Great view....decent, but not the best, food. The reason for only 1 star though, were the ants that plagued us in a booth. (Even crawling on us). When I told this to a waitress, she basically dismissed me and said the ants come out this time of year. We love Cascade Locks...don't love this place.

I really don't like doing this, bashing a business because of one person - but in this case, it was because of that ONE person that we had a less-than-OK experience.

This is a cafeteria-style "restaurant", you place your order with the lady behind the counter, she rings it up and gives you a number.  That in itself, has a bit of nostalgic charm to it.  The food is actually freshly cooked (I had fish and chips), and comes to your table hot.

The reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is solely because the food was actually OK.  BUT as I said in the beginning, the lady behind the counter was the most miserable service I have ever received.  Clearly she doesn't expect a tip, and doesn't act like it either.  She was rude, talked to my husband like he was an idiot (for asking a question about the size of the "side" salad, or "all-you-can-eat" at the salad bar), accosted him at the salad bar because he was getting some ketchup for his fries (she actually wanted to charge him for his "extra trip" to the salad bar).  Seriously.  I kid you not.

To top it off, as we were discussing it at our table, another employee came up to us and asked if we were complaining about her.  He said, "yeah, people really hate her - half the time I just end up apologizing.  Also if you leave a tip, she forces us all to share it with her, so please don't tip at all".

IF I come back, I will check to see if this horrible woman is behind the counter before I decide to order.  It's unlikely I will go back however.

5 STARS for the Marionberry pie!!!
We stopped in since there was a mini farmer's market thing going on in the parking lot. Turns out that a lot of locals put up their freshly caught salmon on the market along with some locally picked fruit. I bought two peaches and wandered in Char Burger to use their sinks to wash my fruit when we came across their marionberry pie.... So of course.... we had to try it. And it was DIVINE. Oh yeah... a la mode too. Unfortunately their a la mode was with random cheapy vanilla soft serve instead of a scoop of real vanilla ice cream but it was still delicious!

Everything else was cafeteria style and didn't look very appealing. Just the dessert/pie section!

Tables by the window offer a great view of the Bridge of the Gods and the Columbia River!

Awful food and awful service. We waited almost 40 minutes for our breakfast and my eggs were literally uneatable - luke warm and tasted like plastic. And $2.85 for an 8-oz cup of milk...are you kidding me?? Don't waste your time or money.

the only reason I gave Char Burger 3 stars was the view. this location was right next to the bridge of the gods. so your view is the bridge of the gods  and the columbia river gorge. the food however only got 1 and a half stars. the pecan pie was good. the salad. it was alright, basic salad. the mushroom swiss burger I had was nothing to write home about but at least the fries were decent. it's all cafeteria style so our party of 4 got  food at different times. in summary food, not so good. view, awesome

A great spot, with a great view of the Columbia, to eat a great burger.

Neat little joint with good food, cafeteria style, where you put all your condiments on at the fixin's wagon (for real) while you enjoy the beautiful views of the Columbia river and the ambiance of old school household gadgets and Native Americana.

Decently priced, and the food is about as good as it gets for a small town diner eatery.

They also have a little gift shop, and apparently awesome fudge, but it was sadly closed the evening we came in for dinner after a spontaneous trip out to the Gorge one super rainy day.
