The Cask and Rasher

Managing expectations is always important.  So lets lay them out.  One, this is a neighborhood bar more then a restaurant...don't like neighborhood bars...don't go.  Two, The general clientele are very friendly young hipster types...don't like friendly hipsters, don't go.  Three, this is a beer bar.  Expect a wide variety of wonderful draft beers with a bartender willing to explain to you the nuances of each.  Looking for fine wine...don't go.  Four, expect your meal to consist of beer food....hamburgers and chicken grilled sandwiches.  Actually we also had a wonderful salad.   Don't like beer food....don't go.

I didn't give them 5 stars because I felt the very friendly and attentive waitress needs just a slight brush up on which plates and utensils to offer...rather then be asked.  But she was wonderful, I don't want to give any impression that the service was poor...it just could be better.

Went there a few months ago. I was served raw chicken, and when I brought it to the server's attention she actually disputed me about it. It was taken off the bill of course, but I was astounded at the lack of professionalism.  I was never going back, but I did, because so many of my friends like the great selection of craft beers,  I did not want to be a whiner.  One of our group ordered a chicken sandwich. Same story. But at least this time they apologized. At about 9 pm, the place became packed with 20-somethings who were loud, girls dancing like strippers, and people doing coke in the restroom. Nope. Never again.

What a disappointment. Coxsackie native here, dropped in for a brewski and a snack on Super Bowl Sunday afternoon. The waiter's greeting was not especially cordial, and after delivering our drinks and taking our nachos order (pretty simple, yes?) he went off duty, assuring us that the order would be out momentarily. Forty minutes later, after no attention from the bartender or next server in an essentially empty establishment, still no nachos. We threw up our hands, settled up and left. They lost potential regulars.
