I have been here before. Anyone who lives in the area or comes to the area has been here. The bar experience is good. Just locals or people waiting for tables. Good wings. I was never impressed with the dinners however.
We had an hour and I wanted to give it another shot this summer.
I'm not a huge fan of jacked up summer priced restaurants. Hence I'm not too thrilled with spending $50 just for lunch for 2 people.
The calamari was good, but greasy and as you can see from my posted picture, quite a small portion compared to other restaurants. For $13.99 you kind of expect a bigger portion. The crab cake sandwich was good but at $11.99, I can't say it's "reasonably" priced. A BIT high for a thin crab cake. But I stuck with something easy.
Same Crabs Claw locals/older atmosphere, nice waitress, good martini, just not a place I'll come back to again and again.

I'm a local so I know what to expect: nothing fancy, a little worn-in, but good food and good prices. I prefer their breakfasts at "on the side" to their actual dinners, and they do have great breakfast! I enjoy the laid back dive, and will always return for more.

B*tchen steamer pots!! Awesome place, I would avoid going there on Wednesday night when there is karaoke nothing worse than your great grandmother singer "thriller" by Michael Jackson. Great to see them singing, but not good on the ears.

Just a wonderful restaurant and bar with fantastic seafood and friendly people, staff and customers alike.  There is a real genuine Jersey Shore community feeling there.

This is one of my husband's and my favorite haunts when we are in the area, although this summer was too busy for us to visit.  I am a little concerned with some of the recent reviews I've seen, but I will refrain from comment on them until I make it back down the shore next summer.

Our favorite menu items are the spicy crab chowder and the Dungeness crab clusters.  Every now and then, my husband will also order a lobster.  The seafood has always been fresh and well prepared.  I love beer steamed crab and a generous helping of Old Bay seasoning.  It is our tradition to do lunch there, go to the beach, and come back to do dinner later (more of the same, please!).  We love the selection of beer on the menu and joined the club to try to earn little prizes or incentives for trying all of the different kinds.  It will probably take us well into our geriatric years to actually accomplish the feat, but hey, we make a little progress each summer, and we earned some pint glasses for drinking beer...something we'd have done anyway.

Funny story: One particularly gluttonous night, my husband ordered a second lobster.  The waitress, who was maybe in her late teens/early 20s, thought my husband was nuts.  She actually said "Seriously?" more than once.  Why question a customer who wants to drop more money?  She finally asked how he wanted it prepared, went through the whole line of questioning, and disappeared...never returning with his "dessert lobster."  Eventually, ages later, she brought the check.  We didn't get charged for it or anything, but if I was a waitress, I'd kick myself for forgetting a pricey menu item that could have calculated into a larger tip.  She punished herself.

Sometimes, the service is a little slow (even when it's not crazy busy), but I've found that the lunch staff is more diligent/attentive than the dinner staff.  We're pretty easy to please...just let us stuff our faces, drink our beer, and don't forget our dessert lobster.  :)

A over cooked salty meal that was about $300 for our table.  Nothing to get excited about.  But I have to say - if it's fast food and company you want then try it!

Wow, finally good beer has arrived. Bonus 1 Star for that....
The Claw has had a large list for many years, but it wasnt until summer 2012 that they actually got good beer. (there nothing great about macro crap beer in 100 different bottles)
Food, avoid at all costs. EXCEPT the Buffalo Calamari is best ever!!
Unfortunately this place is average at best but busy cause there aint many options.
If you like creativity and fresh, Labrador Lounge in your best bet.
The claw is a tourist trap for eating dinner- bad seafood at the beach.
Good for drinks, especially with the new brews!!

Seriously? Warm oysters that look like they had been hacked apart with a screw driver? "Sauteed" grouper that was breaded and fried and had no-flavor-what-so-ever under the rubbery mass of whatever that was on top. BTW, my water glass has been empty for 20mins, and these baked clams are half burnt. Also, why is the floor so sticky? Will the magician that performs upstairs make some garnish appear on the plates? Wow.

I visited Crab's Claw on a Tuesday night with two friends.  Although there was a wait (20min) for indoor seating, we were able to be seated right away in the outdoor area. Kudos to the large craft beer selection; However, most options were sold out. I had the watermelon mojito which was good - the mint, very fresh.

