We went there for our 10th anniversary. I ordered the tuna  which came overcooked ( this is a crime for a restaurant that calls itself a seafood place). My hubby asked for the rack of lamb (median well - he hates raw meat) the lamb came raw! The waiter was very nice and serve the desert with a "happy anniversary" message, but overall i was very disappointed .
Review Source:This place is a hit or miss. Â If you are able, I highly suggest going in a group of 3 or 4 and give the prefix menu. Â Order the prime rib, honest to god one of the BEST things I have EVER put in my mouth. Â
The edges are charred and the meat in the center is slowly cooked by the rendering fat. Â Every bite was different complex and yet unerringly beefy. Â
I pleasantly surprised by the professionalism of the young wait-staff, they have been very well-trained.
The second time I went we were not lucky. Â The food was subpar.
I went here for a celebratory work lunch with 2 coworkers. They had a set meal for $12.95 that came with clam chowder or salad and a choice of entree from the list. I was tempted to get the fish and chips but our friendly waiter JR told us they also had lobster roll or lobster casserole. In the spirit of approaching  summer I got the lobster roll and pecan-goat-cheese salad.
They have excellent fresh sliced bread and whipped butter to snack on while we waited. I was a little disappointed at the presentation of the lobster roll since I would think they would use a nice artesian bread to carry the lobster meat in. The bread they choose was a greasy lookinh hot dog bun. In terms of taste, it was all good-decadent-butter and bread and generous lobster meat. The salad that came before was delicious- I live the cartelized pea cans with the acidity of the dressing and savory lusciousness of the goat cheese. At the end we had delightful cappuccinos for dessert. I also tasted the carrot cake which was way too big for one person.
I went here for their Thanksgiving Buffet. The food was all very low quality, but on top of it all of the side dishes were lukewarm to cold. They had these garage-style dome servers for the buffet food, and the doors were all left open the whole time! The point of the doors is to keep the heat in. The meats were warm because they were under heat lamps at the carving station. I think the fish was a bit warmer because of turnover, but I can't speak to it personally because I don't eat it.
They had plenty of servers, but they were concerned about pushing the wine and coffee, which were not included in the buffet.
My wife and I went here on Wednesday, 2/13/13, for an early Valentine's Day dinner. We didn't have a reservation so we had to sit at the bar. No biggie, but if you want something separate from the bar area then make sure you make a reservation. We ordered  the fried mozzarella with lemon caper sauce fir an appetizer, I had a  Caesar's salad and baked stuff shrimp. My with had a granola salad with a cranberry vinaigrette. The fried mozzarella was really good and the lemon caper sauce was a nice and different change from a marinara sauce. My salad was good as was my wife's salad. The cranberry vinaigrette was delicious.  The baked stuff shrimp was also very good. The shrimp were large and the Ritz cracker stuffing was tasty. The service throughout was very good. It was pricey, with wine, a dinner for 2 will run you over $100. My only complaint would be the decor, which needs a face lift. Good food and good service, for a special occasion dinner, or a drink at the bar, I would go back.
Review Source:Went to celebrate New Year's Eve. Â Although the restaurant was crowed we were seated immediately with our reservations. Â They were running a special for the holiday, half off a bottle of wine. Â That was fantastic. Â The first two bottles we ordered were not in stock so ordered a slightly more expensive bottle, but at half price it sure was worth it. Â The service was very attentive an apoplectic for not having the first two wine selections. Â Made up for it by desert on the house. Â Both appetizers and main courses we well prepared and served at a good pace for conversation and enjoying a good meal. Â The salmon and steak trio were cooked to spec and did not disappoint. Â Good wine, good food, good service. Â All in all a real treat and a nice night out.
Review Source:Save your money. I have been here twice as a guest  as part of a large group for a holiday function. I can only imagine the cost of all this, and while it is a holiday 'gift' to us all, and its a nice gesture, I could very well  be happier with some food from the taco truck in town. That being said, it was better than last year. :-/ For what one would have to pay for dinner, I think this establishment is way over hyped. The food is presented with absolutely no imagination whatsoever. It's a plate with some food on it, no garnish to speak of,uninspiring looking, and nothing that I would get excited about eating. Looks like its an institutional presentation, and totally unappealing looking.
Salad was average. entree was mediocre. bread was pathetic. Cheesecake, not so bad, and the coffee was good. I did not partake of wine, since last year it was not very good, so I decided to pass. Because of there being so many people, I would hazard a guess at 50+, it seems like it was impossible to get the desert and the coffee in front of you at the same time. I would hope in a more intimate setting this would not be an issue.
