This is DEFINITELY a local's establishment. I heard the ribs were good so I ventured out to the Coach House. As soon as you walk in the door, the cacophony diminishes a few million decibels.... dead quiet....radar alert...non- local patron has entered the building! Creepy !!! I ordered the ribs, one bite and that was enough. Fat and grease. The baked potato was burned beyond recognition. Frozen lettuce, dubbed "the salad." Water ok, dirty glass. Waitress groomed in odoriferous, Goodwill rejects and RUDE! The bar is adjacent to the dining room, allowing the stench of stale smoke to permiate the entire room. This place reminds me of dumps that gangsters like Al Capone would hide out at. Advice....leave it to the Coach House regulars! I have crossed the threshold that one time,  years ago. Maybe it's changed? Not THAT curious to find out!

My review does not include the food because we never made it all the way through the front door. We entered the restaurant and were met by a very unfriendly young lady that asked if we had reservations. I said no. She said she didn't think they had room for us (I could see a large empty table over her shoulder) and she said all of the tables were reserved. I said okay, we'll go somewhere else, and she responded that she doesn't even work in this section so she'll have to check. It really felt like it was a bother that we had even showed up. Another gal came then and said the table wasn't reserved and we could have it but we had already had our fill of the place and our party of 5 left...and dined at a very welcoming establishment and lived happily ever after. We won't be back.

The oysters are killer... and the service is great... I go there just to have beers and smack on oysters but other than that the steaks are good to...

    The food is not good.
It's not worth the cost of eating out when I make a better meal at home.
We tried it twice thinking maybe the first time was just a bad day.
    We won't go back.

So my boyfriend raves about this place and their porterhouse, Unfortunately when we went they were all out so i just went with a couple glasses of merlot and a chefs salad. I had a few bites of my boyfriends surf and turf was really good. We also had the calamari appetizer it was a little rubbery. Would still eat here again. Staff was friendly.

The menu has a large variety. Our dinner portions were very generous and the prices were reasonable.  I wasn't blown away by the flavors, but I'm spoiled by having a very good cook for a wife.  Friendly service. The patio area is very attractive.  Unfortunately I detected the very faint odor of a sewer drain coming from the floor area.

My wife and I are on a road trip to the Pacific Northwest and she yelped looking for places to eat in Coos Bay.  It's always a crap shoot taking that approach, and tonight we came up losers going to this place.  Should have known the minute we walked in - given the lousiest table in the joint which was strategically placed between the doors to the kitchen and the restrooms.  Really?  Whose idea was it to even place a table there?  Particularly when there were three other tables empty and available.

I don't ordinarily judge a place by its clientele, but my hunch tonight was spot on.  Folks looked like they've been coming here forever, been ordering the same thing forever, and accept the slop they're served because... it's their traditional gathering spot.

The service?  Amateurish at best and incompetent at worst.  The food?  Horrendous and hands down one of the worst meals I've had in years.  Years!  Halibut that was previously frozen and arrived grilled ("barbecued" in their parlance but they really mean "grilled") dry to the point of becoming jerky.  As flavorless as any piece of seafood I've ever eaten.  I searched the menu high and low, but no local seafood except oysters which were okay.  Come on - it's summer in the Pacific Northwest!  The veggies were acceptable, but I'm convinced they came frozen out of a bag provided by a restaurant supply company; neither fresh nor local.

When I asked about a berry dessert the waitress mentioned, she told me that no, it wasn't local or fresh - it was frozen.  Again - really?  The height of the local berry season and this is what is offered?  We left just as soon as we could and I am so ticked at having spent $70 for this horrible experience.  This place doesn't even try to be current, much less innovative.  Ugh with a capital U.  This might be the ticket for a certain generation of locals, but it's 2012 for heaven's sake.  Get with the culinary program.  This place is ripe for a Gordon Ramsey intervention a la Kitchen Nightmares.

Consistently good food.   That is definitely a  multi-star rating for me.  Eating in the patio area is soooo nice...all the flowers and space.  service was great.  What more can I say?

We checked this place out on Yelp and the reviews seemed good...it was a weekend away from the kids to help our daughter scope the place for a future move.  A steak seemed like a perfect idea.

