We heard much hype of the, CARWASH CAFE. An to our pleasure, all was true. Their breakfast is over the top. If you're a fan of scrapple as I am, it's great here. Home fries are top notch also.

Had lunch today with my wife and the review is mixed.  We both had daily 'specials'.  Her tomato stuffed with chicken salad was fresh and tasty.  My fish sandwich was so so as the fish was fried a bit too long and the roll was stale.  My cup of she crab soup was tasty but quite thin.  Be sure to ask prices on the specials so you won't be surprised at the register like I was....very expensive for a simple lunch.

I came in here with two friends at 11 AM on a Sunday. Every table was taken except for two and those still had dirty dishes on them. We stood there for about five minutes and were completely ignored by multiple staff members. One actually walked directly past us out the front door without a word. We decided to leave. Terrible service.

Very friendly pleasant ambiance.  Food a bit overpriced but creative and tasty.  Out of state license plates in the parking lot indicates it has a wide geographical range of popularity.

Nice little place for lunch. Stopped on Sunday around 1pm. Place was pretty busy but a table opened on a few min.  There are only about 12 tables and a small 4 seat bar area. I had the oyster po boy and my wife had the grilled chicken breast sandwich. Both were really good. The kitchen is open and you can see everything being made. The owner was making salad right there. Everything was freshly cut. It is a little pricey but I would rather spend my money there than Mc D's or another chain.

We eat here at least once a week. Specials are always changing and fun. Delicious food and the servers are so friendly. We love the Car Wash Cafe.

I've eaten here a few times, but I'm finally getting around to reviewing it.  I really wanted to give this place five stars as I love eating here, but you've got to be almost perfect to get five stars out of me.

Thing that keeps it four star to me - too much Sysco, not enough local.  One example -  packaged sweet potato fries are good, but made on the premises is better.  No restaurant can do everything, and I understand that, especially one whose kitchen is so tiny, but I suspect my entire lunch this time came off the truck.  To be perfectly fair, I don't expect them to corn their own beef or make their own sauerkraut, and maybe I'm being too picky or ordering the wrong things.

I suspect if I asked the waitress what was made fresh there and what came in a truck she'd tell me, and then I could order the original cuisine and maybe give it the five stars I want to give it.  Maybe next time!

An earlier reviewer mentioned salad out of a bag.  I saw the bag, but the salad we got was fresh and crisp.  Another Sysco (or similar company) product that could be done fresh.

Wait staff is always attentive and accurate.  Food is prepared to order and it's hot and wonderful.  For all my earlier complaining, the sweet potato fries are good, as is the Reuben.  Prices represent their pride in their food without being extravagant, in other words, it's a little high for the area, but worth it.  You get to see the kitchen, which is always a bonus for me - it's fun to watch them shape the crab cakes before frying them.

Come early or be patient.  It's a small dining area and it fills up fast.  Forgot to ask about the two mismatched tables - I wonder if there's a story there.  Also, if you're not a fan of ice, mention that when ordering drinks.  They pack the glasses full of ice since the drinks are not refrigerated.

I will eat here again and again, every time I'm visiting my folks in the area.

Delicious food, friendly service. They have one of the best sausage gravy over biscuits I've ever had...

Breakfast Sunday 9 Sept.  Excellent as always.  We beat the crowd as it got crazy busy about half an hour after we arrived (10 am).  Our favorite place for breakfast when in this area.

The Car Wash Cafe is a small little place that you would easily pass by if you didn't know it was there. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but inside it was very nice with about 10-12 tables. Food was delicious! We both had chicken salad sandwiches with a side of potato salad, which was honestly probably some of the best potato salad I've ever had, and I'm originally from New York! I would definitely hit this place up again when I am back in town, and the prices are very reasonable.

The Car Wash Cafe is a breakfast and lunch stop located in an old Shell station on the downtown strip of Kilmarnock. You can see how popular the place is by the parking, it overflows onto the grass behind the lot and is regularly marked by a line of people waiting outside trying to be seated!

If they have one item that stands out, it's the she crab soup. I've had breakfast and  lunch here, and it's always good food. The service can take a bit of time when they are busy, but it's worth the wait. Huevos Rancheros is my breakfast favorite. The lunches are creative and fresh.

Well worth the stop...nothing bad about this place other than the word is getting out and its getting busy :)

For sure to become an iconic restaurant for this part of VA...

I love this place!  They have outstanding food-their breakfast is not to be missed.  Lunch is also very very good.  The waitstaff is super great and will make the meal even better.  They have daily specials and these are often creative but not over the top.  The open kitchen allows you to see things in action.  You will leave delightfully stuffed and happy.
And like the previous reviewer mentioned the Car Wash is literally a car wash and you might pass it up if you are not careful.

This is one of those places you would never find unless you are in the know. Driving by it just looks like a gas station and car wash. The gas station is no longer in business but I do think the owners run the car wash. The dining area is set up in the space that was once the convenience store with an open kitchen. It is all very clean with great service and you can watch as your food is prepared. The Car Wash Cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch. You will find great items on either menu but I usually go for breakfast.  I have had breakfast here easily a couple of dozen times and it is the best you can find for miles around. A must have are the grits they are transcendent but you cannot do wrong with anything on the menu. From the locally sourced blueberries for the blueberry pancakes to the freshly made crab cakes this place is a winner!
