    Short and Sweet...

Waited about a hour to be seated
    It was super crowded
The wrong drink was sent to my table
The main dish my friend wanted they had sold out of and couldn't make anymore (Spaghetti)
    Margarita - so so
    Customer service was ok

Bottom line, I have no plans of going back here anytime soon.

Don't knock the chain but considered the reviews for this location. I absolutely looove Cheddars. I lived in Dallas, Texas for five years and Cheddars was my favorite restaurant. Great food for a very cheap price. I grieved Cheddars when I relocated to the DC area. I used to drive to York, PA (70miles) away just to eat Cheddars. Yes thats how much I love this place.

So when i discovered that Cheddars would be in the DC/MD metro area I was ecstatic. But was soon disappointed by the elevated prices (prices are more expensive here than other Cheddars restaurants) and the horrible service. I agree with everyone that the service is not good and the wait time is unbearable. I hope they get better but this was my spot!

I've been to Cheddars a few times...

Pros - Good drinks, they'll have you feeling nice in no time, for a good price.  The food I've had is good.  Not great, but good, and exactly what I would expect for what I paid.

Cons - Listen to the reviews people, horrible customer service.  The servers seem lost and uninterested, very poorly trained, and serious lack of knowledge of the menu.  Most of them are young, probably high school/college, they gathered in groups to laugh and hang out instead of serve tables.  Also, usually a really long wait, which is surprising, 'cause the service sucks so bad.  We basically had to send a smoke signal to our girl to get her to bring some water around.

So, why have I been to Cheddars 3-4 times.... the drinks!  Try the Texas Tea, for $5-$6 you can get quite a nice buzz.  They say it's a limit of two per customer, but our server (thankfully) forgot how many we ordered, so we got up to our 4th before she noticed.

OK, this is strange.  It took us a week to track a time when the line was down to 30 minutes.  But I was not disappointed.  We went on two occasions.  The waiters we had both at first seemed abit young and immature, but the kids here need work.  My wife and I can have more patience with the youngins.  One was slightly better, Keith, than the other who was slower but not bad at all.  Plus, each had some skills.  In any case, both brought superb food.  We had the steak which was surprisingly flavorful, better that outback or longhorn.  The catfish was delicious and a nice portion.  The shrimp was fantastic, fresh and flavorful.  The ribs were pretty good but basically standard babyback, (fell off the bone though).  Now what impresed me most is that outback and longhorn will often fail to tenderize the meat or give you a lower cut than ordered, a fatal mistake with older patrons.  But both times here at cheddars my steak was what it claimed to be and tender and delicious.  Now the con.  Service can lag depending on your waiter, particularly getting everything in the proper order.  Here training is important.  But I have had excellent wait people and terrible food elsewhere.  I only hope this good thing can last.  Also remember, most places have codes and totally filling a restaurant can be a dangerous proposition especially if there is a fire.   OK thats my two cents I hope next time I wont have to rescend this review.  Oh did I fail to mention the reasonable prices, fabulous!

Went there on a Saturday around noon, the place was busy had a 10-15 min wait. Our server Jamel was great very observant. I had read other reviews and was concerned about the service but we were in good hands.

The food is amazing..big portions and for a low cost. I has the fish tacos which were very flavorful and filling. My son had the chicken tenders which were huge for $4. They had a great crunch to them and juicy. I tried the key lime mini pie and WOW!! it was incredible $0.99 for a mini cup...what a way to end your meal.

I'll be back!! If you go pack your patience because there is a wait to be seated.

I am a big fan of Cheddar's restaurants, and on a road trip through Maryland, I purposely set my route to take me through Brandywine to get to this place.  The area seems newly constructed, with stores and restaurants being built up.

We were there on Tuesday around 3pm, and it was busy, but there was no wait.  I noticed about 5 workers standing around in the hostess area, which I foreshadowed would not bode well for my experience.  Luckily, I was mostly wrong.

