Although the service wasn't the most personal ever, our server was quick and pleasant. He took our order pretty quickly after we sat down and it was out in short order. The other staff were pleasant enough, and we had none of the problems others have mentioned about poor service if you're an out-of-tower or not a biker.
We were there about 8pm on a Saturday, so the place wasn't too busy. A couple of families as well as some hunting groups were there with us. Everyone seemed to get good service and to be enjoying their food.
We had a great experience here. Â The staff was very friendly and the food was fast and great. Â My husband had fish and chips which were great and I had the french dip with kettle chips. Â The sandwich was made with thick sliced roast beef and the kettle chips where really crispy. Â We also had hot chocolate which was really good. Â The salads there are also awesome. Â The only thing bad I could say is it was alittle expensive but there really isn't that much around to choose from and they are all kind of expensive. Â All in all it was a great place for dinner.
Review Source:HORRIBLE SERVICE. HORRIBLE. stopped in for breakfast on our way out after camping. Waited forever then the waitress came by, literally dropped the menus on the table and walked off. Lunch menus, not even breakfast menus. A while later came asked what we wanted to drink. A while later brought the drinks. Took our order......43 minutes later we got our food that was mediocre at. best. Food came right when we were getting ready to leave. There was a hair in my food. Nothing great to say about this place. If you are passing through, drive the 30 extra miles and eat some where by I5. I gave them one star only because zero is not an option. Very disappointing.
Review Source:I looked at my wife as we walked up to the door and thought we might be turning around to make PBJ sandwiches. The Sheriff's cruiser was parked there so I figured lets see how it looks inside. We were pleasantly surprised once we walked in the door. This is Cougar, WA people and there is not much happening there. The service, food and beer selection was great. We stayed down the street at Lone Fir resort and I can safely say that the Cougar Bar & Grill was the best part of our stay in Cougar.
Review Source:Although the cougar bar and grill doesn't look like much from the outside, the inside is clean and has good food. The waiter was super nice and the food came out super quick. We had the grilled cheese and kettle chips and it was tasty and hot. If you are coming through cougar and need some food, definitely eat at the cougar bar and grill.
Also, they have about 10 beers on tap, including two IPAs!
Technically it's pretty much the only place to eat in this town, but it was good, clean, and had friendly service!
I'm not sure if it was the day or what, but the service was AWFUL. The bartender ignored me for the longest time, then seemed annoyed that I was ordering anything. Someone should slap her and let her know her job IS CUSTOMER SERVICE. Since I was desperate for something to eat (my car was disabled), I sucked it up.
Fort George Vortex IPA on tap = AWESOME
4 Chicken tenders for cheap = hells yeah!
Note "Ladan R" had the same experience on the same day (5/5/2013). I'd like to give the bartender the benefit of the doubt that she had a bad day....
If you're from out of town (and not on a bike) be prepared from some pretty icy and rude service from the waitresses. Â I was waiting for about 10 min right in front of the bar and didn't get so much as a glance never mind actual attention. Â The food is pretty normal fried/ grilled american cuisine--nothing special though. Â
Pretty much the worse service I've experienced in the pacific NW.
My friends & I always go off road camping in Cougar. It's always a treat a to eat real food after a few nights of drinking & camping. I have always had great service, super friendly staff. The food is pretty good here. I have ate here so many times & never have i had a bad meal.
When I was younger my grandparents had a cabin in the little loop & we would eat pretty much breakfast, lunch, & dinner here almost every day. I know back then they made their own pies from scratch, don't know if they still do, but those were always the best!!
Stayed the night in Cougar on a trip to St. Helen. Really great staff, we called at 9:05 PM (they close at 9) and she kept the fryer on for us so we would have some carry out for dinner. Also stopped by for breakfast on Sunday morning, huge portions and good comfort food! Next time I'm in Cougar I'll look forward to stopping by this place.
Review Source:OK... for out in Cougar, WA.
You probably will have to eat here if you have been riding for hours, since there ain't much to offer here.
Iffy services, since I didn't dress like a biker, at first the servers didn't treat me nicely, but once they learned that we ride too... they were 50 times nicer! Â
Suggestion: if you drive here, just fake it till you make it, talk about motorcycle and stuff, you will have a better time here. ;)
Nice place to stop and take a break while riding the Portland Carson Cougar loop.
Fried chicken moist without being greasy, the best chicken strips I've had in a long while!!
I plan to stop in again and try some other items on the menu, the burgers other customers ordered looked tasty too!
The Cougar Bar & Grill is a great stop after playing the woods in the Cougar area. The log house dinning experience is perfect for the area. The beer selections are limited but classic. They even serve Rainier in the can!! A must if you want a flashback. The burgers are great and I'd suggest any of them doubled up. The service was good, the atmosphere was good, and the location was great. It's a must stop shop when passing through town.
Review Source:I stopped at this little place while enroute from Stevenson to points north on my motorcycle. Â It was a great place to stop and have breakfast and get in out of the soggy, cold weather for a few minutes. Â I had a cheese and bacon omlette with hot coffee. Â The eggs were cooked just the way I like them, well done and without the shimmering greasy coating you find at a lot of crummy restaurants. Â I left with a smile on my face.
Review Source:This is not your ordinary Cougar Bar... this one indeed has a real, dead, furry cougar pinned to the wall. Â Then again, maybe they all do.
The place is in an almost non-existent town in almost nowhere WA, and was a welcomed stop for me and 10 other very hungry travelers yesterday afternoon. Â The place is big on the inside, and small on the out. Â It has a biker bar exterior, but a mom-and-pop mountain town diner vibe on the in.
The fare is standard, and the prices are reasonably good for the middle of nowhere.
If you are looking for good eats, and are in the hood, this is the place to go. Â If you are looking for something else that a cougar bar would have to offer, well this too may be the place to go.