I would not voluntarily come here for dinner given the choice. Â
Again, the problem in Woodbury is that there are few choices, and if you don't want to travel, this is where you end up. Here, or the Good News Cafe. Â :-(
Worst Thanksgiving Buffet ever! This review is specifically for the ultra disappointing experience we had at the restaurant's Thanksgiving Buffett. Â I've got two words - processed turkey! Â How in the world do you offer a Thanksgiving Buffett and not be carving a real, fresh turkey? Â It was beyond unacceptable. Â The crab cakes were burnt and dry, the equivalent of eating overcooked hash browns; the ham was basic and the prime rib was way undercooked. Â The sweet potatos had some wierd pineapple taste to them and the mashed potatos tasted like they came out of a box. Â And don't get me started on the desserts. Â There is no way those pies were freshly cooked, or even from a local bakery or farm. Those pies came right out of a box - each piece being identical to the next. Â
If you are going to eat at the restaurant any other day then a holiday buffet, then go for it. Â I can't comment on what your experience will be. Â But if you are entertaining the thought of a holiday buffet, you'll get the same experience with a Stouffer's frozen dinner - and save a lot of money while you're at it.
Came here for their $40 Thanksgiving Buffet. This place is very gourmet! Â The best prime rib I have ever tasted. Â It melts in your mouth and very well seasoned. They had all the trimmings, and everything exceeded my expectations! Â Mashed potatoes, sausage stuffing, candied yams, crab cakes, green bean casserole, and the bread pudding! Â Omg sooo good! Â Were not from here, and even though we spent our Thanksgiving without family, this place made up for it! Â Were thinking about flying here next year just to eat at this place again for Turkey Day!
Review Source:Simply great!!!!!!  Went for dinner and lunch on several occasions.. It's always great.  Food , service and ambiance are outstanding.. This is my new favorite restaurant  by far.  .so .go have a good time ..enjoy what Carmen Anthony has created .. Simply magnificent .. And oh yeah cleanest rest rooms you have ever seen !!!!
Review Source:I have to say after my recent trip to Carmen Anthony's Fish House, we we're terribly disappointed. I have to take in consideration it was Valentines Day, so we arrived very early when it was slow (4:30 PM) to have a drink and appetizers at the bar. The menu had been changed to a prefixed menu for the holiday and the great happy hour menu they offer, which we go for, was not available.
Long story short, the two female bartenders that were working when we arrived we quite possibly the nastiest and rudest females I have ever encountered in the hospitality industry. Neither of them cared to greet us, offer us menus and a smile was nonexistent. We seemed to be bothering them. For their privacy, I will withhold their names. It was terribly uncomfortable and I hope to never encounter either of them again. This bothers me because we really enjoyed sitting at the bar for happy hour for their $6 delicious martinis. I've been in the industry since I was 13 and I know how difficult holidays can be, but honestly, a simple smile goes a long way.
We always eat in the bar. The homemade potato chips are delicious! I love the sliders too! The bartenders there always make a very good gimlet. A delicious lobster roll (warm with butter) awaits! The only downside is that this C.A. does not have NESN - therefore, no Red Sox games. Oh, well! But check it out, you won't be disappointed!
Review Source:I was dragged to this place for my birthday by my significant other as a surprise. Well, on that note she got it right.
The first surprise was the temp of the dinning room. It wasn't cool, it was chilly enough to hang beef in. We were seated at a ridiculously large table. It could have easily seated six. It did, however, have a good view of the bar, with it's well heeled (and well lubricated) clientele, loudly offering their opinions on any and all topics.
We opened the wine list and got another surprise- an eye-popping gander at prix-unbelivable. Some of the prices reached well into three figures for the most banal selections. Sorry, Charlie, none of that for us. I'll have a bottle of domestic beer, thank you, and try to keep that contemptuous look to yourself. The wife opted for a specialty martini, which turned out to be an overly-sweet, overly -priced education in bar presumption.
Warren Buffet says "price is what you pay, value is what you get" After surveying the inflated and very pricey menu, I chose the pan-fried chicken,(having to endure another contemptuous glare from the waiter) and my wife opted for the seared tuna.
We selected a Cesar salad and requested it shared between us. Another resigned sigh. It arrived on the table, lifeless and wilted. Maybe it froze to death waiting in the dining hall.
Although my wife's tuna as "OK" ( I personally have had better at a Chinese takeout), my chicken was a cross between something flung at me from a truck stop in Gallup NM, and something shoved at me from the college cafeteria. It was hot, all right, but as it cooled it got progressively greasier and less appetizing. Not a good value. As Rodney Dangerfield said in Caddy Shack, "I've had better food at the track!"
The last act in our waiters rep was to continuously ask us if we wanted another drink, and then interrupting our answer of "no thank you" Apparently, if you don't drop the equivalent of two Benjamen's on a bottle from their cellar, your not worth bothering with. Act two was an annoyingly repeated attempt to push the dessert tray upon us. Not being a dessert person, and already fighting a rising gorge in my own stomach, we declined, receiving our forth, and thankfully last, look of contempt from our waiter.
If you have alot of money to blow, or better yet, someone Else's money to blow, and you don't know much (or care much) about food quality, you might like this place. Me, after enduring an uncomfortable belch laden trip home, I'll save my money,(and Gasoline) and choose somewhere closer, better and less expensive.
In all fairness, the men's room was clean, and both toilet paper holders were full.
