I have no idea where this bar is located. Â Having been guided by some friends who have been there before, we entered from Steinkeller, down a rabbit hole, and probably into a large wardrobe. Â Instead of a lion with the voice of Liam Nession as an allegorical Jesus, we found the next best thing: Daryl the barkeep. Â For Daryl is the keeper of this magical lair and will do his darndest to make sure you have a good time.
This bar is literally a back room. Â The only way I can describe it is if someone decided to turn their basement into a a pretty kickass bar. Â Daryl is the man and he will serve you up some tasty White Russians. Â Everyone in the place was drinking them, and so when in Rome. Â Also it is so laid back that measurements are often tossed out the window and substituted for his judgement of your sobriety and willingness to have a good time.
It was a good mix of upperclassmen and adult regulars. Â We parked there from about 12 til close on a Saturday and it wasn't really crowded. Â Next time I might have to hire a Sherpa or hack a Russian spy satellite to get me back to those delicious White Russians and whiskey rivers.
I've been coming here a couple years now and while it might be months between visits, it's always a good place to pop into when you want a stiff drink and a casual place to catch up with friends. They always have a $15 minimum for credit cards which is annoying.
The bartenders know what they are doing and usually pour a little heavy. It's easy to be put off my some of the servers but usually they are doing it for a reason -- I've seen many a drunk idiot kicked out or fighting outside. But luckily most of the riffraff stays at Brickstreet.
There's no sign outside so it would be easy to walk by it unless you know what you're looking for. Same owners as at Mac & Joes and Steinkeller. You can get to this place through Steinkeller and vice versa which is handy.
