So, I was staying in a small town outside of houston for work, and it was crawfish season.  But, sadly, there were no restaurants serving crawfish in the town I was staying.  So what did I do?  I drove. Forty-five minutes to be precise.  And boy was it worth it.  This place is kind of amazing.  You can order crawfish by the pound, and even pick how many pieces of potato and corn you want. They also had crabs and, if my memory serves me correctly, shrimp.  You can even customize the spice levels of your orders.

It is BYOB-- but, it looked like they had coolers for people to put their beer in, so that kind of makes it even better.  My only regret was that because I was in Texas alone on business, I was not with a group.  This would be the perfect place for a big group of friends to go and share some beer, crabs, and crawfish.  I only hope that one day I have the opportunity to do just that.

Crawfish come a runnin to this spot.

Went on a Friday evening with a friend. It was kinda late so it wasn't too packed.
It's really open so if you go on a cool night, bring a jacket.

You seat yourself and the menu is on the napkin dispenser.

Our waiter came over and gave us the specials. It sounded good - 2 lbs of crawfish, 1 lb of shrimp and corn and potatoes. For 2.50 more we also got a sausage link. Its' BYOB so my friend made a quick run to the store and got us a 6 pack of Dos Equis. They do provide an ice chest with ice if needed. I think they have water, sodas, etc for purchase.

The food came out and it was delish. We ordered spicy and they were perfect. As it was getting close to quitting time, my friend still wanted more and ordered 2 lbs of crawfish to go.

Environment - they have TVs so we were able to catch the Rocket's game and there is a play area for kids - pretty cool.

My only realy issue is the restroom situation. It's literally smack dab in the middle of the restaurant and it's a single - one side for men and one for women. And it opens up to the eating area.

Let me say again, the crawfish was delish and our bill was under $40. The cost per lb is $4.95 which is reasonable esp since the crawfish were a fairly good size.

Two thumbs up. Will definitely hit this spot up again.

We usually buy & cook our own crawfish but that requires alot of work & advanced planning. This place is great for a spur of the moment gathering of friends for drinks & good crawfish.
I was worried the crawfish might be small this late in the season but they were perfect. The medium is plenty spicy. you can add your own spice at the table.
We also had the shrimp & it was tasty as well.
Of course, like everyone else, the BYOB is the best part.  poeple & we ate & drank what would have cost well over $100 elsewhere for $55. can't beat it.
    The service was great.
Get there early or plan on a wait. another good thing about the BYOB. you can drink from your own cooler while you wait.
Wealways have a good time at Crawfis Shack.

I know I know..they are known for great spicy crawfish..well I don't dare try them! Ask my sister and my daughter..I run like a little girl! lol

I had their red beans and rice, not too bad but it wasn't the best either.  Now my daughter ate her first 2lbs of the Meaux Spicy crawfish and loved it!

The place is very casual and laid back, which I like.  The BYOB is a great thing too!

I got to give this place a full 5 stars! I'm crazy about crawfish and this place definitely satiatied my craving! I went with my family this weekend and although it is out of the Houston city limits, it was definitely worth the drive. We ordered 8 pounds or crawfish with the meaux spicy mix. It was deliciousness from start to finish. There was a good mix of large crawfish, with large claws. We also tried the shrimp which was also good. This place is byob, they have a large seating full of picnic tables, service is fast and good. I have to say that I'm hooked!

If you're looking for great crawfish, look no further.  The Meaux family has the recipe down- it keeps me coming back just about every Sunday during crawfish season, and craving it during the off season.