Your meal comes with bread (save room for your real food. Not worth trying)... and small salad (your average house salad). My friends ordered the buffalo shrimp salad while I tried to the flounder and scallops combo. The scallops were great but I really wish I could have switched my flounder for just about anything else. It was so-so.. and I shouldn't have so-so when our bill came to $100.

This was one of my favorite restaurants for a long time up until a few years ago when they changed things up and it seemed to be going downhill.  I'm happy to report that my recent visit to the Crab's Claw was more reminiscent of its former glory.

The service was excellent and so was the food.  The buffalo calamari is amazing.  Everyone I was with loved their meals, but my panko crusted grouper was too fried for my tastes....I would have preferred it more lightly fried.  Next time I will stick to crab, lobster, scallops, etc since that is truly what they do best.  I also had this incredible tropical drink (forget what it was called!).  Their menu is huge and it is tough to decide what to order because so many things look so good.  The prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food and the large portion sizes.  Expect to wait an hour or more most of the time, but we lucked out on a Sunday evening and got seated right away.  It's good to see they are back on track.

Went to the breakfast part of Crab's Claw Inn for a quick bite before hitting the beach.  We saw the special, "Jersey Benedict" and thought this was a no brainer.  Pork Roll - Yes please!

When the dish came out, the "poached" egg was hard as a rock.  Completely overcooked to the point where my yolk was green.

The waitress, frantic with the amount of tables she had (3) was too busy to come by and ask us if our food was OK.  Instead of wasting my lovely morning trying to get her attention, I just ate around the egg.  Finally when we did get her attention for the check, she asked if our food was OK.  My husband politely said "it was overcooked" and the waitress said "oh good" and rushes off.  She obviously wasn't even listening to him.

Would never waste my time here again!

Cute place with good food but be prepared......

most of the patrons are 107 and older (not that I have anything against people who are 107 and older)

I felt like I was eating in the dining room of an assisted living facility.

yuck! we go hear a few times a year when we are down the shore...since the food is usually decent (never fabulous) last night however it was DISGUSTING! The lobster was old and didn't even crack...and the meat was old and stale tasting. The crab dip was extremely fishy and old...all in all it was the worst meal I have had down the shore..and that is saying a lot. Skip it!

It pains me to review this place with only two stars because it is a huge part of some of my fondest childhood memories.  The Crabs Claw in was the spot down at the jersey sure during the 90's and the line around the block was proof.  Me and my family would wait for hours just to get a seat and eat the lobster and crabs and every other seafood you can imagine.  Mind you I was all of 3 or 4 so my parents were smart and started me young on the good stuff.

Unfortunately those memories are a thing of the past, the line is rarely if ever there and they are for sure no longer the spot for seafood down the shore.  They consistently serve bad food every time I go.  Shrimp that are dry, Lobster that is so overcooked its inedible, steamer clams that taste like they've been dead for weeks and the list goes on and on.

Although my last visit there was a glimmer of hope in the lobster bisque which is definitely a new recipe because it was great.  A huge steaming bowl of creamy lobster bisque with a touch of sherry and a whole claw smack in the middle.  Also the oysters were pretty good and at a buck a piece you can't go wrong.

All in all I think this place is surviving on nostalgia of people (me included) that remember how good it was and can't bear to believe how bad they've gotten, that and the bar crowd.  So if your looking for a cheap beer and few oysters or a bowl of bisque by all means head on in, but if your looking for a great seafood restaurant try somewhere else.

7.7.12 - So a little update to this one after another try.  I have to say after sitting up at the WV bar I have completey changed my opinion of this place.  If you are going to go make sure you make your way upstairs and visit Tom because I can't recall a better bartender in recent memory.  Makes you feel like just a buddy drinking at his place (he even asked us if we had any music requests for the pandora radio he was running off his phone).  Also the bar food at this place (which I had never tried before) is simply great.  Wings that were huge and crispy with an interesting sweet yet spicy wing sauce were stellar, a dozen oysters that you could tell were as fresh as you could get and the steamed cherrystones in white wine were perfectly cooked and super super fresh.  All in all if you are going to go to the claw the upstairs bar is a must and tell Tom I say hi.