My party of three ordered various items:  the honey butter croissants, chicken fried chicken, Monte Cristo, buffalo wrap along with drinks.  I ordered the strawberry iced tea, not sure if it would be good, but it really was!  Food wise, everyone enjoyed what they ordered, except that the honey butter croissants were not as ...honey-buttery as I've had elsewhere.  And we finished off with the Cookie Monster - an absolute must when I go to Cheddars.  The food gets a 4.5 out of 5 for me.

Back to the workers just standing around - the restaurant seemed adequately staffed; lots of workers present, but tables sat unbussed for quite some time.  My friend told me she saw a heckuva line forming at the front of the restaurant as people waited to be seated, but there were a good 6 empty but dirty tables around us where those patrons could've been seated if someone would have cleaned them.  Seriously, they went uncleaned for a good 10 minutes.  We kept seeing the manager running to and fro as she took complaint after complaint from customers, including the table across from ours.

My bill came to $37.04 and I gave the as-to-this-point wonderful waiter Darnell two twenties.  He asked me "Do you want change?".  Um, unless you're satisfied with a less than $3 tip, then yes, I do want my change.  I don't like being asked that.  Then, he comes back sheepishly with two dollar bills.  Huh?  I have been to places where they will round up to give you back change, but never round DOWN.  I had been ready to give this young man a 25% tip until he pulled that little trick.  Long story short, I confronted him on it, he apologized and i gave him the tip he deserved for his service.

For the record, the restaurant seems to be full of teenaged workers, more like you would see at a fast food place.  Hopefully they will continue to train their workers, and the service will improve.  My service was pretty good, but I could see the fracas in other spots around the restaurant.

Came here with wife on a lunch today and it was decent.  I was thoroughly disappointed by how we ordered our food, waited to be served and had two couples come in after us and get food before us (1 of the couples has pretty much the exact order we had) and another couple got theirs as we got ours.  Also on the menu don't put corn "cut off the cob" when people will see the cob and think its on the cob.  This wasn't the first time the server waiter had heard this as he said so you'd think you would change it.  I will come back again but the next time I hope to have a better time.  Food was enjoyable since I didn't say that.

My husband and I went here a couple of days after the grand opening and I must say that for a new place with new staff who was still learning the ropes, it was not a bad experience at all.  We showed up around 5 PM, and it was already a little crowded but we didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes for a table.  The decor of the restaurant is a little bit tropical with dark wood accents - very nice and pleasing.  The menu is fairly diverse and the prices are extremely reasonable.  I ordered the half sandwich and salad combo since I wasn't that hungry.  I ended up actually getting a full sandwich and my salad but I wasn't going to complain! :D  The Monte Cristo I ordered was absolutely delicious - almost exactly like the ones Bennigan's used to serve, which is the gold standard I hold Monte Cristo's to.  My husband had a burger and fries, which he said were very good.  Our total bill, with two iced teas, came to something like $22 - which is absurdly cheap.  We will definitely go back, but make sure to avoid the peak times since that is when I get the sense that service deteriorates.

I ate here along with some family members for a Wednesday late lunch around 3.   There was no wait which totally surprised me after reading long wait reviews.   However, we waited a few minutes for a server to decide to check on us.  We realized later that it was close to a shift change.  As, a result we ended up with 2 different servers.

My sister ordered 2 dishes before she was able to get something she liked.  They didn't have her 1st two choices.  I don't think that they have figured out the food purchasing just yet.  As I've read in another review that they did not have a heap of menu items.  At any rate, I ordered the appetizer onion rings and the Salmon (broccoli casserole & corn for sides).  Onion Rings and broccoli casserole were pretty darn.   I'd go back just to order those two items.  I did a carry out on the corn and the salmon.  Mom had catfish (I hate catfish), she loved it. She didn't eat it all and carried out also.  Sis had the ribs and Caesar salad and didn't seem to enjoy either.  She ordered strawberry lemonade that they did not have per the 1st server but the 2nd server managed to find it.  She said it was bland and she ended up with a good ole sprite.