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! Where have you been all my life?!!!
Yelpers have been praising this place for years but I am insanely addicted to Asian style crawfish so I just kept dismissing it. I mean- Boiling Crab was perfect for me, close to home & so much flavor...why fix what is not broken? Plus-- who the hell wants to drive an hour for food?
2 weeks ago- hubby and I wanted to go for a drive cause the day was beautiful with the sun shining. I just scan Yelp for places with outdoor eating and remembered this place. I figured - WTH let me see what all this fuss is about. 7 pounds later- I am Crawfish Shack junkie!!!
Their crawfish is very similar to Asian style (without all the sodium as Boiling Crab), the size are huge (and the season is just now starting), and it alot of flavor not just spicy. I ordered garlic butter and tossed it with the crawfish before eating- highly recommend! Mushrooms- get them!
Isn't serving the best tasting crawfish in Texas enough?! Nope! Not here! They are BYOB AND the customer service is GREAT!

    Tips:
-Get there early- the wait is long and they run out sometimes.
    - Playground for the kids
    -Nice new parking lot.
    -Drive thru for To-Go orders.

Crawfish Shack is GREAT and worth the wait out the door.   Love to hang-out with friends and let the kiddos have fun on the playground.  My husband gets the Crawfish, but I LOVE their Crab legs.  The owners and staff are friendly and everyone leaves with a smile on their face.

BYOB.... Outside but covered seating with a playground to occupy children if necessary.  There was a bit of a wait but the were efficient and worth it. Today was their last day of the season so I was unable to try the chicken and sausage gumbo. Crawfish was good. Got the meaux spicy. I was very satisfied. I usually have to dip my crawfish in extra seasoning because the seasoning is heavily battered on the outside. Not necessary with this spot. Go try it out!

Pure awesomeness and pure crawfish-ness!!! LOL, yeah I just made that word up.. report me!!

Loved this place. Their crawfish was really tasty and super spicy! I believe the price was about $4.95 per pound. We got there early and there was no line, but I hear the lines get super long. I ordered a gumbo as well, but didn't really love it. Service was good and although it is outdoors (kind of) there was an awesome breeze coming in. You can bring your own beer or wine, so take advantage!! Definitely recommend, go have some mudbugs! lol

Crawfish shack is freaking good for traditional style crawfish.

I have ate crawfish on all parts of the Houston & surrounding areas and they take the cake.I have very few 5 star reviews and this is one of them.

Come early because the lines get longer than a parade.I personally order Meaux spicy which is the hottest.Their prices are always good and I have seen them as low as $4 a pound while other place charge $7-7.50 a lb.

Again this place is traditional recipe unlike the Asian style that was garlic bits mixed in and all that, like boiling crab and such.I will still take Crawfish Shack over those places.

I came here around noon on a Saturday for lunch.  No wait at all.  As others have said, it is a bit far from the center of town, it just depends how willing you are to drive for crawfish.

I'd say these were some well-seasoned crawfish.  My husband, sister and I ordered 10 lb ($45!) to split between the three of us.  Medium spicy (because the spice can build up).  Next time I'd probably go for a bit spicier though...the spices, while tasty, were not hot enough for our tastes.

We added on the potatoes, corn, mushrooms and sausage.  The potatoes and mushrooms were great, no complaints there.  I'd probably pass on the sausage next time, but the others liked it.  It was a jalapeno sausage and had lots of flavor.  However, the corn was really overcooked or undercooked.  Some pieces were hard and crunchy, others were soft and mushy.  Which brings me to the main reason for the A-OK review...the crawfish were a bit overcooked as well.  You can tell when the meat kinda sticks to the shell.

The waitresses are hard to get ahold of, even at slower times.  You might want to catch their attention while you can to ensure that you have a filled drink.

Bottom line, I wanted to like them because the seasoning was tasty and the price was great, but I might check out some other places before coming back.  The fact that others haven't experienced them being overcooked makes me optimistic.  All I'd say is good luck!

This place totally hits the spot for good old fashion boiled crawfish and lines outside the building proves it. It's more of a pavilion with picnic tables so don't expect anything fancy. A nice perk is that they did have a playground for the kiddos to get tired out on.

My friend and & I got there a little before noon on a Saturday and luckily we went straight in and got a table. The server was friendly and prompt.

