I would have given this five stars, but one thing I could not get over: You are eating in a big freaking house, and (at least in our sitting area) you can hear pretty much any conversation going on nearby. Â They need to add some sort of music that is piped throughout the entire dining area. Â Perhaps a mic'd up piano player or something. Â Then - 5 stars. Â
We had the steak / gnocchi appetizers - both were great. Â Lamb / steak for dinner - I had the lamb and it was wonderful. Â
Desserts - fritters / bread pudding - two of the best desserts I have ever tried. Â
If I had to change anything - it would be the portion size / cost of the entrees - a bit too much $$$ for what you get (when compared to a place like Jack Fry's at least). Â
Wines by the glass had some of the best selection of any restaurant in Louisville (not the breadth, more the quality of the wine that is offered). Â
Would recommend this place for a fancy night out. Â Be prepared to spend about $100 / head for three courses and wine.
Traveling to Louisville for business and of course checked out Yelp. Â Corbett's had a good rating and sounded interesting. Â Gave it a shot and so glad I did.
The food was fantastic. Â Each course we had surpased the prior (we stopped at dinner as we were full). Â They knew thier wines as well. Â
We started with the mussels and they were very good. Â Did not taste fishy at all which says they were fresh. Â The garlic wine sauce was good (don't forget to use your bread also). Â Next came the soup of the day, which was a chowder that was very flavorful. Â For the main meal I had pork tenderlion tourneados and they were cooked to perfection. Â Extremely flavorful and the accompanying sauce was excellent.
Service was very attentive and the little name tag on the table (I had made a reservation) was a nice touch. Â The dining room is in an old house so has a homey feel.
Would highly recommend Corbett's. Â Wierd location next to Costco, but I believe Corbett's was there first. Â Would definitely go back again.
We went here for the first time on New Year's Eve. Normally, I'm incredibly reluctant to get forced into pre-set menus for special events.
So...I made a joke about asking for the lunch menu. The blue-hairs at the table next to me glared in my direction.
Honestly, I was impressed with the service and food quality, though I would have preferred to choose my own meal. The girls loved the wine pairing, and I was more than happy with the staff's bourbon selection.
I will go back here, but I may have to save my pennies to afford the lunch menu. My advice? Get your in-laws to pay for it when they come to town!
My dad and I ate dinner here during his last visit and we were both very pleased and happy! Â We both decided on the five course tasting menu because there are so many options on the menu that are interesting I couldn't decide! Â The portions were perfect, the seasonings were perfect and the service was attentive and nice. Â The only reason I won't give it 5 stars is because I am feeling ultra picky today- and want to go back and try more things!
Review Source:Enjoyable meal (albeit small portions for the prix fixe. The crab cake is tiny.) and I still felt full after 5 hours. Â They food was full of flavor and presented nicely. Â I'd go back. Â Please note that the linguini is not made in-house for lunch but is for dinner. Â I had a daily special of rock shrimp in linguini and really enjoyed all of the flavor and textures. Â Nicely done!
Review Source:Love the Lunch Prix Fixe menu! Â Yes, this is a high-end, fine dining restaurant. I expect snooty customers, and top-notch service. Â Definitely wouldn't eat here wearing less than business casual (Unless you are one of those rich people that says, "I can afford it, so screw you"). I have as of yet to taste something I don't like. The homemade ice cream, is by far my favorite.
The ambiance of the restaurant is one of my favorite in Louisville. I feel as if I'm eating in someone's home (I am!). There is a dining room to fit my mood: outside casual, inside casual, inside formal, inside business meeting, or interesting, fun wineskeller.
My husband is a foodie; I've eaten at some of the finest dining in NYC, Chicago, and Philadelphia (even eaten food by the finest, most popular chefs on food network). Â Corbett's is right up there (without the price tag AND it is close to home).
As for the reviewer that read Corbett's the riot act. If that is the attitude he went into Corbett's with...yeah, I would have told him that the restaurant was full too. I wouldn't subject my customers to his "high and mighty" attitude either.
Every dinning experience I have ever had here has been a 5 star experience.
From the way the wait staff is expertly trained, to the wonderful food that is served, everything about this place is just wonderful and it is a true foodies paradise.
I have had over 50 meals here over the years and I have yet to have had a bad dinning experience.
As for the reviewer that feels it necessary to attack Dean, that was just unnecessary.
Way to be classy guy, say you take the higher ground but encourage people to dig into someones personal life, for shame. You lack the class this place exudes.
