Managing expectations is always important. Â So lets lay them out. Â One, this is a neighborhood bar more then a restaurant...don't like neighborhood bars...don't go. Â Two, The general clientele are very friendly young hipster types...don't like friendly hipsters, don't go. Â Three, this is a beer bar. Â Expect a wide variety of wonderful draft beers with a bartender willing to explain to you the nuances of each. Â Looking for fine wine...don't go. Â Four, expect your meal to consist of beer food....hamburgers and chicken grilled sandwiches. Â Actually we also had a wonderful salad. Â Don't like beer food....don't go.
I didn't give them 5 stars because I felt the very friendly and attentive waitress needs just a slight brush up on which plates and utensils to offer...rather then be asked. Â But she was wonderful, I don't want to give any impression that the service was poor...it just could be better.
Went there a few months ago. I was served raw chicken, and when I brought it to the server's attention she actually disputed me about it. It was taken off the bill of course, but I was astounded at the lack of professionalism. Â I was never going back, but I did, because so many of my friends like the great selection of craft beers, Â I did not want to be a whiner. Â One of our group ordered a chicken sandwich. Same story. But at least this time they apologized. At about 9 pm, the place became packed with 20-somethings who were loud, girls dancing like strippers, and people doing coke in the restroom. Nope. Never again.
Review Source:What a disappointment. Coxsackie native here, dropped in for a brewski and a snack on Super Bowl Sunday afternoon. The waiter's greeting was not especially cordial, and after delivering our drinks and taking our nachos order (pretty simple, yes?) he went off duty, assuring us that the order would be out momentarily. Forty minutes later, after no attention from the bartender or next server in an essentially empty establishment, still no nachos. We threw up our hands, settled up and left. They lost potential regulars.
Review Source:Ok- wife and I were looking for good beer and a nice lunch. We got that and more. We got dinner too! As the quantity is more than generous and very good! The beer selection is very good for what looks like the corner bar. They have plenty of local brews as well as the old stand by " Guinness". If you are within 20 miles and need food & beer - make the trip. The staff will be very helpful and you will be very happy.
Review Source:We must have caught you on a bad night. We were a large party of 13 people and they could not get the orders right. Forget one onion soup and another one was ice cold. Really it was not even heated up? I was not sure how it made it out of the kitchen not even being warmed up? So weird. Just about everyone ordered a burger but no one got what they ordered not that they mixed up the plates they just brought out totally different things. Â Why bother even taking the order. Oh well the beer was good.
Review Source:Awesome. Â Seriously. Â How the heck does Coxsackie end up with a place like this? Â Awesome, knowledgeable bartenders, legit craft beers, unbelievably cool menu. Â They serve a burger that features an entire pound of bacon! Â How can you not like it!? Â I was in Coxsackie for four days and this is the only place I ate each night. Â Can't wait till this restaurant and I cross paths again.
Review Source:My husband and I stopped here on our way home from our adirondack wedding and absolutely loved it! Only about 10in off the highway and totally worth it! Super friendly people and service - not to mention yumm yumm on the food and beer selection! Our new spot on the way to and from the ADK!
Review Source:"Crafts of Coxsackie "
by Josh K.
Finding ourselves in the small town of Coxsackie on a mini-road trip down the Hudson River, we stopped at this hidden gem of a beer lover's pub known simply as The Cask and Rasher.
Upon entering the completely redone and favorably adorned early 19th century building, we were warmly received by a young but extremely knowledgeable bartender who gave us specific information about the craft beers they stock. Â He also gave us a rundown of the history of the establishment, and gave us recommendations of his favorite beer and menu options.
That tap was very impressive with some amazing beer selections ranging from the local Crossroads "Outcast" to some beers further down the Hudson such as Keegan's Ale Black IPA. Â If you come before 6pm, two full pints will only set you back $7. There also specials everyday including a .50 cent wing night which we hope to hit up next time.
As for the menu, it was basic pub fare but with some interesting options including a "Man Vs. Food" style 2lb bacon, 3 patty glutinous burger challenge.
The bartender steered us to the wings we he promised would not disappoint. Â Specifically, he told us to order their house specialty, the "CoJo" wings. Â
Here, jumbo wings are tossed in my beloved Buffalo-style hot sauce and generously dolloped with garlic and Parmesan. Â The wings were perfectly executed - crispy and saucy. Â They were fantastic. Â We also sampled the homemade barbeque sauce wings which were also solid.
I will easily come back to The Cask and Rasher for the great beer selections just as easily as for the incredible wings.
The Cask and Rasher makes the perfect pit stop and is a highlight of any drive up or down the Hudson.
This place is legit. I stopped in here a few weeks back looking to get a brew and maybe a bite to eat and was pleasantly surprised with the experience I had. The beer selection was good, carrying my favorite dogfishhead and poured with a smile. The smile was followed by a friendly conversation which led to an extended stay including trivia(on Mondays), and the low down on the open mic they hold on Tuesday's. After a few drinks, trivia, delicious chili fries, and a conversation with the locals this became one of my new favorite places. Would totally recommend it!
Review Source:Considering the neighborhood, Coxackie locals should be grateful to have such a nice pub in the area, and one with a phenomenal beer selection. I ordered takeout and had a brew at the bar while I waited. It wasn't very loud or crowded for a Saturday night, despite a crowd of mostly 20-30 somethings.
Staff was friendly overall, but kind of hard to catch the eye of. The girl behind the counter made some great beer recommendations and let me sample one before buying. The guy who took my order needed it repeated to him about 6 times.
Menu left a bit to be desired for me, but I think lots of people would have no problem with it. Meat city! ;) I could only order from the appetizers, since that was the only section with vegetarian options. However, the food was very tasty. Jalapeno poppers get special mention.
PS: They should really get their website running already. it's been under construction forever.