Ambiance: 4 star
Service: 4 star
Value for $: 3-4 stars
Menu options: 5 stars
Love the menu here- it has all my favorites: Oysters Rockefeller. Blue Points on the half shell, fried Lobster Tail, Bouillabaisse.
We shared the appetizer platter for 4 which consisted of fried calamari, clams casino, and potato crusted crab cakes - and added on the fried lobster tail. The calamari was very tender, though not very crisp, and sadly, did not include tentacles- the potato on the crab cake was delicious, but it was hard to taste much actual crab. The clams casino consisted of the whole clam topped with a piece of bacon, and I loved them - except for the bite of shell I had in one. They had excellent flavor.  The fried lobster tail was disappointing - especially at the price of $14.95 for one very small, flattened tail - it lacked the crunchy / succulent bite I was craving. This dish was served with what they called remoulade. Though it was nice, it really was not a true remoulade and lacked a kick  - and some traditional tomato paste.
My husband enjoyed his filet mignon special with a Guinness reduction and it looked beautiful, but I think for the price it should have included a vegetable on the plate, and not just some potato. Â I had the bouillabaisse for $32.00. It was enough for 2 meals, and had divine flavorful broth - but the crostini truly were stale. The 2 shrimp were quite overcooked, as were the clams. There was a small lobster tail on top it, which I certainly enjoyed. I had it the next night reheated in the oven (never nuke seafood!) and that broth was really superb. The side of house made fries was a waste of $7.50 - tasting too greasy. Our friend's shrimp and pasta dish looked beautiful, and his daughter's salad looked fresh and colorful.
The dessert tray was enticing and we shared a white chocolate cheesecake (too sweet for me) and a gorgeous looking black and white  bead pudding. A Dramatic presentation:  Our server arrived at the table with 2 sauce boats - one with chocolate and the other with white chocolate (or creme anglaise?)  -and pouring them simultaneously in one glorious stream - thus creating a very appetizing marbled effect (see photo). The pudding was good - not  the best ever- but warm and comforting - and easily enough for 2. With 2 glasses of wine the bill totalled a whopping $185 before tip - though we certainly left full, this is a splurge restaurant.
Our server was friendly and quite attentive, but needed to be a bit more familiar with the menu.
We would go back to try the oysters and perhaps some fresh fish entrees. 4 stars for the fireplace in the ladies room! 3-4 for value because of very high prices and veggies, salad, and potatoes offered a la carte. 5 star menu options because there surely is something to appeal to everyone.
Every time I have visited Carmen Anthony's, it has been exceptional in  the quality of food, the service and the ambiance. I've been meaning to write this review for a while but with all the travel, it slipped my mind. My last visit was with my father in December 2009. The lobster bisque and the lobster casserole (that my Dad had) was wonderful. I had ahi tuna which was very good as well.
Review Source:Just not impressed by this Carmen Anthony chain of restaurants. Why? Â They are expensive for what you get. Â 2 people at about 80 bucks might not seem like alot to the doctors and lawyers of woodbury (seriously...last time i went..that was the only people there...it was weird). Â
its just a mediocre restaurant. Â The thing is there is nothing else around there....so people think oh this is great...i dont have to travel an hour just to eat. Â
Last time i went here..had to wait 25 minutes even though i had a reservation. Â Yeah, we were skipped over... Â Â Â had to go to the hostess again...said excuse me...these doctors walking in are being seated but we are just sitting here for 25 minutes...oh ok...your table is ready was the response...
the wait staff..nothing special...our actual waitress took our order and then gave us dessert menus and that was it..seriously..i didnt see her again...we then had 3-4 other people throughout the night take our dishes, give us water. I didnt leave her a big tip since she didnt do anything (she was with the larger tables where all the over priced wine was being served).
this place just isnt great.
I would call this an upscale place. Be sure to bring your checkbook because it is a bit pricier than other restaurants. However, they do also offer fixed price meals. I really enjoyed the tilapia I had. The service could have been better for this restaurant, but overall, a good meal. I'll definitely come back again but only when money is not a criteria for the meal.
Review Source:I really had a difficult time picking a rating for the Carmen Anthony Fishouse. I have to say, my opinion is based more on the ambiance, than the food. Â
Carmen's story is a great one. Â He is one of those hometown heroes who created his first steakhouse in Waterbury, Connecticut, eventually opening up this Fishhouse and sister restaurants in Orange and New Haven. Â He has found well-deserved success and notoriety in these restaurants.
The ambiance is that of a fancy steakhouse, with an impressive, professional waitstaff to match. Â The prices scream of luxury. Â Although they have an award-winning clam chowder, some great appetizers, a good selection of fish and wine (of course, steak and other meats too), I find that the dinner price outweighs the actual quality of the meal, but the same is not true for lunch. Â I must also concede that the dessert tray is quite enticing, and the banana foster knocked my socks off last time I ate dinner there.
If you are craving an attentive staff and something fancy this evening, Carmen's might be a good choice for you.
