Claddagh Irish Pub

Went here on a Monday because of their buy one get one free fish and chips deal. My husband and I were excited to save some money, and still get delicious food. We sat down, and ordered the fish and chips, and asked for water to drink, because we don't like to spend $3.00 on a pop. The waitress told us that the fish and chips deal only works if you both order pop or something else that costs money.  So a $15.99 order turned into $20 due to this. The sign outside says nothing about having to order pop, or a beverage that costs, with the fish and chips, and I hate being misled. Also, you get one piece of fish, and a handful of chips. For $15.99. Granted, the piece of fish is as long as the plate, but if I'm going to spend that kind of money on one dish, I'll go somewhere where I can drink what I want. Not coming back.

Come to Lansing occasionally to visit MSU grad school daughter.  This was our first time here. We  had driven by several times and had always wanted it give it a try but were a little leery after reading some of the reviews here on Yelp.  I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised.  The decor and atmosphere are very attractive. We were promptly seated and attended.  Contrary to some of the reviews here, the menu selection seemed quite good and the prices were not as bad as I was led to believe. I had the Jameson burger, which was a burger with a whiskey based sauce, cheese sauce and fried onion straws.  Delicious.  Wife and daughter had Fish Sandwich and Chips which they very much enjoyed. For dessert the bread pudding with whiskey sauce, which was killer.

Overall a very nice experience. We will be returning.

I can't claim to have an extensive knowledge of Claddagh's menu.  That's because every time I go there, I am unable to avoid ordering the fish and chips.  I love this menu item.  The beer-battered filet is large and tender, and the "pub fries" (potato wedges) are nicely seasoned.  It also comes with cole slaw which isn't too bad.  Ordered with a glass of Boddington's Pale Ale and I'm a happy camper.  I don't leave hungry, that's for sure.  

About the only negative I can recall from our many visits is that on occasion, the service seemed to be a little shaky.  At times I've wondered if they schedule enough wait staff, though they are always pleasant to deal with.