It is byob so we saw plenty of tables with coolers. We'd ordered the spicy crawfish with corn, mushrooms, and potatoes, and sausage on the side. The spicy crawfish was so GOOD! It was spicy and the meat was well marinaded and juicy. It definitely lived up to its expectations. The prices were great too. We left paying less then $40 between 2 people with a generous tip.

Luckily we didn't stand in line, but if I had to wait a little I don't think I would mind at all.

A fat gal's dream!!! I left this place stuffed and happy. I was seriously scared that I wouldn't be able to get up from the picnic table we were sitting at. I'm not a huge crawfish fan, but I tried my friend's and loved it.

I went for the shrimp...nothing less than a fiesta in my mouth :) I got them the spiciest possible and was very satisfied. The roof of my mouth started burning, so they did the job. I ordered a lb of shrimp, some shrooms, and red beans and rice. It was all muy muy delicioso!!!

This little gem is a place for alllll types of people. You ever notice how some random things bring everyone together? Crawfish is one of them. A harmonious mixture of people from all different backgrounds eating delicious mud bugs and whatnot together...such a beautiful thing. The Crawfish Shack is a place to take your family, boyfriend/girlfriend, co-workers, sancho(a), baby's daddy/mama, town drunk, etc. I will definitely be back.

The food is good, and its nice that the Shack is BYOB, but the service staff is very poor!   We went last Sunday, and the place was packed, and our crawfish did arrive warm.   Normally the food is hot, but the last couple of times its just not been up to standards.   They need to retrain the wait staff, and let them know that the better service you give the better tip you receive.

I live in the city, but I'm happy to make the 45 minute drive out to Crosby for the Crawfish Shack during the season.

Their menu is small but they serve some of the best crayfish and cajun side dishes I have ever had.  I usually go for 3-5 lbs. of crayfish with some sides.  The mushrooms are delicious.  Don't forget to try them!  The crawfish etouffee is tasty too.

Their staff is top-notch and friendly.  Our first visit, the waitress let us try some sides for free.  She made us feel very welcome.  There's also ample parking.  (The owner just bought an extra lot in the back.)

My wife doesn't like the process of eating crayfish but she also loves this place.  I think it's because of the outdoor atmosphere and crowd which is sort of a small town Texas just outside of the swamp vibe.  She also likes the BYOB.. maybe a little too much.  By the end of our meal, she's playing with my crayfish like they're action figures.. taking pictures of them doing battle.

The Crawfish Shack has the total package!!!

Located in the country with a covered breezy large outdoor seating area w/ceiling fans.

Fresh sweet crawfish slightly firm - no mushy lil babies here. Med, Spicy or Meaux Spicy (the best!!! - rich dipping broth in bottom of bowl). Went 3/26 already good medium size tails, a few larger. Meat in the claws.

Serve large crab legs, boiled shrimp, gumbo and etoufee all incredibly yummy looking and delish per friends.

The freshest red potato I've ever eaten. Absolute mouthful of slightly sweet buttery freshness. I could give up french fries forever for these delectable garden goodies.

Corn on the cob is a real half served with melted butter in a saucer if you request.

Freakin little mushrooms explode in you mouth with a spicy kick within a couple seconds of devouring one. Try these - no regrets.

BYOB - Oh Yah. Bring your fav's in your ice chest or they'll provide ice buckets.

    Pleasant friendly waitstaff.

Crawfish $5.95 a lb. Customize your order with corn, potatoes, mushrooms or sausage available at a small extra charge.

    Playground for the kidos.

I could easily eat here twice a week during crawfish season.  That's how much I enjoyed it.

Personally don't recommend the medium spicy crawfish. Same great quality but not enough heat or spice.  Sausage is tasty but somewhat fatty.

When I go to places like the Crawfish Shack, it makes me happy to live OTL! Why you ask?

