Had the schnitzel special, pork schnitzel, german potato salad and saurkraut. Very inexpensive. Â The wife had a pasta dish of spaetzle carbonnara. Like many people who like German food and bier, I am getting to be kind of Zepplin shaped and I appreciated that you could get the normal or a smaller sized meal with a lot of the menu choices.
Review Source:Was recently back. We do like this place a lot, having been here for the World Series, and random drinking nights. :)
Great beers on tap, although our server wasn't up on what the different types of beers are, happily though you can sample before you buy, and that's a great touch.
Had the schnitzel and spaetzle again, the schnitzel was great, not oily, clean, well done. Had it with an egg on top and the taste is top notch. The spaetzle this time was a bit gummy, but supremely better than what Masselow's has on offer right now.
It's a fun place to be, and some of the "locals" are quite colorful. It's nice to see a very proud Giants fan too. :)
Came here on a whim since I was new to this area of town and craving something new that I've never had before.
I've seen lines form waiting for a seat inside. We have never had to wait long though. I always stick with the Jager schnitzel served with a side of spaetzel (spaetzel is equivalent to pasta). The portions here are very generous, so I always have a to go container in my hand as I walk out the door. I have been here around 6 times and only twice have I been offered soup instead of a salad. The first time I got soup, it was potato soup and so good. The potato soup, according to the waitress, is their biggest seller when it comes to soup. The second soup I had was some sort of spicy soup which I did not care for. I think if you want soup with your dinner meal, it is best to get here early before the place fills up.
I have ordered another menu item, can't remember what item that was, but it was very dry and not enjoyable, so I stick with the Jager schnitzel, cause it is not dry at all. The Jager is served with brown mushroom gravy with some onions. The gravy is slightly sweet and salty. You are served free sourdough bread with butter when you are seated.
They have a beer (bier in German) sampler of about 4-5 beers in small glasses. I have not tried the sampler, but the table next to us said it was great and ordered another round of sampler biers. The biers range from dark to light to medium, so you get a little bit of everything with the sampler.
I was disappointed in the schnitzel -- rather than using pork tenderloin, they used what looked like a thinly sliced boneless pork chop. The meat was dry and tough. The hunter sauce was very tasty, however, as was the house-made spaetzle. My DH had the wurst platter and was very pleased. All three wursts were very good and the house-made saurkraut was wonderful.
Staff was attentive and worked well together as a team to provide excellent service. We'll be back -- I'll just stay away from the schnitzel!
This was my first time at Das Stein Haus and the food was alright. Â I had the Chicken Marsala but I probably wouldn't order that again. It is a German place, after all! Â The most disappointing part was the annoyance of the waitress at having a party of twelve to serve. Â At the end of the meal we were told that we needed to make a reservation two weeks ahead so they could have enough staff. She conceded that the restaurant wasn't that busy. Â Chiding yor customers after dining in your restaurant is no way to encourage them to return.
Review Source:Visiting from Honolulu on business. Wanted to get some German food since we don't have any German resteraunts on Oahu (unreal). Was not disappointed... got the combo place with schnitzel and sausage and sauerkraut. Washed it down with a cold beer. Left happy and full. Lots of regulars flowed in and out... everyone knew the staff by name and vice versa... always a sign that the food is good if the locals keep coming back. I'd be a regular if I lived here!
Review Source:We've passed Das Stein Haus many times and have been meaning to stop in, so last night before the Chief's game we finally did. We were impressed with the beer selection - very good German beer! A lot of beers brewed by Bayern (Missoula, MT) as the brewmaster is from Germany. My personal favorite was the Dragon's Breath. We got the German Platter and it was very good! We will for sure be coming back for brats and beer! And hopefully they add a pretzel to the menu as well! :) Also, very good customer service. The owner, George, is very personable and made sure our meal was enjoyable. Yay for a German pub in Spokane!
Review Source:Cozy and fun German atmosphere. Â Service was pleasant and the food was delicious! Â German potato soup was warm and yummy and split the sampler- good idea as it was more than enough for two. The sauerkraut was obviously homemade & had tremendous flavor! Â Treated ourself to the Black Forest Torte for dessert= bomb!
Review Source:My husband and I came here because of a http://Restaurant.com coupon (which allows alcohol :)) and man we they delicious! I got the German Platter, which consisted of three brats, the spatzle, and schintzel. I ordered the big plate because I wanted left overs, and man did I have left overs! It was so yummy I was happy to eat it the next morning. My husband ordered just the original schintzel that came with the spatzle and kraut, and he enjoyed his as much as I did. Â Great beer and wine selection as well. Â We will definitely be going back! Â *one con; the wait was a little long, but they make everything fresh so it is expected, and worth it*