Ruuuude, elitist or just uncaring. I decided to go for an early lunch. They open at 11, I was in their lot at about quarter till. Tried calling but didn't answer, no biggie. 11:00 am doors are still locked. I called twice more and finally got someone to pick up at about 11:10. I asked about a lunch for two. Â I was then asked if I had a reservation. I said no and was rudely told that they were too book during their entire lunch and had no openings but I could call back if I wish to see if they had a cancellation but was told that was very uncommon. From 10:45 - about 11:15 no one showed up to this place. I was parked there sitting. When I informed her of this she said of I thought she was lying maybe I couldn't afford this fine restaurant anyway, she then said, "Good day!" and hung up. I was so livid I forgot to get to get her name and was afraid of what I would say or what would happen if I went inside after that.
I soooo want to mention personal aspects of this place and the owner's issues but I will be the better person. If you would like to know more though feel free to google this name and you'll find plenty about the owner from the past month or so.
I've wanted for some time to visit this establishment. That will never happen. I am not rich but I do live about 5 minutes away from this location and if id like to eat there I can but now choose not to.
Such a shame!
Place is very nice and hey! If you have a hankering you can always go to Costco in the backyard when your done :-) No, Really! The Costco is in the backyard.
Had a client bring me here for dinner. Did the chef's tasting menu. The fun thing was actually watching your meal cooked live on TV. Camera's in the spotless kitchen.
With the tasting menu you have every item of menu selection, well 5 items consisting of fish, beef, and poultry. Also had a wine selection with each dish. So by the end of drinking a closing Port, I was both full and a little drunk.
Place has a lot of class, very quiet, and professional.
This is not for people in a hurry, your meal and the quality will take time. A lot of time.
This is an establishment for you and a client to discuss business in private, it is a location to take your spouse for a special occasion, and not in my opinion to take your children.
The pictures are spot on, so view at your leisure.
I have eaten at a lot of nice restaurants through out my life, but this was the best service I have ever experienced. Â Every single person who worked there went out of their way to make our experience the best it could be, and to accommodate our every request. Â The food was also delicious. Â I wish it weren't so far away from downtown, but I don't really mind. Â We actually sat on the front porch, and it was so nice and peaceful - there wasn't a hint of the shopping center surrounding. Â The place obviously takes great care in training their employees and taking care of their customers.
Review Source:If you really want to feel special, and have a wonderful dining experience this is the place to go. If you have made reservations, an elegant seating card with your name will appear at your table. The servers are wonderful, the chef will send special treats to your table, each course will be expertly prepared and you will be treated like royalty. This is my favorite special occasion place to go. I have been here many times, and I have never been disappointed. If there was ever a time that something wasn't done to my liking, I am certain that it would be corrected with out any questions. Love It!
Review Source:Perfect atmosphere to feel like it should be a special occasion!
Fortunately for me it was a special occasion. When we made our reservations the host asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. We opted to not go the announcement route and just told them we would be dining with them for the first time. When we arrived to our reservation table there sat a place card with our name beautifully written.
The reason I gave this place five stars beside four is the attention to detail that was given our table. Our service was mostly handled by our server, but if there sat an empty plate, low glass of water, or our efforts to catch someones attention, there was someone there waiting.
The food and chef are amazing. We received a small amuse bouche spring roll. I enjoyed the sauce that came with this bite size sample, but was not overwhelmed by the spring roll itself. Next we ordered the pate and lobster casserole. I decided to mix and match between the crackers and different artisan breads we received. I absolutely loved the lobster casserole! For dinner, we had the menu lamb and fillet Mignon dish of the night. Both were cooked to perfect temperature and the side dishes were well prepared.
For dessert we tried the Strawberry Sorbet with black pepper. The taste of the sorbet was not very different, but the black pepper grounds did help cut the sweetness. With our check we received another small dessert sampler plate. I thought this was a very nice touch.
There is a 5 course meal that the chef makes special every day. This ranges around $65 dollars a person. I believe each course comes with a paring of wine. At Corbett, let your host or server choose your wine. They have been instructed on the best compliments and you will not be sorry.
Although I was mostly intoxicated by being with my loving boyfriend, it did help to have an amazing vanilla bean cocktail and a glass of great red wine.
Speaking as a foodie from California visiting Louisville last year for the Breeder's Cup races--The BEST filet mignon I ever tasted!
I was taken there for lunch and came back that night for dinner. Â I had the filet alone at lunch and, again,at dinner. Â This was very unusual for me,but,I wanted to see if it was a "fluke". Â It wasn't.
