Really nice experience. Â The food was excellent, I ordered the baked puff seafood (not a regular item, on the specials menu.) I also tasted the red and white pasta and the coconut chicken. Â I though the sauces were the strong point of all the dishes, each sauce was distinct and delicious. Â The deserts were excellent, with many options to choose from. Â The staff made the experience special though. Â Our waitress and the bar tenders happily made our young daughter feel welcome, even bringing her some grapes to tide her over, not something you get at every upper end restaurant, really family friendly.
We got in early, and by the time we left the parking lot was packed. Â My parents, who go often, did comment that a peak hour dinner could take a couple hours. Â You should be prepared what could be a leisurely dinner if you do on busy weekend hours. Â Not a bad place to spend a couple hours, the beer list was actually pretty good as well.
Impressed with the quality of the food and the creativity of the chef.  A fun and lively atmosphere in the bar which serves the full menu.  The inn itself  has been updated since we were here last.  Nice improvements such as flat screen TV.  The owner clearly takes pride in his inn. Staff is friendly.  Loved the bartender Mitzie.
Review Source:I recently led a Thousand Islands bike tour of 8 friends, a repeat of an annual event. We were staying one Friday night in Clayton and had dined elsewhere in Clayton previously and the choices had not been to everyone's satisfaction, so I looked for another option and found the Clipper Inn.
Initially, I made a reservation for 8 people and then needed to change it to 9. I also had to change the time of the reservation twice. And touring by bicycle, it was hard to know our actual arrival time at the motel nor what time everyone would be ready. We ended up arriving at the restaurant a half hour before our reservation time. Nine hungry cyclists expected to wait at the bar until our table would be ready. We were surprised when we were lead graciously through the busy dining room to our waiting table!
From that point, things only got better! The accommodations were comfortable, the wait staff was attentive, the prices were reasonable, the food was good, portions ample, and a great time was had by all.
I heartily recommend the Clipper Inn.
I have been coming here for years and in fact was at opening night last night. The complaints previous to this review were not about the food, which I want to focus on. Â This is the best meal in the area. Nice selection, thoughtfully prepared, big portions. Friendly waitstaff. Desserts are the best. I would also mention that the chef does a lot for the community, hosting benefits and providing a setting for luncheons to local groups. This is a place for a nice leisurely meal.
Review Source:Talk about poor service! Â Had a reservation for 615 last night. Â Walked in and there was no one at the greeter station. Â One woman walked by us four times with no acknowledgement whatsoever. Â A waitress did say hi after 3 or 4 minutes, and that someone would be with us~5 minutes later someone showed up. Â We were sat at 620. Â Three waitresses were standing around in the corner talking to one another. Â After 10 minutes passed and no one came over to talk with us, I walked up to the bar and got the drink orders for our entire table. Â Once back, I was informed our waitress stopped by while I was gone, but would return momentarily. Â We waited, once again, for over 10 minutes. Â During this time she kept walking back and forth past us, without even looking our way. Â Once we realized that our server was then standing in the back, talking to the other servers, we got up and just left. Â All four of us had planned on ordering the filet, have a bottle of wine and dessert. Â The Clipper Inn didn't just lose our money, we are islanders~and everyone that lives on Round Island will also hear about how crummy the service was!!! Â I would have spoken to the greeter when were leaving, but, shockingly enough, she wasnt there either. Â I have worked in the hotel industry for years and have never been treated as poorly as I was at this establishment! Â Do not waste your time or money here!
