It literally is a nice old house converted to a bar.  Each room has its own personality and overall, the vibe is fun.  The bartenders enjoy their job and don't put on a show. Whatever they do, its genuine.  The people in the place give it a fun vibe, too.  And like the others said, they jukebox is great.  Cheesy pop songs to punk songs to country to classic rock to disco.   You will not be bored by hearing the same old songs.  You can't beat the prices.  Look for the amusing tribute to the original owner, a bicyclist, who died in the 90s.

Be warned. This place isn't everyone's cup of tea. If you like 'classy' bars, you should go elsewhere.  However, you will be welcomed at the Port if you are wearing a button up shirt and dress pants.  This place is casual and eclectic  to a fault.  You'll find artist types, rocker types, bikers, college kids, old guys, GNO parties, and everything in between.

The best, cool bar in Kenosha.

first time i entered this bar the doors were playing "show me the way to the next whiskey bar"   it was perfect and wonderful and will never leave my brain!  This place has such a wonderful warm, happy feeling, almost as if you can enjoy all the good times every one has ever had here ever, all at one.  Just happy goodness.  Not a fan of the draft beer- a little on the skunky side, but stick to the cocktails and bottled and canned beer and your golden.  a really old juke box is available to play analogue music.  The bartenders are having just as good of a time as you are, totally chill place, I love it!  Best Dive bar in kenosha!

Oh, Kenosha.  Tonight is the night I have been waiting for: finding someplace in town about which I am actively, wholeheartedly jazzed about patroning.

The boyf and I stumbled across The Port of Kenosha Beverage House two weeks ago, driving home a different way than we usually would go so that we could potentially stop at the 22nd Ave Dairy Queen.  Heading westward on 50th St, the red neon sign that read "The Port" on the front of a house caught both of our eyes for the first time.  We vowed to check out this bit of potential awesomeness before I returned to Atlanta and finally did so tonight.  And yes, it is as awesome as the red sign intimates.

No, The Port doesn't have a kitchen.  And no, it doesn't take plastic, so plan ahead or use the ATM inside.  But it does have the fabulous, laid-back dive bar vibe, tons of places to sit and hallways to meander, and the best-stocked jukebox I've seen in a long time (Nine Inch Nails, Beck, Prince, Bowie, Dwight Yoakam, the Go-Go's = yes, please).  And it's clean, aesthetically pleasing (check out the wood detailing on the covered and screened back patio), and warm and fuzzy (case in point, the optimism painted on the walls of the ladies' rest room).  And, duh, it has good drinks, too, from cans of Busch to summer ale on tap to summer mixed dranks (I can personally vouch that their $5 pints of Blue Hawaiians and  Hurricanes are delicious, strong, and colorful).

"If my [dude] friends came to visit me in Kenosha, this is definitely the place I'd take them," reports the boyf.  Living far away from Wisconsin, they are unlikely to do so anytime in the near future, but I know that I'll definitely be pulling for return visits whenever I'm in the 'nosh.