Cost wise this place was pretty reasonable.  I thought that the entire staff were 15-16 year olds working their 1st job; I didn't care for that at all.   I would have preferred if they had staff that was more seasoned in serving.   One pet peeve that I have is when the staffer has no idea of what something tastes like or what it contains.  Side bar to restaurants ...please have staff taste menu items.  It may help your sales.  I may go back...but if there is a wait, I will not be staying.  Overall the prices were good, food items were worth at least a taste.

Good food -- good prices - LONG WAIT!!
Cheddars is new to the MD area, but not new to me! I visited one of their chain locations in TX & Newport News VA. I forgot how affordable they were!
Im hope that the wait gets better but since its a fairly new restaurant to the Brandywine area as well as to MD im sure it will be a while before anyone gets bord with it. The best thing i love is the diverse food menu & the very affordable prices of everything (including alcoholic drinks)

I went to Cheddars for the first and last time to celebrate the graduations of three middle school children (including one of my own) and we had one of the worst experiences we've had in a long time. If not for a celebratory occasion, I would have complained or asked to speak to a Manager but I didn't want to make it worse or feel worse about my decision to patronize this business before doing my homework.  The food was brought to the table untimely with 10 minute wait times between each set of two dishes thus the food for some of us ended up being cold. The waiter did not know enough about how the food was prepared (as my husband is a vegan and cannot have food cooked in meat stock). With allergies, vegetarians and vegan growing it is important that each server understands this instead of having to ask the chef. The bathroom which had four stalls had two broken (which was not my main issue so I just waited about 5 minutes). However, after coming out six employees were in the mirror (possibly a shift change) changing their clothes, applying make-up and discussing another person using cuss words. To make matters worse they were at both sinks and chose not to move out of the way to allow me to wash my hands until I asked. After washing my hands I discovered there were no more paper towels to dry so my annoyance with the restaurant experience really ran over! Another employee (possibly leaving for the day/shift change) walked throughout the restaurant with his wife beater t-shirt and jeans greeting/hugging his friends or other employees. We then ordered dessert and again, they came at separate times with one being left off so after signing the check we received another for the $.99 dessert left off and took that item to go. I did leave a 20% tip for the waiter anyway but will never return and/or recommend ever again.

Second time trying to get into this place, it is ALWAYS packed!  But if you are lucky enough to get seated, the food is great!  Big portions priced reasonably, I will definitely be back.

Man, I went to Cheddars in TN or NC, I can't remember where, but I LOVED the food. So when they opened near my job, I was sooo excited, but they've disappointed me.  The food is still good, but the service is HORRIBLE.  All the servers seemed disinterested and bored, they chatted and gathered in groups around the bar, instead of serving tables.  My server had very poor knowledge of the menu and left my water glass empty!

I love this place simply because of the prices.  You really cant beat $5 drinks and $15 entrees. You'll leave tipsy and full....a great combination.  The knock against this place is the service and the long wait.  They actually ran out of the call things that vibrate and flash when your table is ready...I've never seen that before.  We waited 50 minutes for our table and it was loud in there...like shout across the table just to be heard loud.  But the food came fast and was pretty good.  A large group behind us was complaining because they were waiting for an hour for their food but was compensated with free drinks...works for me lol  I cant wait to go again.

This has to be one of the biggest dining disasters I'd experienced in a long time. Do yourself a favor and listen to every single one of these people with poor reviews. As they have mentioned, it's not necessarily the food; the food (what we actually got to eat) was pretty decent. It's the horrible, HORRIBLE service, so bad that this is getting sent to their corporate office as an official complaint. Seriously, no amount of good food can make up for the complete and total incompetence that we experienced and I am warning EVERYONE to just stay away (and tell family and friends to do the same).

Let's start with the wait, which is exactly what everyone warns. We checked in at 1:30 and were not seated until 2:30. The people at the front were friendly and professional, but seemed to be completely confused about everything. There were people complaining because others were seated before them. There was confusion about who was called up and customers accidentally signaled. When they told us we were ready, we find out that they didn't understand that "5/HC" meant 5 + a high chair... not 4 + high chair. We ended up losing our waiting seats and having to stand there an additional 10 minutes while they found a new table (and we saw several groups seated ahead of us).