We got there, and we were seated in the very, very small interior section.  We ordered a combo for my husband and I ordered the filet, very rare, with cold center.  The appetizer was okay (fried pickles) but when the food finally arrived, mine was cold.  Now, rare is cold inside, but the outside felt like it came from a refrigerator.  It had been cooked, but it was stone cold.  I complained, and the waitress offered to throw it back on the grill.  I said "But it won't be rare then" and she said "well, that's true."  I offered to just eat it--but when I try, it was terrible so cold.  She came by again and my husband said "I don't care to eat in front of my wife--could you cook a new steak?"  She said yes, and suggested I eat my potato while I waited.  Great.  So my food and veges are gone by the time the steak comes.  There is nothing like eating steak alone.

The steak itself was a great steak--but the service--well, we won't suggest this to our daughter.  The establishment did give us free cheesecake but should I have had to basically INSIST that the steak be replaced...and should they not have given me a hot potato and side to go with it?

Obviously, rare is not their specialty and they certainly cater to the big groups outside, not those on the inside.

My husband said his ribs were also cool...but he hated to complain after my situation.

Whether you eat in or take the food to go... The Coach House always delivers the best! Wow - it had been way too long! Not only do I love the food (every single time I have it), but even when you order to go, everything is fresh, hot, and still yummy when you dive in at home or elsewhere.

Opened the first container of the "rack of ribs" and said "Oh you're kidding me! THAT is not a full rack of ribs!" Then I noticed the second container with more ribs than the first. So, okay... the portions are still huge, and the flavor cannot be beat!

Twice baked is always good, and I love the veggie combo on every plate. Tried the soup last night, and while Tomato Basil isn't my favorite, I even liked that.

Thanks Jim & Carol for serving our community and beyond (for those who know to drive across the bridge to the sunnier side of town)! You sure know how to feed the people RIGHT!

    A fan for life...

When my Mom suggested the Coach House I said fine, never been there we'll give it a shot. Turned out to be great, started with the deep fried asparagus, should be deep  fried goodness. My Mom had the spareribs which looked and tatsted great. I had the porterhouse, one of the top five steaks I had in my life. Washed down with a Mirror Pond Ale. Finished off the meal with the Mud Pie also excellent. Great meal can't wait to go back to Oregon so I can eat here again.

Talk about "Local's Only!" When I was living in Coos Bay, I heard about the Coach House, and even ventured to the Eastside to find the Coach House, but never went in. It has a... unwelcome kinda feeling.  But oh my, the food. The glorious food. Everything is off the charts exceptional here. My personal favorite is the chicken fettucine, and the prime rib.The portions are huge, the prices are good, and you can get a stiff drink in the dark bar. What else do you need?   The outside area is great in the summer, (wind protected!) A perfect place for a small party!

Mmmmmm..... Rriiiiibbbs...... *wipes the excess drool and BBQ sauce*. The ribs are definitely worth the fact that you almost always have to drive around the corner for a parking space. The faithfully full lot is always a great sign! Fantastic fettucini alfredo! Way better than ANY Italian restaurant's in town. I always get the mesquite chicken version of it, and have leftovers for days... Huge portions in general here. Come hungry and waddle out more than satisfied!

This place is simply awesome.  Try to get seating in the outdoor area though; it's not only lovely, but more spacious.  I have a bee phobia and worried about all the plants, but they don't seem to have plants that attract bees.  Just lots of greenery that makes the place smell really fresh & lush.  Kinda like the food.

I loooove the twice baked potatoes, tho it's hard to wrong with anything you order here.  I don't eat red meat or pork, so I can't vouch for the ribs, but have had multiple types of grilled fish, and the grilled chicken.  All of which were excellent.  The grilled oysters are dreamy as well.

And, if you're inclined, there is a full bar right next door.

This is a must try.  Just be sure to call for reservations if you plan on dining out for a Thurs Fri or Sat nite ;)

2 stars for the food, 4 stars for the waitress.  thus, 3 stars.  so before heading out of town, I went onto Yelp mobile, and looked up the restaurant with the most stars in town...thus Coach House.  we kind of got lost on the way there, as Coos Bay doesn't do a very good job labeling street signs for out of towners...but again, Yelp Mobile saved the day, as it has a GPS blue tracking dot on where you are in location to where you are trying to go, so I following it and finally arrived.  the place opens at 11am, and we arrived at 1103am.  When we left just before noon, not a single other patron had yet arrived to eat.  weird.  anyway, they have an 5 star outdoor eating area, where hungry birds looked up at you from your seat.  very quiet and nice!  our waitress was awesome and attentive.  but alas, the food.  very expensive for what you get.  we got a $10 app of two sausages (nothing special) and a $10 app of fried veggies (pretty good).  my hubby and sis got sandwiches, and although they were well-presented, they were not spectacular.  i got a grilled cheese (blah) with fries (ugh).  our starter dinner salads were small.  anyway, our bill was $57!  for three of us!  not worth it.  so after a tip, the total was $65 for a meal that left much desired.  two stars was sooooo close to happening.