I don't know about you - but I love the shore in the winter time, when you can say "PEACE" to the crowds, and get to one of your old favorite spots and just kick it... not have to worry if some steak neck is going to think your boyfriend purposely knocked into him on his way to the bathroom, slipped & stepped on his puma.

There's a lot of Jersey shore trashy spots that I love & I avoid .... I love to come here in the summer and the winter.  Two totally different feels, but equally as good.  Summer, crowded, bennies everywhere, you're fighting for your seat, but at least the bennies are 30+ and not 19+, looking for a fight.  Winter, dead, but fills up quickly with locals and bar flies.  My dad used to sneak me Tequila sunrises here when I was under age.  Thanks pop... I guess we fell under the "ex-locals, look like bennies, act like regulars".

Food is GOOD - Real good.  Recommend sitting at the bar, they have a nice pour and the drink specials are usually right on.   If you come early enough, the lunch specials are the way to go -- it can get a bit pricey during the dinner hours, not outrageous, just look to drop a quick hundo for appetizers + dinner + drinks for two.

Fish + chips are amazing.  So are the clams and mussels.  Delicious.

Love the Mimosas for brunch... fresh squeezed orange juice, it just doesn't get any better.  Boyfriend and his pals got the bloodies... they were very spicy, lots of horseradish (which they like) and..a splash of Guinness?  Mmm, my goodness...!

I stop in here from time to time when I'm visiting my parents in Seaside Park (right up the road). Dad loves the food, and I can see why! Everything is always delicious -- I'm partial to the crab cakes. My parents go there often enough that they are friendly with all the staff and get choice seating (usually at the bar so dad can watch sports)

Nice, cozy place with good food :)

I spent much of the week prior to my visit to the Crab's Claw scouring Yelp for a restaurant in the Toms River/Seaside area.  An old friend and I had been threatening to get together every summer for the last five years, and, once I had a week-long gig in Manahawkin, we decided to split the difference between us and meet at the Crab's Claw.  For the two of us, it was the perfect choice, and, as soon as I walked through the door, I knew it.

If you're looking for quiet and romantic, go elsewhere.  (Frankly, if you're looking for quiet and romantic, I would suggest getting the hell out of Seaside, altogether.)  This place is loud.  Since the two of us hadn't seen each other in over a decade, and we weren't exactly the quietest people in the room to begin with, it was perfect.  It's a bar atmosphere, with everything that goes along with it.  You're packed in like sardines here, but we made lots of friends with our neighbors.

If you're looking for top-notch service and fine dining, go elsewhere.  Cindy, our server, was certainly competent, but her personality was better than her service.  Had to ask for waters twice.  During the meal, we got up to go outside for a cigarette.  We told Cindy, but when we'd returned, our busboy Dylan had cleared the table: including her full glass of wine and my three remaining steamers.  Honestly, Cindy was more annoyed about it than we were.  The way I look at it, the kid just did his job a little too well....

If you're looking for outstanding food, go elsewhere.  The food at the Crab's Claw wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, but I've had better.  I was unfamiliar with the species of clam in the steamers, but they were tasty.  My guest's crab cake appetizer was quite good, and the remulade served with it was the highlight of the meal.  The Lobster Bisque was very tomato-y, and, unlike another reviewer, I could taste the sherry.  The meat, however, was rubbery.  At $11, though, ridiculously overpriced.  Her Seafood Chowder, while not what she ordered, was quite good.  My guest enjoyed her Buffalo Calamari Salad, and my Seafood a la Vodka (on special) was okay.  The sauce was reminiscent of the Lobster Bisque, but the seafood -- lobster, HUGE scallops, medium shrimp -- was much better.  However, as much as I love sundried tomatoes, I think the chef went a little overboard with them.  The portions are a good size, though: I'm a pretty big guy and hadn't eaten since breakfast and couldn't finish my entree.

If you're looking for a good time with a great atmosphere, the Crab Claw's your place.  Service and food only okay, but I had a great night and would do it again.