Now we sit down and prepare to eat. I was pleased that the menu was quite affordable and there were plenty of dishes that I couldn't pick from. Our server was quite friendly and our drinks came quickly, as well as our appetizers. Unfortunately, the nightmare began there...

We received the one mixed drink that had been ordered by our table, a fruity concoction with rum, a pineapple wedge, and toasted coconut around the edge. Immediately the people who ordered it saw it didn't look anything like the photo. There was no coconut on the rim (or even in the drink); the pineapple was just messily shoved deep into the drink; and there was a strange substance sprinkled across the top. We had to wait for the server to come back after several minutes, only to find that they had no coconut. A couple of sips and we realized the substance was cinnamon, which is not in the drink description at all. Their response was that it always comes in it, to which we made it clear that the description does not include that, which constitutes not only false advertising but a danger to people who have allergies. So, it was sent back...

Then the server comes out and tells us they have no milk for our 1 year old. No milk? What kind of sit-down restaurant runs out of milk, which is used in everything from cooking to mixed drinks? Worse, when we asked to talk to a manager and told other staff, they said that they didn't serve milk. Once more, false advertising, seeing as the menu specifically lists milk as being served and part of the kids meals. I waited for about 10 minutes to talk to the manager, but our 1 year old couldn't wait; I ended up driving 5 minutes away, buying milk from a grocery store, and driving back. Upon returning, the manager apologized and said they ~did~ have milk and that we never should have had to leave to find our own. She followed me to the table, to apologize again and confirm, and that's when things became worse...

I had been gone for approximately 25 minutes, only to find disaster at our table. They had brought out most of the dishes, but they had been sitting on the table because no one had brought us any silverware. The server had been told ~three~ times, and each time she directed one of the waiting staff to bring us; each time, the waiting staff went to a completely different table with five silverware, confused that there were less people, laid it out and walked off. The sheer idiocy of these staff was unbelievable! All this time no one could touch their food and it had grown cold. My own food was either cold or luke-warm, and we were sending it all back as the manager and server were apologizing for everything.

The final straw occurred when my wife cut into her chicken-fried steak only to find... fish?! We were completely confused and upset, as there was no reason to have some sort of breaded fish smothered in white gravy. At that point we'd had it and told the manager we were leaving. It had been 2 HOURS since we'd put our names in to get a seat, and the best we'd done is eat some appetizers and have something to drink. The manager removed everything except the alcoholic drink, which no one had told her we'd sent back because it wasn't done correctly! Eventually she removed everything, we got up, and left.

In conclusion, do yourself a favor and GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. This has been the worst experience I've had, and that includes the Burger King up the way that was so horrible they closed down. We ended up eating at Arby's, and it was better service than we received here. The food is good, but it's not good enough to warrant the complete incompetence we experienced at this restaurant. Especially when we never were able to eat our food...

I went here for the first time on a Sunday night with my boyfriend. It's pretty decent, they said the wait was an hour and gave us a buzzer thingy and called us in about 40 minutes. The hostess, who I later found out was the manager, told us to wait on the side to be seated. After seeing 3 couples be seated after us waiting my bf said something to a waitress seating everyone and we finally sat down after about 5 minutes of waiting. The waitress was nice and did the best she could to get the orders and drinks out on time. Drinks from the bar took about 20 minutes and the food took about a good 40 minutes. The place was filled to capacity, but for a Sunday night they need some more cooks and bartenders. The portions were crazy big, pretty much everyone I saw leaving was leaving with leftovers.  I'd go back again but only for the drinks, appetizer, and desserts while sitting at the bar.

The food was absolutely delish. All of our meals were good. The Cornmeal Catfish was excellent. Southern Maryland was long over due for a good resturant. Its usually loud so if your looking for a quiet dinner this is not the place. Must try it for yourself. Heres my comment to some of the other reviews...Yes the wait is long but what an you expect the place just opened. Any new restaurant is going to have mistakes in the kitchen.

