This place is like stepping into another world, a world filled with nice people.  With bartenders who are happy to see you and with pina coladas so delicious that you can almost feel the sand beneath your feet and hear the sounds of the ocean.  OK, you probably do since the beach is a couple of blocks away, but what I'm trying to get at is that this place definitely does NOT feel anything like the chaos of the city.  I love this place.  I love to just stare at all the old photographs on the walls of Rockaway people back in the day.  I almost want to move to Rockaway just because I never feel like leaving this bar every time I stop by.  I can't rave enough about this spot.  I just hope the city crowd doesn't end up spoiling this awesome bar.

    Classic Rockaway.

    Only open in the summer.

Hurricane's comin', boys. The rain is here. The wind is here. The rest is still to come. Jamaica Bay is a view to end all views. The Rockaways are greedy for punishment by Mama Nature. And they wouldn't have it any other way.

Judge not the Natty, for the Natty never judges you.

This is the real deal. Frozen drinks to get you fucked up, hole in the wall, and local Irish-Italians to spew intoxicated convictions about their ex-wives.

Taking a star off so that the whole of Rippers and Caracas doesn't run over here for a frozen and put it on blast. Ironically it's the only place to chill by the beach without a flannel, and while I sometimes like scenes like that, every now and then I just need to see a real New Yorker. Connolly's is good for that.

We come here after a bicycle ride nearly every Sunday, and it's the perfect rest stop. Good, cheap g and t's; very friendly owner who puts it best "work out then come here to drink." Down to earth, friendly and just right.

Best frozen drinks, service, and air conditioning in town.

Open from Memorial Day - Labor Day (dont worry, it's open Thanksgiving Eve and Rockaway St.Paddys as well)Connollys is a Rockaway summer time staple to the locals, an afterwork lifeguard hangout. Never a pretentious night; you'll more often than not see the owners hanging out alongside the patrons. If you'd like, play a game of darts in the back while ogling the bikini clad photos covering the walls in the back room. Can you spot this yelper?

Go early, get a seat at the bar (not MY seat though)... and wait until around 12:30/1am when things pick up. Out of nowhere it'll get crowded (but by then you're drunk so who cares) and everyone around you will be dancing.

Saturday nights there is frozen redbull vodka in the MAGICAL frozen machine- by 2a everyone in the bar is bouncing off the walls!
Enjoy your time on the peninsula DFDs (those of you who are just down for the day), just don't leave your garbage for someone else to pick up. :-)

Typical dive bar right off the beach. It's a nice refuge from the summer heat. The bartenders are nice and they take care of their customers.  My only complaint was that they don't serve food, but they allow you to order in from other places in the area which makes up for it.

Connolly's is a nice little refuge from the heat if you are spending a day at Rockaway. It also serves as a great spot to drink away the discomfort of a wicked sunburn (I speak from experience here).

Connolly's is a few blocks off the beach which is honestly an asset. It's nice to step away from the crowds, grab a frosty drink or two and enjoy some air conditioning during the heat of the day. Though it wasn't crowded at all when I went, the bartenders were attentive and efficient and even recommended a drink for my wife who just wasn't in the mood for the famous pina colada.

Overall, drinks were good, the atmosphere was laid back and very beach-appropriate and a good time was had by all in attendance. While I haven't spent much time at Rockaway Beach, I can see why Connolly's is highly regarded and would certainly welcome the opportunity to return. Hopefully next time I'll be slightly less lobster colored when I go.

This is one of the first 'bars' in New York that really reminded me of New Orleans, both in body and spirit. Yes, there are bars that sell hand grenades and hurricanes, and yes there are bars that have bestrewn themselves with certain Louisiana ephemera, but that's not New Orleans.

Connolly's is about as unpretentious as is possible for a business. You're in the basement or on the porch of someone's house. The prices match, as you're rarely paying more than $5 for a drink.

After getting ridiculously sunburnt at Rockaway, nothing will help more than a pina colada from a styrofoam cup. Aloe vera? Get away from me with that pagan witchcraft(please note the t. I'm not referencing that damn expensive sandwich stand by the semi famous bald guy).

I've been here several times since I last reviewed it, and have come to the conculusion that this is all-around the most fun bar in the Rockaways (that I've been to). Boisterous crowd on summer weekend nights, usually at least a few people at other times.

Get a frozen with a floater.

I ussually come here on the weekends occasionally, not a big bar person but this place is great. Vibe is always awsome and very supportive of there military. Bar tenders stay calm and cool even when bombarded by so many people wanting thier famous frozens. There is an outdoor aea where you will probably never get a seat but people make up for it by sitting on ledges and just standing as they conversate.

Be advised this is a summer only bar.
Pretty cheap don't need to visit the atm more than once.

I'm not a fan of the beach, and I only went to the Rockaway's for a friends birthday, which happened to be here. I like that the front has ample seating with little tables and small buckets for your cigarettes, I love the dirt cheap prices for liquor. I wasn't such a fan of the music the DJ was playing, or that the bar essentially stopped letting people back inside before 4AM. It's cute that people stand on the tables to dance, I'm pretty indifferent about the walls covered in pictures of female patrons in bikinis. The really great thing about this bar has little to do with the bar itself: the guys who set up shop on the sidewalk next door selling hotdogs and grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon. That was perfect. Supposedly the bar is only open on weekends in the summer, so keep that in mind.

Perfection in a local beach bar.  Nice bartenders.  Pina colada machine - ask for a floater (they'll top you off with a little more rum.)  Yes, they are served in styrofoam cups, but you can bring your own.  Cheap beers, great juke box.  Air conditioning if you just can't take the heat anymore.  Chill outdoor front patio/porch with benches, tables, and chairs.  Plenty of room for your crew to kick back a couple beers before/after hitting the beach at 95th.  The Q53 bus lets off right up the block - a well deserved relief after your commute.

Everyone knows about Connolly's out at Rockaway - a local favorite hang.  You'll get the scoop on the whole town if you stick around long enough.  Super relaxed, good vibes.

i don't think i would even bother reviewing this place if it wasn't right off the beach.

had a rum punch for $3.50 and sat on the patio. it was a very delightful end to a great beach day.

Here is the best way to visit Connolly's:

Wake up at 8 am. Put on good walking shoes. Walk 18 miles from Greenpoint in Brooklyn to Rockaway. You will arrive around 4 in the afternoon and you will be sore and possibly sunburned. You will also be very very thirsty. Dip your feet in the ocean. Sit on the sand. Find the nearest bar. I will save you the trouble of doing any searching: It's Connolly's.

Drink the best beer you have ever tasted. Also, the best pina coladas (though they might earn that title whether or not they follow an 18-mile walk). You will not care that the pina coladas are served to you in styrofoam. You earned the right to waste some styrofoam.

A summer time favorite for locals, Connolly's Bar opens Memorial day weekend and closes Labor day weekend. It also is open for college's thanksgiving break. But whats great about this place in my opinions are their amazing pina coladas. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone over 25 because it really is a younger crowd. Full of surfers, lifeguards and teenagers with good fake ids.

The bar is located in the basement of a Victorian style home. The reason they can do this is because they opened this business before the start of a grandfather law stating no bars can be opened in a residency.
