Worst dining experience I have had in a long time- such a disappointment! First, I arrived a few minutes after the breakfast menu ended. Usually, in order to make a guest happy, places are a little flexible on this... not so! Not at all a huge deal, but of course, no extra customer service points awarded there. After looking over the menu, I found a "breakfasty" burger with bacon, eggs, hashbrowns & some mystery sauce. I ordered the sauce on the side so that I could taste it before having my whole sandwich covered in it. As this place does not have fries (they have potato chips, which are the equivalent of Lay's- nothing special) I asked if I could have hashbrowns as a side since the cooks would have to make them for the burger anyway. I was told the kitchen could not do this... not sure exactly why... again- just not very concerned with guest satisfaction. Anyway, we wait for our food... and wait for our food. There was one other table who ordered food within a half hour of us- otherwise the place was pretty slow. After an hour had passed WITH NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHAT WAS TAKING SO LONG, we asked when the food would be ready. No apology- our waitress flippantly said she'd go check, not even acknowledging the problem. Awhile later she came back to say that the kitchen was backed up and it would be about 15 minutes. Backed up doing what, I have no idea, as the other table that had ordered food had been served awhile before. I could have cooked our whole meal in 15 minutes. At the hour and a half mark- get this- our appetizer comes out! We had assumed that our less than brilliant waitress had just forgotten about the appetizer and we were fine with that, as at this point, we just wanted to get out of there. Nope, here comes the appetizer, followed about a minute later by our entrees. Of course, the "special sauce" was smothered all over my burger. I optimistically tried it... and it was disgusting. Upon telling our waitress that after having waited an hour and a half for our food, it was pretty disappointing that the order was not done correctly, she said, "I'll tell the kitchen." Okay- great. I'm glad they will be informed, but how about the food sitting in front of me that I don't want to eat?! I was a server for years- it is your job to provide SERVICE! This girl never once apologized or acknowledged the incredibly long wait or the fact that the food was prepared improperly. Unbelievable. Not to mention, that as slow as they were, she certainly could've checked the order to see if it was correct. She could've offered any number of options to better serve the guests- something while you wait, have your food taken back and prepared properly, chat with the manager- anything! I could've dealt with the slow cook time and kitchen mess up, but when there is zero customer service to back it up... lose/ lose. You could not pay me to go back here and eat and waste another two hours of my life. This place was a complete nightmare.
Review Source:I was really unsure why this place has only had two reviews in the last 3 years, but then I was told they just added food 6 months ago! Â This place is one of three of the "Mike's" places (Capt Mike's Beer & Burgers and Uncle Mike's Highway Pub, all in Kenosha). Â We have eaten at the burger joint as well and it's just as amazing. Â
First, I have to say that we went in the middle of the day (2pm on a Monday), and we did not experience any crowds or noise. Â We had a http://restaurant.com coupon that saved us a ton of money thanks to their promo codes. Â
PS Mondays are $1 off drafts and 2-4pm is half off appetizers. Â BONUS!
We ordered the Bacon Sampler "Wrap it Up Combo" (just get it). It had bacon wrapped water chestnuts (I know, I know, but it was awesome), bacon wrapped jalepeno slices stuffed with shrimp and cream cheese, and bacon wrapped pineapple. Â Um.....yum. Â
We also got the Garlic Cheese Bread, which was a bread bowl, sliced 3/4 down in multiple slices, topped with garlic, butter, loaded with cheese, and baked. Â Yum again!
Then we got the "A Little Slap & Pickle" and the "Po-Po's Delight." Ok, so at all the locations the names are ridiculous (and I LOVE it). Â Both these sandwiches rocked! Â Now, I'm not one to wax poetic on bread, but they both came on the softest, most amazing marbled rye (and I am NOT a rye person). Â It kinda made the sandwich. Â Really creative ingrediences, and just the right amount of toppings, and you have magical sandwiches. Â
To top it all off, we got Gam Gam's Carbonara Mac N Cheese. Â I don't know who Gam Gam is, but I kinda want to hug her. Â Their Mac N Cheese (which they have at the burger bar too) is the dealeeo! Â Mac N Cheese is not my thing, but is a comfort food to my hubby, so we ordered it. Â It's not your standard, and it's insane. Â You can even Build Your Own! Â
During our meal some of the co-owners of the restaurants were at the bar having a business meeting and tasting new possible menu items. Â They took time to talk to us and we explained how we travel for a living and have eaten our way around the country, and that we LOVE their places. Â They were very cool and one even talked to us about being a fellow foodie for about 5 minutes. Â
PS. Â We were there during lunch, but I DID NOT find it to be noisy at all, per the previous reviewer.
All in all, we are Uncle Mike's Restaurant Groupies and proud of it!
Really good food, try the irish nachos (nachos on waffle fries) Â Â so good! Â good wings, good sandwiches, Â Â amazing beer selection- Â love coming here on an afternoon when its not to busy, Â the service is usually better and you can find a place to sit- it gets really crowded on the weekend nights (as you would expect any good bar to) but you have to wait longer for service. Â the staff is always friendly and Curtis. Â They have buzz time trivia, and thats fun, also a ton of tv's so if a game is on- Â your watching it.