So I can get here faster!

I recently put together a UYE at the Shack and the owners and staff were awesome with providing me info prior to the UYE on their BYOB policy. Mr. & Mrs. Meaux know what they're doing and do it well! They offer a limited menu, but still have everything I would want - crawfish, shrimp, crab, gumbo and etoufee!

I arrived a little early since the weather was so nice and wanted to snag enough tables for our crew. At around noon I had my choice of seating, but it didn't take long for cars and monster trucks to start pulling in. The locals are loyal fans of the Shack and never fail to show up on a beautiful day. The waiter for our section, Jed was super nice, efficient and kept the orders coming one by one!

We had a total of about 15 or so people and the best part was no one had to wait long for their orders. At most places like this you expect to wait for a bit, but they have a system here and the system seems to be flawless! I ended up having nearly 4 pounds all by myself - that's a record for me! I tried every spice level and would have to recommend the Meaux Spicy. It's got the heat, but doesn't kill the flavor of the crawfish. They normally charge $5.50 per pound, but with a slow season the price is up to $5.95 for now. The chicken and sausage gumbo was also money in a bowl! Not too salty and a hearty roux!

They are truly accomodating with the BYOB policy and allow you to bring whatever you like and even provide coolers if you'd like to ice down your adult beverages. They have a playground for the rug rats, should you own any of those and a few flatscreen TVs mounted to catch the sport of the day! I am officially a fan of the Shack and will be a frequent customer for years to come...hell, they may be the reason I decide to stay OTL!

Well, that and the housing market sucks right now!

Who brings cheap white wine & red plastic cups to a restaurant in the  country? Apparently, we do. I don't know exactly how we ended up here on a random girls' night out. I believe it started out when one of my girlfriends invited me out to dinner to catch up and to drive her brand new spanking sports car. This required a somewhat long, open road. I had been craving crawfish but refused to wait on Boiling Crab. And finally, another girlfriend demanded no girls' night out is complete without alcohol.

Long winding road, check. Crawfish, check. Drinks...err, BYOB? When I looked up the restaurant online, I couldn't see the BYOB mention on the website (yes, I actually failed to check Yelp reviews). I asked my friend again and she reassured me that it is, in fact , BYOB. And since it was a very spontaneous night out, all I had handy was a bottle of cheap white wine. We were too lazy to make an actual stop at a liquor store & decided this would have to do for the night.

And so we trekked it over on dark highway 90, winded down a farm road, crossed a railroad track, and lo  & behold a giant glowing sign awaited us. A full, dirt parking lot was a good sign especially on a week night. Unfortunately, this also meant my friend had to park her newly washed sportscar in the ditch...and really, people here double park on the ditch with no care in the world. But as they say, when in Rome do as the Romans do!

Walking up to the barn-like restaurant a sign welcomed us saying to seat ourselves. We decided to plop ourselves on one of the long picnic tables. I was still wary on whether we were really allowed to bring alcohol until I saw families bringing in enormous coolers & popping open bottles of beer. The young, friendly server (noticing we had wine) offered us cups. We thanked him politely for the offer but we came prepared...red cups, wine opener, and even a stopper. Yes, I realize how ridiculous we must've looked but with nary a care in the world we popped that wine open & ordered pounds of crawfish, corn, potatoes, mushrooms, and had ourselves a good time.

The verdict? Pretty damn tasty seasoning! While two of us enjoyed the Spicy seasoning, our other friend ordered the Meaux Spicy and complained that it didn't really taste any spicier than ours. Instead, it just tasted saltier. The corn, potato, and mushrooms were all decent and are priced per piece. Honestly, the Boiling Crab still has the tastiest combination of spices in my opinion but is NEVER worth the ridiculous 2 hour wait.

