This place is delightfully ridiculous! While I don't think I'd go to a place like this in my normal life, Bizarro-World Vacation Matt loves these kinds of cheeseball tourist traps!
We dock our boat and are immediately impressed that this place has a beach area and a TON of people (our previous bar experiences at the lake had been sad and lonely). As we walk down the dock we start discovering more and more WTF type situations.
SO, it has a GIANT pool area, that is really just a bar that allows you to wade around waist-deep in water. On a super hot day, that's more than welcome. The eye candy here is pretty on-point, and the people watching rages from intriguing to train-wreck. I'll take it! And what goes better with this scenario than a bucket of rum punch? At $14 it's not the cheapest, but it is a HUGE drink and I could actually taste the booze, so that's a bonus.
There are games out the wazoo, with a beach dedicated to volleyball, a giant set-up of ladder golf, and other random amusements throughout the spot. Throw in a large number of areas for seating and getting some sun, and you've got yourself a recipe for fun.
We weren't here for long, as we were eager to get back on the boat. But next year at the lake I'll be lobbying hard for a visit to Coconuts.
We found this place while boating on the lake. It's a pretty cool place. There is a girl that helps you dock the boat when you pull up which is very helpful. The wait staff is very friendly and service is fast. Food is pretty good. Â We tried the taco salad and coconut shrimp. Pricewise, it was comparable to most places. They have a pool for adults only since it has a bar. There is a sand volleyball court. There is a small beach area for kids to play in. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area boating.
Review Source:This is a fun place to go for food and drinks! It is fun having a pool to swim in instead of the lake, for a change! The pool says no children allowed, but every time we go there, kids are in the pool!! Â Would be nice if they would enforce their own rules!! Don't order the steak quesadilla, as its expensive and its not steak, just sliced beef!
Review Source:*** Don't come here ***
This was by far the biggest letdown/disappointment of my lake vacation, and even the whole summer. Â I have always wanted to try this place when I went down to the lake, but due to the fact it is all the way in Gravois Mills, I never made it out. Â Finally this time down, I planned this as an activity with my parents, our family friends who are elderly (they live on the lake and have been here when they first opened), and my best friends. Â My friends arrive before me, and try to be seated just the two of them. Â They tell them they are only seating large parties, and would have to wait until we all arrive. Â They were very put off by that, and wanted to leave, but we were only a few miles away, and I talked them into staying, because as I stated I was very excited to see/try it. Â If only someone like me wrote a review to warn me away I could have saved us the trouble.
First thing I noticed as all the drunken 20 somethings by the pool. Â I was hoping to get in the pool there and relax, but it was so overcrowded, and people weren't getting out, yet pounding beers, so that thing had to be Pee City! Â Ick!
We are seated shortly after we arrive, and looking at the menu about caused my wallet to have a heart attack. Â We had looked at the original menu that our family friends had, which was from last year. Â Since then, the prices have went up anywhere from 25-50% depending on the item. Â I was looking forward to a buffalo chicken pizza, but for a 14" pizza, it was 24 dollars. Â I have never seen that small of a pizza that costly. Â Sarah and I decided to share the nacho's, so we could have a few drinks. The nachos were very plain and boring. Â No real flavor to speak of. Â My mom and dad shared chicken tenders, which they said were okay, but the fries were cold, stale and overall unappealing.
My best friend and his girlfriend ordered coconut shrimp, which were okay, although cold when they came out, but good flavor. Â His girlfriend ordered a BLT, but didn't want the garlic mayo on it. Â Sadly, it arrived with it just dripping with the stuff.
Our family friends had ordered a Philly Cheesesteak. Â When it came out it was very, very burnt. Â We were all starving, and the waitress was nowhere to be found, so we picked around the food a bit that we didn't care for, just to get something in our stomachs, especially since the food took close to a half hour to come out after we ordered it. Â Once the waitress came back out, we attempted to send back our food for new stuff, but none ever came. Â We inquired about this, and she just thought we were done with the food, rather than needing it exchanged, even though we cleared told her to take it, and show it to the manager/owner and see if he things it was acceptable.
Eventually the owner comes over to our table, and speaks with us about the experience. Â All the time he was very combative, cocky, and rude to my mom, who generally is the one who takes charge of these situations, as she was in the food service industry for 20+ years. Â He refused to take any of our food back, give any substitutions, or remove any of the charges from the bill. Â After a very heated back and forth, he says "I am not going to do anything for you (my mom, but I will do something for her (my family friend)" and storms off. Â He comes back, still having not removed any charges from the bill, and brings her instead a nasty looking piece of orange cake for our troubles... Â Never apologizing for how bad of a time we had, or trying to remedy the situation.
All in all, this was my worst culinary and service experience this entire year, and maybe ever... especially for such a hyped place. Â I don't know if he will see this review or not, but if he does I would expect a full apology, and some sort of grand gesture to change my mind about this place. Â I won't be back, and neither will any of the large circle of friends we know at the lake.
How dumb are we? Â We have lived at the lake for years....used to go this way to the since-closed "Time Out" and have not come this far back since Jolly Roger opened. Â We were almost embarrassed when they asked us if this was our first time here this summer....they have been open for at least 4 years??
Awesome place...bar, bar by the beach, bar by the pool, bar IN the pool....SWINGS at the bar in the pool! Â LOVED that!
My 12 and 16 year old were bummed that the pool was for adults as they were a bit young for the beach set of 6 year olds...they did give the trampoline a try and it was a great laugh to watch my kids struggle to climb up while the 6 year olds shimmied on up!
I agree with everyone-there were four of us and I paid about $85 for 3 meals (two people shared) 2 kid daiquiris and two adult limeades with rum. Â That's a lot no matter who you are. Â I get it...you are paying for amenities, but that's over the top for lunch!
