I so wanted to give The Chancery more stars but then the bill arrived. Let me explain, I was having dinner with my family. I started out by trying the Bacon and Egg Bloody Mary. It was amazing! Crispy bacon, deviled eggs and a spicey Bloody Mary. The menu said the cost was $6.50 (because I had a beer chaser). Our food was excellent. I had chicken and herb mashed potatoes with a jalapeño coen bread muffin. All in all, service was good and they didn't fuss when we had to wait for part of our party to arrive. We ate, we enjoyed and then...the bill arrived. No where on the menu did it mention that different vodkas cost different prices. And the server never once said anything about it either. In fact, when she took our order for our drinks she said, "Do you want Absolut, Grey Goose, or some other vodka?" We all chose Absolut since it was the first she mentioned. But wait, the previous $6.50 cost was now listed at something quite higher. Those were "tiered" vodka and if we didn't want that we should have ordered "rail" vodka, she explained. Well, that would have been good to know before we ordered but ah well... so it goes. I hate to let that bring my rating down but part of me felt a little ripped off by them not being upfront with their pricing. Also, getting to the rest room in this place was a trek! You have to walk through the entire restaurant, out a door into a hallway and down a hall and then you're actually not in the restaurant anymore but in the hotel next door! Strange that they do not have a more centrally located restroom for just their restaurant customers.
The plus side? The Beer Cheese soup with soft pretzel is a great appetizer. And the chicken really was moist and juicy and tasty. If they can pull the other things together this would be a great place.
Good location if you are driving through or going to the outlet mall. Although,it is annoying you have to walk over to the hotel to go to the bathroom (restaurant and hotel are connected though).
We sat in the bar. Â The service was not good. Â Our waitress was very nice, but she just had too many tables. Â Beer list was just ok. I mean come on,this is Wisconsin! Â
I think the food has gone downhill since the last time I was here. Â I used to think it was great, but now it's just eh. Â My friend and I both got pitas. Â Mine had way too much sauce, and it soaked the bread so much you really couldn't eat it. Â The fruit cup that came on the side was great. It had really good fruit, not that melon crap.
I do have to say the beer and cheese soup is still excellent. Â It is also served with a warm soft pretzel. I would come back just for that!
Restaurant attached to hotel. Typically not your best option, but in the middle of a snowstorm, it turns into that or McDonald's. They have a fairly large menu and my server, Matt, was very helpful. I opted for a glass of white wine and started with a house salad which was not iceberg so that is awesome right from the start. I ordered the shrimp pasta with veggies and it was very flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised and it was more than enough food. I didn't get dessert, but some of the options looked pretty tempting.