    A few golden nuggets:

    - Try to come here on a weekday. We originally came on a Thursday and had no problems seating ourselves for dinner. Tried it again with a different group at 7pm on a Sunday and they were turning people away because they ran out of crawfish!!! I suggest before you go in the evening (esp on a weekend) to call first. We came again on another separate occasion on a Saturday at 6pm and we waited in a line out the door. Don't come hungry, at least not on a weekend!

    - There's a drive through window but if you think you're gonna get your crawfish faster through there, you are dead wrong. The line of cars on the weekend is just as long as the lines of ppl out the door.

    - Everyone that works here is super friendly! Be patient, as the servers are slammed with several tables at a time & are busting their ass.

    - Don't hold up a table too long after eating. Yes, enjoy your beer & the company but let others have the opportunity to enjoy the crawfish they drove so far for!

    - And lastly, don't be like us and bring wine. That's pretty self explanatory.

This is a BYOB place.  Sit outside with your friends & eat crawfish, crab, shrimp & the fixin's.  Owner Dan Meaux is always available to check how you're doing.  Service is great.  This is a great down-home spot for fun & mud bugs.  I go all the time during crawfish season.  This place is GREAT!

I went to Crawsby, Texas for crawfish, y'all.

My dearest cousin lives in this neck of the country woods, and for the past year or so, I've taken notice of the Crawfish Shack each time I've driven passed its dirt parking lot filled with jacked-up pickups and Harleys. And when I heard it was BYOB, I was on a mission to make a day of it here.

Foodies, critics and bloggers across the city - along with fellow crawfish crazies - should take note of what I'm about to say: Come here. Come here now. Hurricane Katrina and then Ike haulted the availability of mudbugs, thus, the high price for these critters about the size of one's thumb. But Crawfish Shack appears to have found a steroid solution -- or so it seems.

Imagine crawdads the size of your iPhone. Or your entire hand. And claws worth cracking into. Unheard of. And each and every -- I repeat: each and every -- bug was this size. No weaklings. No babies. They were piping hot, dripping with juice and seasoning.

You can also buy live crawfish, for those who prefer to season to their own liking at home; or order it ready-to-go for a stress-free, crawfish boil fiesta in the backyard as we did. Sixty pounds to be exact.

So there you have it. Spread the word. Get here early. And don't forget the beer.

I can sum my experience here up in 1 word. Phenomenal!!  We met the owner Dan Meaux and he was very nice.

This in fact, was our second visit.  We made a 4 hour trek just to enjoy the atmosphere and their awesome crawfish.  This place is BYOB so bring your beer and sit back and let the great waitstaff take care of your appetite.  This place serves big, juicy, succulent crawfish that are seasoned to perfection.  This Mr. Meaux has been in business for years and knows how to cook up a mean craw daddy.  I also knight him Sir Customer Service because he makes sure that he comes by your table to say hi before you leave no matter how packed it might be in his establishment.  The music that is playing is top 40's and it is just the right volume to enjoy and still be able to have a conversation.

If you are in the mood  for crawfish, I have 2 words for you Crawfish Shack!!

Ok Crawfish lovers, if you are in a serious mood for some craw daddies, mud bugs, or whatever you wanna call them you really need to make the driver to good ole Crosby! They have the best crawfish around and not to mention its BYOB, yes BYOB! They even have some coolers that you can use if you happen to forget yours! They have all the good trimmings to accompany your craw daddys your heart could desire and for the pansies out there that don't like em spicy not to worry they have different levels of spice for ya. For those of us with kiddos, they have a fenced in play area for them too and they don't mind you bringing in outside food for them. Only down side is the parking, it is not as big as it needs to be. Even though they have upgraded in a MAJOR way its still very limited with all the jacked up pick up trucks (remember we're talkin bout Crosby)! Anyhow I know its late in the season but my fiance, friends, & I went a few days ago and I had to tell everyone about it. So better late then never right? So stop in and have a cold beer (yummy) and some crawfish (even yummier) before the season is over, if not remeber there is always next year!!