PS: One other reviewer mentioned the size of the bathrooms.  She's right; they're small.  But, really, if you're going to a restaurant for the bathrooms, perhaps their small size isn't your biggest problem.

I wish I could have a house by the shore for this restaurant only. Screw the beach, the seaside heights strip etc etc., this place is really awesome. My friends and I came here during our trip on the Jersey shore and well, without many choices for a nice sit-down restaurant, we opted for this. So glad we did.

I ordered the Shrimp and Scallop Alfredo. Delicious. (4/5). This meal was one of the best I've ever had. It would have been the #1 best however the broccoli wasn't really good and the mushrooms kind of ruined it. The tastes and textures didn't blend. The scallops were perfectly cooked. I live in the Bronx in NY and very close to City Island and I've had scallops all over there and other places. This was the best. The shrimp was incredible.

On to my friend's Buffalo shrimp.... it was great!  I tried the steak from the Surf n Turf my friend ordered. It was not that great but hey- it wasn't a part of my experience. My friend's shrimp was great too. I forgot what she ordered but she loved it. I was told by the other 3 people I was with that their meals were good too. Mine was absolutely fresh.(5/5 for freshness of the food).

They had live music and though I didn't get to enjoy it because I was leaving during their first performance, they were pretty good. I love a place with live music. (5/5 for atmosphere).

The service was great too. I do see why it took a bit longer than the other table of friends who were there.

The wait wasn't long. It was disappointing that the seating outside wasn't accommodated because of the wait. The wait inside was shorter than they initially said. They couldn't accommodate 7 people together so we split 4/3.  (4/5).

All-in-all, I would come back for the food here. I cannot wait.

    Crab's Claw, Crab's Claw, Crab's Claw.

Okay, I've definitely spent enough time inside this establishment to finally get a review up here. First of all, sit at the bar (if you can) Ask your bartender if you can join the 99 club.  Go early, before the dinner rush.  All of the bartenders are great and will be really attentive to you (unless you're a jerk)  Not into beer? order a "Vox Squeeze" (fresh squeezed OJ + vox vodka) or a martini (bartenders who actually know what a real martini is.. can you imagine?)  Wednesday nights are Karaoke and most other nights they have live music.  The music is hit or miss, Big Baby Ernie is a solid choice (Sunday nights in the summer) - If the music is too much, check to see if the upstairs bar is open.  It is fun there too.   Oh yeah, the bleu cheese dressing.  Get that, too.

First and foremost, 5 of us had a wait time of 10 minutes, so we decided to get drinks at the bar. 4 landsharks and one screw driver cost $20...my screw driver was made with freshly squeezed oranges and was quite strong. Automatic 3 stars.

Onto the food: the tuna nachos were amazing, as well as the seafood platter, called the something 'adventure'...I'd definitely order anything off the menu of the non-fried seafood persuasion

Also, Megan was a great waitress, ask to be served by her!

This was my 3rd visit to Crab's Claw.  Friends kept singing its praises so I thought I must have caught them at bad times previously--weekday lunch, dinner in December (decidedly off-season)--so thought I'd give them a 3rd try.  It was their 3rd strike.

Service was abominable.  We waited 10 minutes for the hostess to show up (she was out front, smoking) and were seated at the table by the wait station.  Our server, Brian, showed up quickly enough, but once the entrees were served, he completely disappeared for the rest of the meal.  All the while, the staff slammed and banged every drawer & cabinet behind us.  Meanwhile, a singer caterwauled, "I Think I Love You".  I've heard better karaoke.

We'd been seated for 30 minutes before the entrees arrived.  I had ordered the snow crab legs ($26.99) and my husband had ordered the prime rib special, rare (unsure of price).  His steak arrived medium-rare and ridiculously salty, served with cold french fries.  I had a decent portion of crab but it had obviously been frozen previously.  Very difficult to get at the meat (ever try snapping a frozen crab leg?  It's soggy and will just bend).  My crab was marginally okay & husband's steak was edible, so we admitted defeat and tucked in.

Atmosphere:  Noisy, but acceptable for a bar (which I suppose is their main thrust)
Service: Awful.  10-minute wait to be seated while hostess finished her cigarette, 30+-minute wait to be served after giving our order, and no check-in during the meal.
Price:  Overpriced for the quality.  Seriously--I could have had the same exact portion at Spike's for $5 less and it would have been FRESH crab, not frozen.