Went today for the first time.  I usually hate going to new restaurants in the area becasue they are so crowded.  Went around 12noon on a Saturday & the wait was about 15 minutes.  The waitress was wonderful, and I noticed how the other staff would stop past our table to ask if there was anything else we needed.  The food came quickly and was well prepared and delicious. I went with a friend.  We ordered the spinach dip for an appetizer and it was absolutely wonderful.  I ordered the Lunch combo for my meal.  I was able to choose a sandwich and two sides.  I chose the Monte Christo with the Southwestern Tortilla Soup and Caesar Salad.  Asolutely delicious.  My friend ordered the ribs.  She was so impressed that she ordered some more "to go" for her family.  We ordered the cookie dessert which was topped with vanilla ice cream.  All of our food was phenomenal, and the portions were HUGE.  I almost fell out of my chair when the check was only $32.00.  Our last outting together set us back about $100.00. I only pray that it continues to be this good.

Went on a Wednesday night and there was a slight wait.  Because the slogan of the restaurant is handmade food I was just expecting better.  I was not impressed.  I stated that maybe once the kitchen staff is a bit more experienced the food would get better.

I was with a friend that compared his Charlotte, NC experience to the Brandywine, MD experience.  It was a bit noisy and our waiter left off a few things as she either didn't hear us clearly or wasn't  focused.  The corn is good but the portion was that of a kiddie plate for both the sides we had but the salad as a side was huge.  I had the ribs and shrimp combo and the shrimp were grilled and were just OK and the ribs were not fall off the bone quality but were OK.

The strawberry tea was horrid and even our waiter stated she doesn't like it.  I understand the strawberry lemonade is made with real strawberry but the strawberry tea is with a strawberry syrup.  You should pass on that.

I will stick to Mike's American Grill for my quick pasttime for now.  May give it another shot in a few months.

Lastly, I tried to do a survey but because I do not have the waiters name and another 3 digit or 4 digit code I can't complete it.  That sucks because I have tossed the receipt.

Went on a Saturday around noon. We were seated immediately . Our waiter was great very attentive to us. The food was good the corn was excellent. Our waiter was ver knowledgeable and professional. He always checked on us. The strawberry lemonade was great.

When the floors are wet from the rain outside the floors are very slippery so be careful.

It was extremely cold in there that day and was already cold outside.

The bathrooms were nice and very clean.

Expect long waits in the future. A movie theater was just built in the back parking lot, a lot of business will go there from the theater.

I enjoyed my meal--when I got it. We waited about 40 minutes to be seated. We had to flag down our server (who admitted it was her first day). Our meal was served close to 45 minutes later. When I complained to the 'Manager", she proceeded to lecture me on it being a Saturday evening, and many people come to eat then, and them being new...Seriously? The service here is awful. The Cheddars headquarters had better clean things up or risk sullying the brand.

I ate here along with some co-workers on a Wednesday at 11:30am. The food was what I expected from a chain restaraunt, so I really can't complain. I had the chicken tenders platter with french fries and baby carrots. My co-workers seemed pleased with their selections, but the service was slow;  however, the place is still relatively new and it was really packed. This place is comparable to a Ruby Tuesday's or Applebees in my opinion.

So I decided to read a few of the reviews before I wrote mine. I must say, this place gets crowded VERY quick, and am sure that is what attributes to the so-so service ( not that that should be a valid excuse). However I went during the lunch hour and was greasing by friendly staff and seated quickly and our sever was wonderful!! Very polite and checked in us frequently, almost too much lol!! As most have stated, the prices are great and the food is good, there were 4 of us and we ordered grilled catfish, ribs, key west chicken and shrimp and chicken fried steak. We all sampled each others food and everything was good!! But I must give a special nod to the ribs and grilled catfish!! Delicious!!

We had the chicken and waffles. It was good. So was the mango iced tea. The issue was before we ordered the waitress told us all the items on the menu that they were out of... NO salmon, catfish, tortilla soup, pina colada, croissants, chicken potpie, cheesesteak.... there's was more but I can't remember it all.