This is as good as it gets! Â Congratulations, Corbett's! Â Visited there for the first time today, and the quality of every aspect of the meal was top-shelf. Â I had become very discouraged that many "fine dining" Â restaurants always ensure that the "fine dining" Â prices are in place, but, often, no focus on providing a quality meal and experience for the guest. Â Corbett's hit a homerun today....already thinking about the next trip there! Â Loved the mussels, especially, but everything ordered was a delight. Â Beautiful, tasteful surroundings. Â Pleasant, attentive wait staff. Â Worth it!
Review Source:We stumbled across Corbett's en route around Louisville on our way home to Cincinnati. We arrived late on a Thursday evening two weeks ago. We had no reservation, but were seated immediately. The place was extremely comfortable with good lighting. Service was excellent. My first glance at the menu caused me to fear we'd made a mistake. It appeared to be what I would normally call a "f..k with the food" kind of place, where nothing tastes like it should because it's been so worked over.I was wrong. Everything we ordered was at least very good, and many things were truly excellent. My favorite was the pork loin. I'd actually drive the two hours back to Louisville for more of that. I strongly recommend this place. Go out of your way to try it.
Review Source:This place is a study in contrasts. Make that a masters thesis in contrasts.
Its a wonderful setting. You have a plantation house on a hilltop surrounded by lush trees...right next door to a Costco parking lot?
The service was quick and attentive but they failed to replace our knives and forks during one course. They asked if we had any food allergies but didn't ask how we would like our steaks prepared?
The food was mostly great but there were a few mishits (bones in the fish). We did the tasting menu and I have the feeling that if I ate here a lot, I would find a lot of things on the a la carte menu that I would love.
The atmosphere was fine but I was seated right on top of an air conditioner vent so by the time I was done, my left elbow was frozen.
So, as you can see, there were some hits and some misses but something tells me if I ate here more often, I would love it!
Smiley face.
This is our third visit to this restaurant. We arrived just in time for our reservation and the staff let us go to the bar for a cocktail before dinner and held our table for 1/2 an hour. Really nice of them. The bar tender was extremely knowledgeabe about local bourbons and let my friend taste a few before choosing one.
Our waiter was very friendly and just attentive enough to make sure we felt looked after. The mussels, foie gras, and sweetbreads were fantastic appetizers. The lamb porterhouse was a good size and cooked perfectly.
After two bottles of wine we were way to full for dessert but they looked great. A very enjoyable and successful evening.
Attention Meeting and Event Planners: Â This is not a good place to hold your dinner meeting. Â Corbett's is a bad restaurant for dinner meetings.
From the very first phone call where the woman answering the phone was rude to the moment I left, I had the worst experience at this restaurant. Â You want to think that when you put on dinner meetings all over the world, that Louisville, KY would have some of the nicest staff. Â Unfortunately, because of this Corbett's experience, my group will remember Louisville with having some of the world's rudest and smug management.
We booked this venue for a nursing educational meeting. We needed a private room with 4 walls with all seats having a full sight line of the video and speaker. Â We were spending several thousands of dollars on a Wednesday night.
Corbett's shoved us into the room that they use for private events. Â It is not private. Â There is not even a door on it to block it off from the foyer and bar. Â So the noise from the bar pumped into our meeting. Â No one could hear the speaker (which is why people came). Â Half the audience (there were 30 ppl) could not see the video and the worse part about it all was that the manager could have cared less when I expressed my concern.
We flew in speakers from Nebraska and Los Angeles for this and the managers only response to the room and the meeting being a total bust was, "well, was there anything that you did like about tonight?" Â He never sympathized, apologized, offered to fix it or offered anything to make it up. Â
Another troubling problem was that we were short $600 of our minimum of $3000. Â When one of the guests asked for a side of mushrooms to take home, the waitress responded, "well, these mushrooms are expensive" and tried to not serve us even though we still had a $600 credit. Â If this is confusing you, in a nutshell, they were trying to give us as little as possible so they could make the highest profit off of our group.
To be honest, the food was good, but that was not the purpose for the meeting. Â Many places all over town have good food. Â We spent over $3500 on 30ish people and we were treated poorly. Â I can't imagine how they treat you if you only spend $100. Â I do this for a living all over the world and I have already made sure that none of my pharmaceutical clients (or any clients) hold future dinner meetings here. Â It's just not worth the risk.

Great restored old house with lot's of charm. Amazing service, great ambience, very romantic dining.
We all (4) ordered the 5 course featured dinner of the evening.
Excellent presentation, preparation and portion sizes. Exploding flavors, nice midwest comfort food fusion. WOW!!
Worthwhile dining experience if you are Louisville or visiting.