D- rating.  Unless you're adamant about going to a bar that lets you nosh on seafood, skip this place.   If you just want good seafood, go to Spike's.

Super fun bar known for their friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Local dwelling relatives of mine frequent this place often.
Been there a few times to enjoy some cold ones and watch happy folks bust out their vocal chops on the karaoke and dance around with abandon.
Popular place that has live bands some nights too.

We went Friday night and sat at the bar. Big beer menu but they didn't have my first choice. I ordered seafood chowder and it was cold, then I had calamari that was so tough and rubbery it was not edible. $30 for this? I won't be back. It's winter now so no excuse for poor food.

Short version - Food good, service friendly and adequate. You may have to wait a bit if you go at prime time (7ish) during the summer season. Open all year round. Not over price/Average for a local summer joint . If you are a seafood/spice lover go for the seafood fra diavlo(not sure of the spelling) but, it's yummy! I had enough left over to feed me and my niece the next day!

Long version: Now this is why I give it four stars. I've been going to the crab's claw for over 10 years. It has it's own little personality that as a summer benny or local you just luv. Kinda feels like a cheers. With live entertainment from Tues - Sunday. Friday night 4pm happy hour w/ piano playing to Wed. night karaoke (which happens to be my all time favorite) Everyone gets in on this fun.. Even the waitresses!! What makes it tops is the fact you can walk off the beach, flip flops, sand, wind blown hair and all..plop right down for a frozen fruity concoction without anyone looking at you sideways!! What more can you ask for after a hard day of tanning. Nothing better then wrapping up the day at the Crabs Claw...if you read this far THANKS for reading :-)

Went here for drinks and lunch on a Sunday early afternoon.

The bar was pretty quiet, but it was only about 10:00 when I got there. 3.50 pints of mimosas are good by me. I also suplemented that with a st germaine fizz which was also very good. The bartender was very nice. I was joined a little later by another 5 people and we were all able to get seats at the bar. I had the waffle fries and grilled cheese with american cheese and taylor ham. Both were delicious. Left over fries were great in the toaster oven too. Some others in the group got some crazy drink in a bucket. Little too sweet for my taste, but the girls were putting it away pretty good. Prices were pretty reasonable, drinks were all good. Would come back for dinner (comes highly recomended for dinner).

Things to know, there is a 15$ min on credit cards an they start serving food inside at 11:30.

Would go again and will recomend to others.

    Crabs Claw Lavallette, NJ

What can you ask for out of a Seaside Bar / Restaurant establishment especially one that derives its name from the Sea? You want good quality seafood, a vibrant bar scene, perhaps some entertainment to be thrown in. Ok I would be happy with the good seafood, but instead you get all three of the aforementioned with this hardly an unknown gem as this place seems to be packed 7 days a week in season and I'm sure that its quite crowded off season with the locals as well.

It is your standard layout for this type of place with a large bar area with booths and tables scattered on both sides of the band area / dance floor (More on that later).  On a Wednesday night at 7PM the wait was about 30 minutes for 2 persons, and as we worked our way to the 3 deep at the bar we landed two prime seats inside of 5 minutes as they seemed to be moving the diners to their tables rather quickly. Being just myself and mi amigo, we settled on eating dinner at the bar as their flat screen TV's offered a good view of the Yankees game.

The barmen were on top of things with so many beers to choose from it was well difficult. They seemed by watching them work their magic they knew many a customer and their liquor pours were generous no matter who they were serving.  A different person took the food order & Dustin was on top of things as well. After reviewing the menu for the various appetizers and fish entrees & specials, it became more and more difficult to make a decision as it was diverse and everything looked great. Dustin suggested the special which was Lobster Tails Franchaise over angel hair pasta with a side salad for $29.99. He also suggested the house special sauté of scallops, & shrimp over penne with broccoli, and a pink sauce also with a salad for $24.99.

