This restaurant is very warm and friendly. Â It is clean, well organized, and the lighting fits the mood and the decor for the most part but the area we were in was a bit dim to read the menu well.
The server was a little slow to get to the table and beverage refills were not as prompt as we like. Â Otherwise, the waitress used the serving etiquette you would experience at very high end restaurants. Â Her knowledge of the menu was excellent and she was able to answer any menu question asked. Â She was polite and friendly the entire time. Â The timing coordination of the appetizer, soup/salad, and the entree were perfect. Â We did not have desert, but it was offered and the options explained.
The menu had selections for most any appetite. Â The three of us having dinner had the prime rib, pork, and a filet. Â The food was hot and fresh and delicious. Â The pork was charbroiled and my wife does not care for that type of taste and that was the only complaint. Â The overall quality of the food and its preparation was excellent.
It is a bit pricy but if you are in the mood for a great dining experience, check it out!
Finally, Muskegon has a great upscale restaurant they can be proud of. Â Their food is classic, consistent steaks and seafood that is served with the chef's twist of amazing. The wait staff are all very nice and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Â With the high quality food and service, the quaintness of the seating area and the chef's creativity, certainly make CF Prime a place to not miss.
Review Source:This is my favorite Muskegon restaurant!
Start with the cheese platter - so amazing and unique! Â Make sure you have the wedge salad. Â All the entrees and sides I've had are amazing.
They also have a two-fer deal on Friday, making their prices very reasonable.
I've paid much more for so much less! Â Eat here!
Our favorite dining experience in the entire country. My wife and I travel 50 weeks a year and always look forward to passing thru Muskegon for a meal at CF Prime. The Ahi Tuna Thai Lettuce Wrap appetizer was exquisite. Had the Fried Asparagus as an "accessory". Â The prime rib is outstanding. Â The Horseradish sauce was just right. Â Our server, Ted, was both knowledgeable, friendly and attentive to our every need! Â A truly delightful and memorable chophouse!
Review Source:Went on the yelp reviews and tried it with my wife on her birthday. In a word - disappointing. The entrance is in the back of the building were we pass the kitchen door with smoking kitchen help and a grease slick on the pavement. Entered a dark hallway without a greeter. Now we begin to worry but make a sigh of relief as we pass a wine rack and enter a nicely decorated bar and dining room. Promptly seated at a table that faces a wall. Ask for a better view and why not as most tables are empty. A very good mushroom pot as an appetizer. Yum. Now i should have worried when the special was an aged NY strip. I asked the silly question "Are not all the steaks aged and got a strange look and pause and a "um yeah." Â Of course my fillet was not. Oh well. Not even close to the Grill Room. Do not expect a Chicago steak house. Perhaps my expectations were too high.
Review Source:Best Michigan meal I have ever had by far, the area is a little lacking in terms of fine dining. Â Both food & service was excellent.
My only nitpick is the entrance, it's right next to the garbage dumpster (must smell good during the hot weather). Â They also need a bigger / better sign where to park & enter. Â (OK 2 nitpicks but I'm done).
Once inside things are very nice, comfy & cozy comes to mind, looking forward to a return visit.
There is nothing to improve in this restaurant! It brings to Muskegon the best of a big city steak house w/o all the phony pretensions of NYC. Try to be there Tues. to get the 2 for 1 petit filet. The salad and sides are well prepared using top ingredient .
The service is outstanding and the cozy interior adds to the whole experience.
Excellent mixed drinks and a wine list that features affordable excellent wine.  This place is simply not to be missed!
A top-notch classic steakhouse. This is the kind of elegant chophouse that you'd expect to find in Chicago, DC, or NY. It's small, dark, and elegantly appointed in dark wood and leather. It reminded me of steakhouses I've visited in Chicago and DC. It's a pretty small space with several tables and some high-backed banquettes. They also have a separate room for parties and a small really nice looking bar.
The steaks were terrific with portions ranging from a 4.5 oz filet to the porterhouse for two. Our party of six ordered their steaks a variety of ways and they were all well-prepared. Each steak is served with a sauce - things like, classic horseradish cream, gorgonzola fondue, cognac and wild mushroom cream. Of course, you can get your steak in some other classic styles as well (Oscar, peppercorn crusted, etc.) The side dishes here are traditional steakhouse fare as well: roasted mushrooms, sweet potato mash, baked potato and the like. No creamed spinach though. They had a very lengthy and good wine, beer, and bar list. The beers, in particular, were well-described by characteristics, alcohol content, and even a rating, which was helpful.