We had a good time though and give super kudos out to Michael the guy at the gas dock who helped us dock the boat and get gas....we are lacking in skill in this area, sadly, and he was super patient and helpful!
Didn't get to spend much time here and experience the food but only the swim up bar. I want to go back and spend more time here. Very clean and good place for groups, friends and family. They don't allow anyone under 21 into the swim up bar which is a HUGE plus. They have areas just for kids and families.
Review Source:I was at the family lake house last weekend to celebrate my grandma's birthday. Somehow, "celebrating grandma's birthday" turned into "leave grandma at the house and go get drunk at Coconuts." Sorry, grandma!
The swim-up bar is fun, and a nice change of pace when you get sick of floating on rafts in your own cove. It's especially fun when your aunt is wasted and buying round after round of Rum Runners (with an extra shot, of course).
Great people watching in the pool, too. A lot of 20-somethings and bros, as well as older hairy gentlemen in gold chains and women showing off their boob jobs. It's an easy boat trip from our place on the Gravois arm, so I know I'll be back!
One of the newest restaurants and most reminiscent of a resort in the Caribbean at the lake. Â A bit of a boat ride down the Gravois arm, however the most unique and worthy of a visit.
There are plenty of docks to boat up to and plenty of room to get around the docks because of its proximity on a point between two coves. Â The outside is bright and clean and feels like walking up to a beach resort in the Bahamas.
Great for kids and adults, there is lots to do before or after eating. Â Everything is done top notch here with a sand volleyball pit, basketball court, pool with swim up bar and tables, playground, sandy beach, miniature golf, swim area with floating trampoline and gift shop.
There is a covered, open air dining room and a lower, larger outside patio. Â I've been several times and have only had lunch in the covered area. Â It has always been way too hot to eat in the uncovered patio and many other guests probably had the same idea because of its vacancy. Â
I haven't had a bad meal here yet. Â But the most memorable are the nachos and loving nachos as much as I do, I can't help but order them, a lot! Â The service has never been great, but just satisfactory. Â The manager or owner, not sure, is great though. Â I've recognized him several times and he is very outgoing and friendly. Â
Don't expect a deal here though, prices aren't cheap, but the extras don't come free either. Â This place has got to be a huge investment and I don't mind paying premium prices for the amenities they provide. Â It does irritate me a bit that if you want water, you have to order a bottled water.
While this place isn't a regular visit for me, I enjoy a couple of visits during the season. Â It is also nice to bring friends here that have never been to the lake before.
We came to the lake on an exploratory mission for property, boats, as well as a little R and R.
We left lake sold on all three thanks to coconuts! Â Great place, more so, great service! Â Really felt like everyone liked to work there and thoughts as coconuts as their "place."
We drove over, which was a ways, but not to bad, worth the drive! Roads to and lot was more generous than most.
Food was good, didn't really get to enjoy it as my kids were pulling us a way to the beach. Â Felt a little unsafe sitting up away from the kiddies while they were on the beach. Â One son is a dear devil, but can't swim and we were afraid he'd go off the edge. Â Wish there were some tables on the beach to hang as adults near the kids. Â Put Put is a waste, more beach would go further...waterslide?
All and all, can't wait to be a regular!
One of the best places the Lake of the Ozarks has to Offer! Â Great Atmosphere - it's like a small Caribbean Resort - Luxury Lake House Rentals, A Main Bar, Tiki Bar, Swim up pool & tiki bar, Surf Shop, Volleyball, Boat Rentals (Iguana water sports), Gas Dock, Ton's of Boat Slips, A great little beach with many amenities for the kids, ice cream shack, Live Music and or DJ at times - Great Food Menu & fantastic pizza.
The owners Tim & Erin Vogel & there dog Border are the best! Â You must experience it for your self. Â Oh by the way - It's pet friendly - just bring a leash!
I'm not sure what I enjoyed more - the swim up bar, or the fact that kids aren't allowed in the pool that has the swim up bar (much like the other reviewer).
It was quite a journey by boat from Osage Beach, but totally worth it. I think the best part was the atmosphere - the "beach", the surf shop, the restaurant, and the aforementioned swim up bar. My Pain In the Ass (half Rum Runner, half Pina Colada) was a bit too sweet - definitely have had better at the lake), and the food was just okay. We ordered the Shark Bites, which were perfectly cooked, and really good. We also split the pulled pork, which was just okay.
If offered a ride on someone else's bigger and faster boat, I'd probably come here again and drink all afternoon in the pool. On our little baby boat, it was just a little too hard getting back home (we could have DIED! Haha) - having to drive through the main channel with all the boat traffic - the water was pretty rough. Besides those points, I would come back for the swim up bar and the no-kids-in-the-pool policy!
Beach for the kids, pool with swim up bar for adults, swim shop, food, drink and sand volleyball...yes yes and yes. Â
My bf and I motored up to the dock in early afternoon on a Saturday. Â We were welcomed by two dock attendants who were helpful and bubbly. Â The place was busy, but not over crowded. Â It was a little cloudy so that may have kept some people away. Â We were in dire need of some sunglasses and were able to score some at the swim shop...bonus! Â
After that we thought logging a few pool hours and some drinks sounded like a good plan. Â Strategically placed barstools welcomed us and we ordered a round. Â Margarita was delightful. Â Service was attentive, friendly and talkative. Â Great service. Â
We didn't try the food, so I can't give an opinion on that. Â We plan to go back in late July so maybe I'll have more to share then.
The best part of this was the separation of the little tykes and the adults. Â I don't have children, so I really appreciated having the adult pool with the kids swimming at the beach below. Â It really helped out the atmosphere...at least for us.
