The cilantro was fresh and all of the ingredients were prepared in front of us to perfection!   Look for $1 taco night on Monday and Thursday.   Great kid meals as well.  Fun pictures on the wall for kids to look at too!

Tacos were just ok -- and they charged extra to put cheese on tacos -- seriously. Plus, no chips. The tacos were ok but nothing to write home about. Overall, under-impressed and not likely to return.

Okay so this place isn't so eye appealing but boy is the food good!  To the reviewers who said the carne Asada was ground beef they were wrong. The carne was chopped very small it wasn't ground beef. The burritos were HUGE.  The carne Asada plate and the carne Asada tacos were yum. As for the salsa bar...not much of a salsa bar but the two kinds they did have were very good.  Will come here again.

Staff is really nice but the quality of food is awful. The food is pre cooked and who knows how long food has been sitting there. It was also very pricey for a fast food mexican spot. I couldn't believe this place had so many stars. Definitely would not go back.

Really good and authentic food. Cook was friendly and helpful and made vegeterian food for some of us.

The choices in the Big Bear area is limited. Most restaurants are nothing to brag about. But this place...It's delicioso.

Food is cooked fresh by an guy with authentic accent. Burritos are big, like the size of a fat baby's thigh.

One of the few places I enjoy in the Big Bear area.

My husband and I came here because of the 4 star rating and all the compliments and I sure am glad we did. It's a little outside of town but so worth it. Don't be fooled by it's looks, the food is amazing and a great price.

Chili Verde burrito w/rice, beans, and cheese - $5.99
It's the most flavorful and best tasting burrito that I can ever remember having.

Carne asada taco - $1 (Monday)
It was pretty good, not great. A little too ground beef for us.

    Carnitas taco - $1 (Monday)
A little on the plain side but still good.

Al pastor taco - $1 (Monday)
Simply amazing. If it weren't for the fact they had already put the food away (we got there right before closing), my husband would have ordered 5 more tacos.

Each taco came with FRESH cilantro and FRESH onions on 2 FRESH (home made tasting) tortillas.

    Large fountain drink (44oz) $2.50

We will definitely be coming back for more.

The Yellow Place - don't blink or you'll miss it.

Loved 'em since they opened.  I don't even live in Big Bear anymore but when I'm visiting friends, boarding, or just passing through I have to stop.  The specials of the day are always great.  If I walk in and there are potato taquitos, I wanna kick my heels together.  The fully loaded mushroom quesadillas are another favorite.

Family owned, low rent, authentic mexican food.  Great breakfast burritos on the way to the mountain and great dinner burritos after a long day of boarding.  It is a taco stand with walls around it, so don't go in expecting gormet.  The steam table is filled with your meat choices, so don't be afraid to ask what something is or to see somethuing before you order it.  Salsa bar has some great flavors to compliment anything you order, so don't be shy about trying it all.  The selection of mexican candies on the counter for dessert is a great touch.

The only problem I have is when it is crowded (there are only like 4 tables).  I sometimes have to sit on the tailgait of my truck outside to eat.  But if that is my only complaint, their doing something right.

Great authentic MEXICAN food served in a little hole in the wall spot.  The first time stepping into this dive I knew right then and there that it was going to be tasty.  The special of the day was homemade menudo so that is exactly what went into my tummy.  The menudo was delicious, clean-tasting beef inner parts, soft but not too soggy hominy (dried maize kernels) and a very yummy broth base.  A few days later we stopped by again and tried their tacos and burritos.  The carne asada was just average, the meat was chopped too fine to the point that it resembled ground beef.  However, the al pastor was very good.  Their al pastor was marinated with fresh onions and pineapples so that definitely added a very sweet taste to the pork.  The last kind we tried were the tacos de tripas (beef tripe/small intestines).  The tripas was tender, clean and tasty.  All tacos are served with fresh chopped onions and cilantro by request.  The burritos come with beans, rice and choice of meat.  There are two types of salsa, red or green.  Both are very good but not spicy enough for my taste buds though.  Last week, we stopped by and had their caldo de albondigas (meatball stuffed with egg and vegetable soup).  Extremely delicious and fulfilling!  Overall this place definitely serves up some good authentic Mexican cuisine with decent prices.  ($1.75 tacos, $5-6 burritos...)  Have been to this place three times and everytime I leave full and satisfied.  Will be heading back to try the rest of the menu!

    Hmmm... pretty disappointing food.

Made us wonder how people are giving 4-5 stars.
On Yelp recs, we bought the al pastor burrito (ok; nothing near special) and the carne asada burrito (it was flavorless hamburger, actually terrible). Salsa bar??? None. Little cups without flavor.