Salad recommendation was the house dressing which was some sort of Balsamic thing combined with Fresh Blue Cheese crumbles. Bottom line salad was fantastic.  Entrees arrived and I was overwhelmed. 3 Good size lobster tails split into 6 pieces deshelled with a light batter of egg in a very nice sauce that was not to heavy. Pasta was slightly overcooked but with this tremendous fish on top this was a don't miss dish.  The second platter of scallops and shrimp were equal to the task as they were fresh, sauce tasty and either one of these would be ordered again.

We stayed on for a few hours listening to a great band doing 70's 80's hits while the crowd changed to a more drinking older crowd. Bottom line had a great night, great fish, great experience and there is no question this will be a repeat on my next visit to the Jersey shore.

I have been coming here for a longggggg time. Whenever my family and I come to the beach, we come here. The service is always very friendly, but a tad bit slow. Their food is always pretty good and they have a full bar. It's also in a great location. After you're done with you rmeal, walk down through the parking lot for a midnight stroll down the beach. Anyway, this place also has speacial nights like Karoke or Live Music Night. Bathrooms are a little small though, but I think most people will get over that. Great place to go down the Jersey Shore.

This has to be one of the most over rated restaurants at the shore. It's cramped and dirty, and the food is average at best. In fact, the only consistent dish they serve is their crab soup. I'll admit, it's very good.

However, that's it. Everything else I've tried is right out of Long John Silver. I've taken it off my "visit" list. They won't miss me though; it's in an area with few dining choices, so it's always full. Long waits unless you are willing to sit at the bar.

I went back to the Crab's Claw Inn with absolute hesitation after my last  visit to this establishment because I honestly believe that every restaurant deserves 2 tries.... this is one of those times where I wish I hadn't.

Skip to the end for the short of it if you are not the reading type.

The only difference here was that the service was a touch better than last time.  The server was a bit more attentive though she forgot a few things here and there, I would imagine I would feel the same way with the chaos in there.

My dining partner and I ordered dishes that covered various types of seafood....

    Appetizer:
Buffalo Shrimp AND Buffalo Calamari.  T
he sauce was nice and flavorful - and i believe the intense sauce is what made it impossible to taste even the slightest off flavor of the squid or shrimp.. This one.. was OK in my book, but if you are near a Surf Taco, their buffalo calamari is far better.

    Dinner:
My dining parter ordered a dish with fried shrimp, crabcake, fried scallop, and fried flounder.   I had the shrimp and flounder platter.

everything I've said before about the seafood... bad, bad, bad.. OLD.. the Shrimp were not all deveined (and these were very large Shrimp...  that should have the digestive tract removed) . In addition to tasting either old or reheated in the microwave, the rest of the seafood was just as bad.  The ONLY edible dish was the fried flounder (also on my plate). I imagine this was the case because the flounder is locally caught and readily available.

The meals also came with salad - (iceburg lettuce base - which would have been fine if they kept the lettuce in a cool place and dry so it wouldn't be wilted or have brown spots.

We also had the Manhattan Clam Chowder (not bad - but tastes a bit like Campbell's still) and the Spicy Crab Soup  -which is essentially the Manhattan Clam Chowder with crab meat.

    New Review:

    The BATHROOMS.... are ridiculously small.
There is 1 sink between 2 stalls and the door swings open to crush the constant line (generally made up of 2 people bc that is all that can fit) and no ventilation makes the bathroom SMELL like FECES which can immediately stamp out any hunger you might have had....(and it is NOT from diapers)

The picture that i added is from our meal... we didnt even eat our plates.... we left it all and asked for the check because it was so bad and not worth taking.

    CONCLUSION:

    1. A seafood restaurant SHOULD know how to make seafood and serve it FRESH

    2. The BATHROOMS are TINY and SMELL because they do not have enough circulation

    3.  I would never recommend this place to anyone who wants to have great seafood.

the only positives:  In a nice location...

I have been to this restaurant twice, once in September 09 and March 10, and I am definitely a fan.  For my first visit, went on a stormy night and the place was packed.  The boyfriend has been coming here ever since he was little so he really raved about this place.  We both love and are very passionate about our food, so I know it had to be excellent.  We decided to sit at the bar, which was just shy of being packed.  The bartenders were awesome and the bar had an impressive beer list of "99" beers.  You can actually join the beer club.  We ordered steamed mussels and fried squid for appetizers and dinner consisted of blackened Mahi Mahi and Dover Sol.  All was amazing and fresh.   For dessert, we had pumpkin chessecake and cappuccinos.

