The Playland Motel

A bit of the old Bushwick in the Rockaways...but if you're not into that sort of thing, the mojitos are reason enough to show up. Enjoy it in the  adult sandbox that is the Playland Motel's patio.  Did I mention how tasty the mojitos are?

Great potential, terrible experience this time...

The space itself has a great vibe, very spacious, cool relaxed beach bar space, and a decent menu that seems worth trying. We'd just eaten a couple blocks down at Rockaway Taco, so we stopped by for drinks and got a couple snacks as well.

Beyond not having a drink menu, our waiter couldn't tell us what drinks they had available, and subsequently took 10 minutes each time we ordered to come back to tell us they were out of whatever we'd ordered ("signature" mojito-OUT, then sangria-OUT, then beer-3/5 kegs KICKED, then gin & tonic-OUT)

The food we ordered was interesting, the only positive note of the experience: Watermelon/Tomato salad was great, and Cold Corn Chowder was interesting.

Will try again sometime way down the road, hopefully once they have things under control.

We were wrong. Our waitress, Nicole, didn't bring us menus or even check on us until 20 minutes in. We had to go find a menu on our own. It took her a good 15 minutes to even take our orders. We finally get our order in and wind up waiting for at least an hour for the food to show up. Meanwhile, 2 separate tables have been sat next to us, have ordered, eaten, and paid by the time our order comes out, and it's not even everything we ordered. We had to ask her twice to check on the remaining orders, which eventually came out about 10 minutes later. At this point, I asked to speak to a manager. She never got the manager. She never checked in with us again, but cowered in the corner until we left. The sliders were golf ball sized, the fish sandwiches were greasy, the 3 tacos in the order were the equivalent of 1 regular taco at a truck, but cost 3 times as much, and the salad came on potatoes, not lettuce. Conclusion? The food sucks, the service sucks, it's all overpriced- just don't go.