The chicken fingers are Very good but they need to do better about having the menu items fully stocked. That's the management's fault. And all of this was at lunch time. The wait was only 5 minutes.

Well I'm glad to see we're not alone!  My wife & I are not crazy, we experienced the same poor lousy service that everyone else did.

I know the place is new and all, but they have to do better than this!  The wait wasn't long to be seated, only because it was 4pm and the waitress took our order quickly.

After the order was taken, things went down hill from there - I had to repeatedly remind the waitress to bring my drink order and the appetizer and then we waited a half hour for our main entree, which was missing the mashed potatoes I ordered.  The food was decent & the price as well!

The waitress we had needs more training because she never checked to see if we needed anything else, refilled my root beer, get us some water, updated us on the status of our order & there is something wrong with management if they can't make sure they have enough food & alcohol, we had the same experience - my wife ordered 2 mixed drinks & they were out of both!  Unbelievable

Please share these reviews with everyone you know, maybe then the crowds will die down once the word gets out that Cheddars is not worth the wait!

Service was absolutely horrid. I went the first week it opened and enjoyed my experience, but the second time around the staff was not focus on customer service. It took 10 minutes to be acknowledged, drinks were made from a measuring glass and most of it went down the side of the glass or on the bar.  My meal came in pieces and finally I waited another 15 minutes to be cashed out while the bartender counted tips and ended her shift. I won't be patronizing this distasteful place again.

First visit was awesome, great food and good service. Returned a week later with some friends in town from North Carolina and had the worst experience. After being told it was a 30 minute wait we saw several open booths in the bar area. One of the servers in the bar was nice enough to sit us without having to go through the wait. Although the food was still great tasting, the wait was long and the drinks was horrible. Having a full service Bar with a bunch of inexperience Bartenders will not take your bar far. In addition they was sold out of about of half of their food menu. If you can stand bad service, and no drinks for great tasting food then this is the spot for you.

A great place to dine. Good value, friendly service and good food for a chain. A little on the loud side in the center section.

We had very good service. However, It might because it was a Tuesday night. We were just expecting worse based on some of the earlier Yelp reviews. All the waiters had trainees with them. We were told we have a 30 minute wait... it was only 20 minutes. Our waitress was very polite and made sure we were well served. Being new, it was still very very busy for a Tuesday evening.

Like I said... we were expecting worse. My wife and I did have a great experience. We were either very lucky or they are getting over their rough start up. Or perhaps they are responding to the reviews they are seeing on Yelp.

We will give them another try in the future and hope for another pleasant experience.

For starters, I'm pretty sure I'll never be back. I'm not a huge fan of chain restaurants to begin with, but we just wanted to give Brandywine's newest eatery a shot.

    E-yuck!

I was disappointed in the taste, because the menu selections and prices were pretty good. The food looked good, but tasted bland. Being served lukewarm food when you're hungry just isn't where it's at.

The hostesses were friendly, but the waiter could use some more training.

Hopefully, things will improve, to save Brandywine residents the extra trip to Waldorf and LaPlata.

Two things to take into consideration: It's a chain, and it's just opened. Having said that, the prices are much better than most chains ($3.50 for a Margarita, $50.00 total  for 4 people). The husband liked his Steak & Cheese and another liked his club sand. My 'grilled' 'light' fish was slathered with salt and butter, but not overcooked. We waited over 20 minutes to be waited on, but the manager immediately comped an appetizer when made aware we'd been ignored. The onion rings are very, very good. My biggest complaint is that it's so noisy one cannot carry on a conversation without yelling, and they do not take reservations. So plan to wait awhile and holler, "WHAT?" a lot.

    Ok food at great prices!

It's what I expected really especially from a chain restaurant. I was pleased to see that the service was pretty good! I guess it has to be, it's brand new! The staff was very friendly and professional and the food came out pretty quickly especially for a packed restaurant.

It was very clean and the atmosphere was really friendly. I'm sure I will return.
