  Went in here on a Saturday night and the place was empty except for two guys sitting at the bar. Booze was cheap. I initially thought there would be people inside but apparently they were hosting a private party in the other room they had, so bring your crew unless you like drinking alone, and if you like drinking alone, then why not just stay home and do that?

  sat ourselves and promptly greeted by a waitress. polite and friendly. order two thunderhead amber ales with baked walleye special and Bacon Burger. very fast kitchen.  fish underdone yet good. Burger was a hit.  good value.

  Satisfactory service & good food.  Lots of TVs & keno.
  
  I've been here a few times during visits to Grand Island.  My favorite so far:  the Chicken Tender Hoagie with potato salad.  Good place for large groups.

  What the locals call the Coop.  Not too bad of a place to go for some bar food and local brewery, Thunderhead beer.  However every time I order their wings they always come out... warm. Almost like they have been sitting in the kitchen waiting to be served.  Which is a shame because I really do enjoy their wings.  Anyways, I never to seem to venture out of my usual - which is wings and a burger - therefore I can't really speak on the rest of the menu.  
  
  As far as the atmosphere, I love the way it looks inside.  It is always nice to be in an old Downtown, Grand Island building that has history.  
  
  Overall, the Chicken Coop is not a bad place to try out.

  This was my second bad experience at this particular location so here goes...Decent food and Excellent beer!  Thunderhead beer on tap at this location which is one of the reasons we visit the place; the other is they do feature the NFL Sunday Ticket.  The service is lacking however.  Today I left the place for the first time ever (in my entire life) without leaving a tip.  The bartender was lazy and bitching about how he had to change the TV's all the time etc  "I'm not a human remote and when I'm busy I could care less about the football games etc."  We'll sir you feature the NFL Sunday ticket and any decent bartender knows that's a part of the protocol...And they wonder why Balz is so busy on Sundays.  Moreover there were a total of five people in the bar.  Busy?  Really?  Balz gets it...It's all about NFL football!  Sorry to interrupt your smoke break dereilct bartender but we want to watch football, not watch you smoke!  There were two games that went into OT that day and the bar tender switched them away to another game...looking for soccer or something?  Anyway we asked him to go back to the games still in contest and caught flack...Never again will I go back.  
  
  In summation, go here to have a great pint of Thunderhead brew, food if it's your next to last choice, and don't expect great things from the NFL Sunday Ticket.  Stick to Balz if your into football.
