This has been Nancy's for about 4 years now. Â It's just a quiet, hometown restaurant where people know each other. Â No one seemed to mind that I was there, even though I'm not from Hagerstown. Â Don't mind that it isn't fancy because they're spending the time on the food. Â You could find some charm in the tablecloths. Â They're the same kind we used to take on picnics. Â I want to call them oil cloth, but they're sort of plastic. Â They're easy to wipe away the stains and dirt.
Today, they had a Salmon patty and fried potatoes for $5.50, so I thought I'd try that. Â I can't remember having a salmon patty since I was 12, especially since I like fish uncooked mostly.
The salmon patty was pretty much just like mum used to make, and thankfully, the fried potatoes were fried, not cold and soggy. Â My iced tea was okay, so the whole meal turned out pretty well.
Service was different. Â There was no sign to seat yourself but that's what they wanted you to do. Â I didn't ask for a drink refill and they didn't volunteer one. Â When they asked if things were okay, I didn't need a refill, of course.
It was quiet and very homey and the people who were regulars got the royal treatment. Â Given that there are only a few options in Hagerstown, Nancy's is a good place to be.