Second visit was the day of the St. Patrick's Day Parade and the place was mobbed as well.  However, we only had to wait 10 minutes.  We ordered a medley of seafood...mussels, oysters, shrimp, blackened ahi tuna bites and all was super fresh and so delicious.  The service was exceptional and efficient.  I highly recommend this place if you are in the jersey shore area.  Order the seafood!

If you are at the jersey shore then you have to see the crabs claw. I had a  jersey burger with cheese and sampled the beer list from heaven known as the 99 beer list. If you go to Lavallette and don't stop at the claw then you are missing out..  Btw not a place for the little kiddies this is a big peoples restaurant. Enjoy !!!!!

DISCLAIMER: I have been coming here with my parents who are regulars for 15 years and have become quite good friends with the owners, but don't let that dilute my opinion.

This place always provides 4-star food on a 3-star budget with 5-star company. They have live music regularly which just oozes Jersey Shore and a beer list that would render most Belgian men impotent.

Everyone here wants to be your friend and why not let them?

The Good, the bad, and the ugly. All present at the Crab Claw.

But enough of my friends, what about the food?

I like the decor and the and patio-feel of the dining area at the back of the bar-like front. Good.

We ordered cocktails from the great list. Except me. I ordered whiskey sour. Which the waitress had me say twice. Before coming back ten minutes later to claim she neither heard what I said nor know what a whiskey sour was. Bad.

Another ten minutes and it arrives. Another ten minutes and it's spilled on me by the poor girl. Ugly. (the situation, not her)

We ordered the peel-yourself-shrimp for starters and they were yummy, accompanied by equally tasty sauces. Good.

I then ordered fish and chips, curious to see how good such a traditional English dish was on the Jersey Shore. She asked if I wanted potato or fries with that. Bad.

I was also asked if I wanted salad or coleslaw with my main. I chose coleslaw. It came in a bowl as a starter. Ugly.

The fish and chips came and it was awesome. There were five pieces of fish FIVE! And the chips, or fries or whatever, were also very Good.

Three goods. Three stars. Too many mishaps for any more. Sorry.

Probably the best seafood restaurant I have been to. The Buffalo Calamari is excellent as well as the Firecracker Shrimp and Shrimp or Lobster Francaise. The 99 Beer menu doesn't hurt either.

Just make sure to be able to put up with a wait. Reservations are not accepted.

I have to agree with Alexis.  This place is a wonderful Jersey Shore beach restaurant. Prices are moderate, service is quick and friendly.  We have been there maybe a dozen times and always enjoyed the food.  I like their fish and chips but they make pretty good burgers too.  Big selection of beers, several of which are on tap.  Decor is a bit dated but I can overlook that given the whole experience. Very casual place.

Every visit to my Grandma on the shore involved the Crab's Claw.  She and my grandfather would go there every Saturday for lunch and so we do too.  It really is a great restaurant with simple sea food and a ton of draught beers.
I ordered the monkfish which came with a bland salad [clearly from bag] and a great cup of Manhattan clam chowder.  Married to a New Englander, I buy to Manhattan chowder whenever I can.  The monkfish was lightly battered and cooked in butter, lemon, and capers. Very simple and tasty.
My grandmother's flounder was, I hear, also excellent.
We sat on the patio which doesn't give much of a view but it is very bright.
I noticed on this trip that the china has been updated and it is kind of chic.  I hope they finish off the set.
If you're on this little stirp of land fighting the bay and the beach to exist, you should stop by here for a proper lunch or dinner.

I can't believe no one has reviewed the Claw! The ultimate townie bar in the heart of LAVA. This place is an institution and features a huge selection of beers on tap, great apps, fresh seafood, happy hour, and a fun atmosphere. The decor leaves something to be desired yet is beachy and casually - I love it.

Before I was a vegetarian, I LOVED the buffalo shrimp, so try that if you go! The Claw features trivia, karaoke, and in the winter - a hilarious New Years Eve party.