What is good: ice water. Portion sizes for price.

But on flavor you are 2 steps below El Pollo Loco and 6 steps below Chipotle. No chips. Also - only 4 tables, so don't make plans to stay long.

I had just finished up a 4+ hour snowboarding session with my friend and we needed somewhere to eat before heading back down Highway 38. Of course, he pulled up Yelp and this place was closest, plus the 4 1/2 star rating sounded like this would be another hole-in-the-wall goldmine of a restaurant. The tiny interior looked homely, with styrofoam plates and containers hung on the wall, being used to advertise specials. I sidled up to the claustrophobic counter and looked over the menu. Tacos are $1.75 each, or you can get a combo plate with 2 tacos, rice & beans for $9. Quick math, and a hesitant colon, led me to stick with a couple tacos a la carte. Best to keep things simple for my first visit. I ordered one chicken and one carne asada, along with a liter of Mexican Coke. I love that shit - real sugar and in a glass bottle; that's how it should be.

I liked that the woman behind the counter used a small griddle to heat up the tortillas. Then she packed in the meat, along with some cilantro & onions, and included a small cup of green salsa. I liberally doused my carne asada taco and took a big bite....

... and almost spit it out. W. T. F. ? For one thing, the "carne asada" was just ground beef, and Grade D from the taste of it. The flavor was akin to someone soaking it in raw sewage overnight. I tossed it down, disgusted. Even the memory of that smell makes my stomach wretch.

Moving on to chicken. Decidedly meh. Actually, 'meh' would be a compliment to the food here. The chicken was dry and had a weird beige color; it reminded me of little dog poop pellets. I'm sure with enough salsa, I wouldn't know the difference either way. I was starving, and this was the only edible thing I had, so I managed to wolf down 2 more bites before throwing in the towel. I chucked my plate in the trash and headed for the exit. I won't be returning.

If you want taqueria style food in Big Bear, this is your best and maybe only choice. I had the carnitas burrito and it was the size of a small midget. The salsa bar is bomb and the owners are very nice people.  Great place to fill-up your belly before heading down the mountain.

Solid, no frills, mom & pop style Mexican food and good prices.

If you aren't careful you might miss this place.  Definitely has some good Mexican food here.  Mom & pop style...I think the owners live above the restaurant.

Parking is easy right in front, the restaurant is tiny inside with just a few tables, and there is also only 1 bathroom (at least it's clean).  The food is tasty for a fairly inexpensive price.  Not sure of the hours, but I believe it opens around 8am and closes early on Sundays.

If you are staying up here and are in the mood for Mexican, this is a good choice.  We actually don't go here anymore since they close early on Sundays when we board and just drive down the mountain to eat somewhere else.

Decent...but if it weren't up in the mountains I'd probably say it merits 3 stars. The carnitas burrito was good enough, tons of meat but lacking some in flavor. Still, you want taqueria style food in Big Bear, this is probably your best bet.

Any place with a salsa bar immediately scores extra points.  And I loved that even the mild salsa and pico de gallo were a little spicy!
D's burrito was gigantic!  And it looked so good, I was a little jealous.  My tamale was awesome.  I wish I lived nearby so I could get them more often.
My new favorite Mexican place in Big Bear!

Hole in the wall, but awesome. You will drop about $5 for a burrito. Tacos are a couple of bucks. You pick the meat. Pretty basic, at least back then. They had like 5 options. I'd come here for my breakfast burritos too. Plus, real Mexican Coke bottles! Funny to find this in Big Bear, surprise.
Great for an on the grab meal if you are comming up the 38 heading to the resorts. May have to look it up to find it. I lived up here for 3 years and used to come here repeatedly.  Will return whenever Im back in town

Wow what a hidden gem...I have been coming to Big Bear religiously for over 10 years and I have never seen this place. well what do know a little hand made sign placed by the street saying Tamales would lure me in. This is the real deal no frills Mexican food . great tacos (see photo) and huge burritos. your choice of fresh salsas and the have the real Mexican coke in bottles. tacos are only $1.75 and are packed with flavor and are very large. For you hardcores out there they have Lengua, tacos de pescado, adobada, tripa and buche. My buddy got the carne asada burrito and was pleased with it, he could barley finish it. My only regret is that I wish I would have know this place was here. I asked the owner and he said they have been there for 6 years.I will be visiting this place again all winter..

oh yeah its "CASH ONLY" so bring your lettuce

The best Mexican food on the hill.  The chili verde is great.  And a salsa bar.  Mmmmm!  Also a good beer selection.   Free chips and salsa to top it off.  If you want Mexican food, you have to try this place.
