I've driven by here many, many times over the years, but never stopped in until today.

The food was wonderful, portions were generous, and the price was very reasonable.  This would have been a 5-star rating from us, if it weren't for the service.

Maybe it was because we were only a "couple" (everyone else that was dining there seemed to be a group, and I noticed that there were no seating accommodations in the restaurant for groups less than four), or maybe it was our age (we were obviously the youngest patrons in the establishment today - by many years), but our server was giving us the absolute minimum level of service required to call it "service"!

As an example, after we had ordered and were waiting for our food, we noticed everyone around us had bread baskets, and even heard the waitstaff asking other patrons if they would like bread.  For some reason, we were not offered any of that delicious home-made bread, nor did our server even give us a chance to request it!  No drink refills were offered, probably because we were not checked-up on while dining. It was all "business", taking the order, not making eye contact, dropping the bill, and turning away as soon as she could (maybe so we wouldn't ask for anything else?).

Based on food quality, quantity and value, we may try Das Dutch Kitchen again.  Hopefully the service we received toady was not "normal".

as the others have said, this is real amish food.not the  tourist stuff. Our amish friend turned us onto the place.  the broasted chicken rocks. The potatoes and the salad bar get high marks also. If the cream sticks are not sold out buy a few. You will be back for more !!! They are worth the drive alone...

Stopped for one reason... the bread and donuts. Wish I had bought more of the donuts because the Bumbleberry fry pie and vanilla cream filled maple bar were among the best I have ever had. The doughnuts are not the light and fluffy kind, so a glass of cold milk is a perfect complement. We also bought a loaf of white bread that goes great with the Smucker's jam we bought at the Smucker's Store and Cafe just down the road.

Its home cooking and heavy duty food!!  You are hit with the food smells in the lobby/gift shop.  I mean hit, like freight train.  If you walk in and you are not hunger, well you will be!!

Once you arrive in the dining room, you will see an average salad bar and buffet.  Do not lose hope, the menu has the really good stuff.  OK, forget the menu go for the Dutch kitchen sampler (Beef, broasted chickie, ham, mashed taters, gravy, stuffing, fresh bread, choice of side but take noodles) and a take out box for tomorrows supper!!  Delicious tip - order extra gravy then on side plate mix taters, beef, gravy and noodles.  DON'T think just try it, really you will feel better afterward.  The stuff is all good even after second heating.  The beef pulls apart wirth fork.  The chickie is moist and awesome seasoning.  The ham is really good, not dried out jerky slices!!

True confession, I never made desert but tried chocolate whipped mouse like stuff.  Then I tried it twice!!

You really need to try this place! total bill for 2 with 2 sweet teas $36.

For those who wait "stick to my ribs" home cooking, this establishment delivers just that. The salad bar was fresh and the buffet food was delicious. I found the broasted chicken to be some of the best I have ever eaten, crispy on the outside and very moist and tender on the inside. The mashed potatoes were just creamy enough and seasoned to perfection. Then there was the homemade bread, warm and very tasty. As to the service, beyond helpful and friendly is the only description. I am so glad I stopped on my way and will make sure I make it back again sometime in the future.

I visited for the first time today. The restaurant is on Route 30 in Dalton and is convenient if you're traveling from Wooster to Canton or from Canton to Columbus. The Saturday lunch buffet at $12.79 before tax was good and above average. They had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, chicken gravy, beef gravy, corn, roast beef, green beans, stuffing, and chicken noodles. The salad bar was OK with a good pasta salad but mediocre potato salad. But the experience left a poor taste in my mouth after my server didn't come by my table during the last 20-30 minutes I was there. She was initially attentive. She got me water. She got me bread. After I ate my first plate, she came by to see if I wanted to order pie. I wasn't sure yet if I would have room for pie, so I asked her to give me a few more minutes. That was the last time I saw her at my table. To be fair, a bunch of people were seated in her section. (It was around 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.) After I finished the food from my second trip to the buffet, I kept on waiting on her and waiting on her and waiting on her so I could order a slice of pie and get my bill. I saw her serve people at the other tables, but I got barely any acknowledgement I was even there. I finally flagged down another server and told her what was going on. She later said she had told my server I was waiting. I saw my server make another trip to serve people at the other tables, before she returned to the kitchen without stopping by my table. At this point, I had been there for 90 minutes, and I just walked to the register and asked to pay my bill and decided to forego getting the pie slice. I left feeling kind of ticked off. I don't live in the area, so it's unlikely I'll ever visit again, and maybe the server was just focusing on the regulars. To be fair, this could be an isolated incident, and I happened to be one of the rare customers this happened to.

This being the only place to sit down and eat in my hometown of Dalton, Ohio; it is referred to as "The Restaurant." It has great, homestyle meals that will leave you full and feeling like you are at your grandmother's for Thanksgiving. The dessert pie is just what you need to finish off your visit.

I wasn't a fan of the buffet. If I were to come back I would order food instead. Nice gift shop, and bakery selections. Staff was nice.

You can put your bet on Das Dutch. It's the Amish-style home cooking that never uses any shortcut. Everything is made from scratch and you can tell once you take a bite.

    - Fried-chicken: crispy on the outside and moist on the inside.

    - Chicken noodle soup: so comforting it chases my blue away.

    - Mashed potato: one of the creamiest & tastiest I ever have.

Save some room for desserts. They have so many great pies to choose from.

Das Dutch is an Amish style restaurant in the middle of nowhere Ohio.  You will probably never go there... unless like me you get sent there for work.  Never say never.

There's a lot of talk of the buffet at Das Dutch but it never looked fantastic to me.  I go with the hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes IN the sandwich.  Did you hear me, *IN* the sandwich.  Their homemade bread is fabulous.  Top that off with a side of sweet potato fries with the brown sugar and cinnamon sauce and you're in Amish heaven.  The pies looked good, but I never mangaged to save enough room for dessert.

Das Dutch is well known in and around Kidron, Ohio.  It is a traditionally Amish Style food restaurant.  Big hearty meals that leave you very satisfied.  Nothing fancy, but a great place to hit up if you're in the area.