I've been to Corbett's twice now for medical conferences and the food and service there is simply FANTASTIC. Of course, I've no idea how much it costs, but I am sure that whatever the price, it is worth every penny. Each time I've gone, I've had a five course meal, which is quite a lot of food when it all adds up, though each plate is only a-couple-of-bites sized. The staff is great; you could not ask for more polite and attentive waiters/waitresses. I also love the business casual atmosphere of Corbett's. It looks like a quaint little house from the outside and is just as charming on the inside. Outdoor seating looks lovely (weather permitting) though I've never gotten to enjoy the outdoor facilities due to the meetings. Now for food... I usually dislike seafood (I never eat crustaceans and snub my nose at most fish), but I have eaten every last bite of everything that has been served to me at this restaurant. During the five-course meal, the first dish is usually some sort of seafood appetizer. Once it was some sort of shrimp, and another time crab cakes, and like I said, I am stringent about never touching these things elsewhere, but I loved them at Corbett's. That's how good and non-fishy it was. Second course is the salad, and they also serve a variety of bread. My favorite is the cheesy bread (forgot the fancy name). Third course is a seafood entree, usually some sort of fish. Again, delicious. Fourth course is the steak. Here, I am going to make an incredulous claim, but I will say it nonetheless: Corbett's has the best steak!!! I've never been asked how I would like my steak cooked, but no matter, it is always a perfect medium, perfectly juicy, perfectly flavorful, and ...simply amazing. Now, I am the sort of person that will shamelessly ask for A1 to go with my steak if it is at all dry or lacking in flavor, much to the horror of my dining partners, but I've never felt the need to "enhance" at Corbett's. No, everything at Corbett's is perfect as served and I have no complaints, only praise and adoration. Finally, I must make an extra special mention about the dessert, because that's my number 1 rated dish at this restaurant. Whatever it is they are serving for dessert, it will blow you away; I have been blown away every time, and this is AFTER the amazing entrees and appetizers. After you are so full that you're about to bust at the seams, the dessert still trumps all, and that, my friends, is a sure sign of a winner.
Review Source:After reading all the wonderful reviews for this restaurant, I made reservations for Oaks night on Opentable. The chef/owner cancelled my reservation to my surprise without even calling me. Â He offered the outside tented patio area as a consolation as he had already given away my table....just bad customer service. Â Now I am stuck trying to find a nice place to eat on Oaks night...Hopefully his food offsets the way he runs his business. Â Because that is just cr*p.
Review Source:While in Louisville for a golf trip, we visited Corbett's for dinner. Â I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Â The building itself is a beautiful structure, a reworked 150+ year old home.
We were seated on the beautiful patio for a very pleasant outdoor dining experience.
What I like the best is their take on normal "American" food, adding some subtle and not so subtle twists.
I had the Prime Filet, which was very tender..easily cut with a butter knife.
All in all, I highly recommend Corbett's if you are anywhere near Louisville.
2 words: Spectacularly American
White table cloth dining elegance in a beautiful southern mansion. This could quite possibly be the most quaint yet lavish experience you could treat yourself with in Louisville. Â Forget Ruth's Chris, head straight for Corbett's.
When you think traditional American flavors - full of simple, less layered flavors but rich in creaminess and butter, then add on "soul" southern cooking, a la good portioned proteins, grits, and sweet potatoes, wrap it all up on beautiful plating... you end up with the wonderful cooking of Corbett.
The flavors are genuinely American so be prepared to expect savory sweet southern home-style and less in-your-face bold spices with punches that knock your socks off. Â Although I am more partial to ethnic foods and flavors, I did find my voyage to the Americas rewarding in its showcase of the something warm and comforting as if you were having a meal made by Julia Child.
Our party tried many dishes including: Shrimp & Grits, House Cured Salmon, Caprese, Pork Loin, Crab Cake, and Scallops. Â All-in-all everything was very delicious in taste and showed that Louisville isn't all that disadvantageous in seafood in the midwest -- I bet being the hub of UPS certainly helps. Â A few slight hesitations: the scallops were not as well seared as I like and the pork had a bit too much fat on top.
Unfortunately this place isn't without its negatives. Some included a terribly slow and inattentive waiter that felt biased towards us due to our younger appearance (even though we were dressed in business casual attire). Â Although this really brought down my overall excitement for the place, the restaurant's ambience and food quality far made up for the waiter's incompetence. Â I hope your table service far exceeds mine. In addition, the overall flavor pallet leans on the sweeter side - so if this isn't to your liking, you may not necessarily like these southern cooking.
