows into the back where all the magic happens. Â Check it out and buy some great local liquor!
Review Source:A welcome addition to Cannon Beach! The owner/distller Mike Selberg was a friendly knowledgeable host through our tasting of two gins, a rum, and an agave spirit (can't call it Tequila). I love gins and these were delicious and distinct in a full-bodied rich complex style designed for martinis (43% alcohol). I'm not a rum fan but this is NOT anything like commercial rums; instead it's rich, complex and sooooo smooth. The agave spirit was interesting but not to my taste. Sounds like he has a couple of whiskies on the go but unfortunately they won't be ready for a couple of years.
Review Source:How fortunate I feel to have walked by this little distillery in downtown Cannon Beach. A girlfriend and I were in town from Portland/Hood River just wandering around and decided to stop in for a tasting. And I'm glad we did!
For 6 dollars we tried a white rum, two very different gins, and a dark rum. We split one tasting, which was more than enough for us to have several sips of all these craft spirits, but not so much that we stumbled out of there.
I wasn't a fan of the white rum, but I'm not much of a rum drinker so I don't want to say it was a fault the spirit, as it likely just wasn't my taste. I will admit that it went down very smoothly.
Then came the gins -- oh the gins! My friend was hesitant as she claims not to like gin at all, but she was a good sport. And she liked them, she really liked them! (that was my Mikey likes it commercial impression.) They were smooth and complex and really interesting. If you think you don't like gin, it might be that you've just had some bad gin, because there's nothing not to like about these. The second one we tried had less of the juniper on the tongue and more of an interesting cardamon and other-spices-I-can't-remember-now flavour. It was nice on it's own, but I can imagine it could be a great base for a lot of interesting cocktails. The owner said that it was popular with the mixology crowd, and I'm not at all surprised.
And then finally the dark rum. This was unlike any rum *I've* ever tasted. It was rich and smokey and not overly sweet. Almost like a whiskey and I can imagine drinking it over ice just like I like my bourbon.
So, that's the taste, but two other things to note:
The packaging was cute and minimal and the space clean and inviting.
The owner was charming, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Best of luck to him!
I'm going to be sure to ask my local liquor store to get his product in and you should too!
The spirits here are amazing. Â I don't even really care for gin but this is by the far the best I've ever had. Â Mike, the owner and crafter of the spirits was personable, friendly and professional. Â For being so young he is already a master at his craft and you can tell he loves what he does. Â Check this place out when visiting Cannon Beach.
Review Source:My grandfather built a home here decades ago, so I've been coming to Cannon Beach all my life. Â It's changed a tremendous amount. Â Some of these changes have been wonderful, and others . . . well not so much (traffic, and no more Dooger's happy hours!?!) Â
CBD is a great addition to Cannon Beach's high street. Â The small shop's aesthetics are minimal but fitting, and the alcohol we sampled was unique and tasty. Â I highly recommend a stop in, and a bottle of rum or gin. Â The labeling is beautiful and I hear that they'll eventually produce whiskey! Â Oh, and for the non-alcohol inclined, they bottle ginger beer (yum).
I was in Cannon Beach over the summer and saw Mike's place being constructed. I stopped in and talked to him and was intrigued enough to try it when I visited again last month. Mike is very friendly and down-to-earth. I tried two different gins (I unfortunately don't remember which ones). Both were delicious--very clean and pure but full of flavor. I was impressed. If you like juniper, you'll love his gins. I didn't have time to taste other liquors, but I will definitely be back in the summer. This place already seems like a local hang out, as a group of men were laughing and enjoying themselves with Mike as I drank my gin. Cool place. Check it out.
Review Source:My mom and I stopped in here last Saturday afternoon after I discovered this distillery on my Yelp app. It was an awesome, unique place to visit especially in comparison to the many tourist shops in downtown Cannon Beach. For $7, we shared samples of their four liquors: two types of gin and two types of rum. I don't consider myself a huge rum fan but their amber rum was delicious and very reminiscent of whiskey. I'd have definitely purchased a bottle had I known that I'd be checking bags on my return flight to Colorado. Bummer! I also don't consider myself a fan of gin, but both varieties were pretty tasty. I really loved the gin that had a hint of lemongrass. My mom preferred the more traditional tasting gin and took home a bottle. Mike was beyond friendly and knowledgeable. And cute. Yeah, I said it. You should see for yourself! There were savory parmesan crackers out in a dish to snack on between samples, and you could buy their logo (classy/modern logo and labeling) shot glasses, rocks glasses and spirit glasses along with whiskey stones ($20) and craft sodas for your at-home cocktail-making. The shop was small but very cool with chalkboard-covered sliding doors behind the bar and a chunky raw-edge wood bar for us to sit at, with a few stools too. I don't imagine I'll be visiting Cannon Beach without visiting this new and super cool distillery!
Review Source:Had a great time chatting with Mike today! Â There's something so cool about talking with the person who is crafting what you're sipping...back at our hotel now...just cracked open a bottle of Mike's Donlon Shanks Amber Rum...simply mixed into a tonic and a squeeze of lime...excellent!!! Â Can't wait for his bottles to be available in Portland, OR. Â Until then, I'll have to hop in the car and head back to Cannon Beach for more....great work Mike! Â Your entire range is pretty awesome!!
Review Source:Recently opened, The Cannon Beach Distillery is a unique find in the land of micro-breweries and brew pubs that are scattered all over Oregon. Â I like a good beer now and ten, but there are times when a more sophisticated palate cries out for liquid nourishment. Â The owner and distillery master, Mike Selberg is a damn nice lad who has a true passion for his craft and his business. It is refreshing to see someone who just lights up when talking about their job and products. In the land of "coastal apathy" among many business owners who have just burned out, Mike is a bright star with some amazing product ideas.
Gin, rum, vodka and whiskey, including several different variations of each are and will be master crafted at this small distillery located in Cannon Beach. Â I personally can't wait for some of his unique flavour twists that he will be offering soon, such as the lemon grass and cardamon gin!! Â
Stop in for a taste and an education. Â Mike is very eager to share his immense knowledge of his craft. Â He makes a very high quality product and has many awesome ideas "brewing" in his head for some unique spirit flavorful combinations. He uses high quality products (many certified organic for those of you who are into the "green aspects of products").
This is a welcome addition to the coast and I wish Mike nothing but the very best.