The Coach House is great- definitely my favorite restaurant in Coos Bay by far. I have eaten inside and outside in the covered area, and I love the outdoor eating area no matter the weather. It features a fountain, large heaters at every table, twinkly christmas lights, and plants everywhere. A great place to celebrate or take a date. Inside is pretty small, dark, and can get fairly loud.

Service is always friendly and fast, no matter how busy they are, which I really appreciate. The only issue I have is that sometimes the servers are very obviously new- they don't know the menu items and can't necessarily keep track of who ordered what. Coach House has a great $9 lunch deal, so if you aren't into 20-25 dollar a plate dinners, go for lunch.

My favorite menu item would have to be the bacon wrapped BBQ tuna- awesome! You can get it as an appetizer, on a meal sized salad, or as a dinner with all the trimmings. Many choices on sides- I love the twice baked potato. All meals come with free bread which I like and for appetizers I always like the deep fried asparagus and the deep fried pickles. I was even inspired to try making the asparagus at home (dip in tempura batter and fry), and was happy with the result.

I am not a ribs, oysters, or onion rings person but from what I have seen and heard if you like those things then Coach House is where you need to go. Have had friends order the cajun and bbq oysters, and both were well received. Also have had friends order the fettuccine, fish and chips, and the steak (which comes in a variety of sizes from petite to gigantic), and have never seen anyone disappointed with their meal. I would not recommend the chicken, simply because although it is good, it isn't as good as everything else. Would also not recommend their desserts for the same reason.

Pretty good!  I had been craving a steak so we looked this place up.  I had the ribeye while my husband had a combo dinner with pork and tuna. We also got the deep fried asparagus as an appetizer.
The deep fried asparagus was interesting.  Using tempura batter was perhaps not the best idea.  It got spongy fast and added nothing to the flavor.  Also, having a different dipping sauce other than a giant bowl of ranch would have been nice.
The tuna and pork were both overcooked, but the general flavor was pretty good.  And the size of the combo plate was nice as well.
The ribeye was pretty good.  Cooked well, but I would have liked more sear/crust on the outside and it wasn't seasoned as well as I would have liked, but it was pretty good!

All in all, it was a pretty good dinner, but had there been slightly different touches here and there, it would have taken it into the realm of excellent.  And considering the prices, it really rides that line between "I don't want to pay that much for that food" and "Okay!  That was a pretty good deal!"

The Coach House has some great food!!  Yeah, it's a small dinning area, but in Coos Bay, the close quarters are worth the food.  They have food on the grill that is great, i normally get the steak and twice baked potatoes with the roasted veggies.   They have a full service bar as well separate from the dining area.  Great service as well, Jamie is the best waitress they have by a long shot!

They have outdoor seating which is REALLY nice, especially when its a sunny coastal day

Driving by this place it doesn't really look like much from the outside, and honestly it isn't much on the inside either.  It's actually very small inside, a little too close for comfort for me, the tables are very close to each other.  They do have a patio area that is covered, to shelter you from the Oregon weather, but we sat inside the main restaurant.

My friends Aunt made reservations, this place is very popular with the locals.  I'm sure you are able to find a table during the week, but I would guess on Fridays and Saturdays this place would be easier with a reservation, it is small.

For appetizer we had 2 orders of the oysters.  They grill them here, which I never had grilled oysters. They are served on the half shell and have butter and garlic.  They were delicious, I wanted a whole plate to myself.

For my entree I had one of the specials of the day, which was skirt steak.  You were able to chose two sides and your choice of soup or salad.  They have a lot of side options, especially when it comes to potato options.  You can chose from baked, mashed, fries, twice baked, and even bbq baked.  I chose bbq baked, since most restaurants don't usually offer that.  I also chose the roasted veggies as my other side, which these were super yummy.

I can see why this is a local favorite, good food and service.  If I ever come to Coos Bay again, I will make it a point to stop in.