Fine dining in L.A. - Louisville Area. Â Everything was excellent. Â We all did the 5 course tasting menu. Â Scallop on parmesan grits was one of the best scallops I have ever had (I lived for years in the SF Bay Area, etc.). Â Tenderloin was fork cutable. Â Need I say more? Â Everything was delicately flavored and great. Â Degustation in the 'ville. Â Beautiful restoration of the mansion. Â Reminds me of Plantation in Kaui, HI. Â Service was very friendly and attentive. Â We had reservations in the tent, but they kindly moved us indoors at our request due to wind.
Review Source:What can I say that Deborah E. did not already cover. Â I have dined here a couple of times and have been 100% satisfied. Â A great menu as well as an ever changing 5 and 9 course tasting menu. Â Great appetizers and main courses. Â I would love to dine here weekly but need to reserve my trips for special occasions and friends. Â Don't get me wrong, the food is worth the price and I will definitely return. Â I am constantly recommending this place to whoever will listen. Â Give it a try!!
Review Source:Last week, we drove to Louisville for our much-anticipated Big Chill weekend with my beloved Mich State friends. We all converged upon my friend Anne's lovely home and on Saturday she treated the four of us to a dining experience that will not soon be forgotten.
Allow me to copy Corbett's description from their website:
"Corbett's features an inventive menu and cutting-edge technology. Built in the historic Von Allmen mansion, which once housed Kentucky's first working dairy farm, Corbett's boasts a stunning interior design, a menu with the highest quality ingredients, extensive wine list, impressive artisanal cheese selection and an interactive digital chef's table.
Featuring American cuisine, the menu showcases the abundance of local purveyors as well as the best ingredients from around the world."
To summarize, the mansion is beautiful. Here we were - in the middle of what seemed a shopping mall area and suddenly we drive up to this old farmhouse, recently restored and updated. I felt like we had walked into a movie set! Â The lighting is soft, the greetings were warm, the atmosphere was welcoming.
Anne had booked a small room for the 5 of us which could be closed off by 2 sets of doors. Â And on the wall was a very large flat screen TV which showed the kitchen and all the chefs and assistants preparing the meals! Â Tres cool! Â Completely interactive, we could talk to them if we both turned on the sound and vice versa. Â More on this later...
We ordered martinis and wine and Anne's favorite server, Cesar, greeted us and proceeded to bring us some complimentary hors d'oeuvres including:  a tiny one bite ham and cheese salad with some infused oils; Lump Crab Cakes, Egg, Mustard, Cornichons, Lemon & Truffle Oil; and a Root Vegetable Napoleon, Mâche, Danish Blue, Minus 8 Vinegar & Walnuts  Tasty!
Corbetts currently has an autumnal menu and we proceeded to order:
the soup du jour - which on this particular day was a leek and potato soup.
For entrees, we tried:
- Salmon, Parsnips, Potato, Zuchini & Squash Gratin, Lobster Bisque
- Turkey Breast Mignon, Rillettes, Wild Rice & Parsnip Pudding,
Paris Kentucky Green Beans, Sauce Supreme
Both of these were fabulous. However, 3 out of the 5 of us ordered the Grouper, and that was all she wrote - Grouper, Hazelnut Crust, Pumpkin Risotto, Fall Vegetables,Bourbon-Vanilla Gastrique. Once I saw the words "Pumpkin Risotto," I was smitten. It had a surprisingly sweet taste - due to the addition of apple cider. Â Phenomenal!
Next - dessert. Â While the others ordered:
- the Plum Tart - Plum Tart, Fig & Frangipane, Honey, Earl Grey Ice Cream;
- Flourless Chocolate Torte with Pistachio Ice Cream, Blackberries;
- assorted homemade Ice Creams:
Chocolate Woodford
Pumpkin Spiced
Amarena Cherry & Yogurt
I ordered what I felt would be the highlight of my meal - and it was! -
Pumpkin pot d'creme........OMG........creamy and silky smooth, my taste buds were in hog heaven.......not too pumpkiny - just right.
Chef Corbett himself visited our table. Soon, we noticed the chefs had turned on their camera so they could see US and as their night slowed down a bit, they entertained us from the kitchen. One chef who is also musically inclined proceeded to turn his iPod on and serenade us with "Don't Stop Believin' " by Journey. We sang along and laughed uproariously.
A number of the chefs and assistants came out to talk to our table and we thanked them so much for this memorable gastronomique experience and Anne bought them a well-deserved round of drinks. Tres bon!
I cannot recommend this restaurant enough if you happen to find yourselves in Louisville. Simply marvelous!