My meal here was great and everyone else at the table seemed to enjoy theirs, too. We started with two appetizers, the mushroom pot and the cheese board. The mushroom pot is just that, a small pot of wild mushrooms cooked down into a delicious stew served with sliced of french bread. It was so simple and so delicious. The cheese board offered three types of cheese, apple slices, crackers, and a homemade strawberry jam. The cheese was excellent - smallish portions but very fine quality. The jam had a bright, fresh flavor. I had the house salad with a balsamic vinaigrette, the dressing was creamy and well-balanced and the salad, well, let's just say that I literally thought, "this romaine is really good." How many times do you rave over the quality of salad greens? Everything here was exceptional quality. My wife had the Michigan salad, which was a crowd favorite as well, and she really enjoyed it (so much so that I didn't even get to try a bite).
I had the filet with wild mushroom sauce and a side of mashed sweet potato. The steak was perfectly done and the sauce was delicious. The portion of sweet potatoes was very generous and the maple butter was a perfect complement.
I had a Strongbow cider with the early courses and a Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold with the entree. I really appreciated that they had a hard cider on the menu and that their beer offerings were both diverse and well-described.
The service was outstanding. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. In addition to knowing the specials, standard menu offerings, and desserts by heart, our server handled special requests very graciously and quickly. For example, I asked to see the drink list again mid-salad course and it was in my hand almost immediately. Likewise, my wife was at one point without a fork (I think she had used it to share some of the mushroom pot and had it taken away with the appetizer plates), and the served noticed and brought a new one discreetly and promptly without any request from us. Courses were brought all together and in a reasonable time. Plates were cleared efficiently with a proper "may I take that, sir?" not the usual "are you done/finished/all set?" that you often hear.
Calling the appetizers "Foreplay" is a little cutesy, but the menu was classic without being stodgy. Bottom line: this place was classy as hell and the food was terrific.
My one recommendation to improve this place would be to improve the entrance. Either make the entrance on the Henry Street side of the building (where I hear that it used to be and which is shown in the photo here on Yelp) or extend the side walk around the building and beautify the rear entrance. As it is now, you approach what looks like the entrance and find yourself in the Pints & Quarts bar, and then have to walk around the outside of the building and into a really bare parking lot that is frankly rather sketchy. Less than a prime first impression.
If you are yearning for a great steak, this is the place. This upscale restaurant offers delicious appetizers and salads and a wide variety of seafood and meats choices. Â The sauces and sides are really yummy, Creamy Gorgonzola Fondue, Cognac Infused Wild Mushroom Cream, Creamy Gorgonzola Mashed, Sweet Potato Mashed with Maple-Pecan Butter, and Roasted Crimini Mushrooms to mention a few.
Review Source:This is probably Muskegon's most upscale, big-city restaurant and I hope it stays in business. Â The interior is sophisticated yet cozy. Â Menu is terrific: Â besides prime steaks they offer comfort foods like London broil, herb-encrusted half chicken and steak stroganoff. Â Let me make it clear that these are not your Mama's comfort foods. Â The stroganoff is described with "sherry infused wild mushroom & morel cream, sirloin strips, fettucine, parmesan" Â Also offered are yummy starters (calling them "foreplay" is a little precious, however) such as tenderloin carpaccio, crispy calamari, onion straw, etc. Â The steak menu is extensive and you can select a number of toppings with your steak. Â Seafood, lamb, etc. are also on the menu. In fact three of us had the special seafood offering of the night, 3 huge prawns stuffed with king crab meat and cheese in a wonderful sauce. Â Extensive wine list and house-made desserts. Â Service was okay. Â But, when people are socializing, having fun and making jokes, lighten up, server, and at least smile along. Â Â I don't want the server to be my new best friend, but at least relax and enjoy yourself. Â The website has a sample menu -- check it out for more information. Â Well worth a visit. Â It was packed (week before Christmas may be a factor) last night.
