Well I was finally "in the neighborhood" and have been wanting to see if this place lived up to all the hype. Have to say overall I'm pretty disappointed. My quesadilla had very good flavor & the portion size was pretty fair. But I had ordered my food to go & they crammed it in a box that was way too small. By the time I got it home it was a mess. Two items on the menu, the roasted corn & the Torta, were not available. They took my order & payment for the Torta before finding out it wasn't available. Then I had to wait for an extended period while the nice young lady that waited on me had to call someone to figure out how to refund my bank card. I was also given three little containers to put my beans in when one big one would've been more sufficient. And speaking of the beans, they along with the other two sides, some sort of rice & potato salad were very disappointing & totally lacking any flavor or seasoning. Then when I was about to leave, the girl informs me that she forgot to give me some tortilla chips that apparently are supposed to be included with my order. No type of salsa or anything with them & they are just stale & pretty uneventful. In the future I hope food quality improves & that they inform customers of what they're either out of and/or what's unavailable on their menu before ordering. Adequate sized food containers for items would also prove helpful. The young lady at the front counter was uninformed regarding certain things but very friendly. At least I didn't get a bad attitude on top of all the other disappointment.

Went to Texas for a friend's wedding and wanted to have some good Tex-mex while we were down there.  Found this place had good reviews on urbanspoon, and so we went there for lunch.

First thing to mention is that when you come up it smells like delicious bbq!!!  And we were not disappointed!  My husband got the brisket taco and the pulled pork taco and he said both were amazing.  I got the chili relleno platter with tilapia, and my mouth is watering just remembering it!

We also shared an order of chips and guac, which was enormous and fresh and delicious.

I highly recommend this place -- you'll see why the locals love it!

This place has amazing food! It is always worth the drive from Dallas. You can taste the freshness of the food. The enchiladas are superb. Quest is great and the salsa is fresh. I love the smoked taste of all of the meats. Not sure why people would think Mexican restaurants have a vegan menu? This place should gets stars all around

Smoked chile relleno, we had it with the smoked chicken, was outstanding.  Skirt steak nachos were excellent.  Grilled corn was great.  Staff was very friendly.  Portions were in line with the amount of money spent.

Oh my goodness, I love love love LOVE Del Norte Tacos. Every time I am in town for work, I eat there 4/5 days I am there. It is by far the BEST Tex-Mex restaurant I have ever been to. It tastes exactly like home cooking, except a little fancier. The chef trained at a Four Seasons, and has been involved in other start up restaurants. He certainly has a knack for Tex-Mex.

So the place is set up in an old gas station, looks small from the road (make sure not to miss the place!), but inside has plenty of seating. The ladies that take my order are always very friendly and provide excellent customer service, even when handling the long lines of hungry people. I always have trouble figuring out what to order not because I don't know what I want to eat, I just don't know  what awesome thing I want to try that day!

I've tried the brisket, BBQ pork, beef fajita, and my favorite has to be the beef fajita. The BBQ pork is a close second. I have heard that the fish tacos are amazing as well. Pretty much everything on the menu is amazing, you really can't go wrong. I tried to be healthy and eat a fajita salad, thinking 'it's just a salad, won't be that tasty'. I was wrong. It had cilantro, and lime, and was pretty much the definition of a salad with a Tex-Mex twist. Even without the cheese and all the unhealthy fixings, it was still awesome.

They have specials every day, which I thoroughly enjoy eating. The smoked sausage torta was great, as well as their pork chop. Guy sure knows how to grill meat!

The pot of beans they have in the crock pot all day are very good. Taste just like home. Their avocado serrano salsa is my favorite salsa

Breakfast chorizo is very good, as well as the machecado. Barbacoa I have heard is similar to the brisket, but I'm not positive. Menudo is very good, and very authentic.

I can't wait until I can get a chance to try their tamales!

I've not been here on weekends, but one of the ladies says that they sell out of their ribs they offer in no time. Also, free Lone Star beer on weekends too!

This place is worth a 4 hour road trip.

We drove 260 miles for these tacos, and they were worth every bite.  Don't blink though, or you'll drive right past it.  Just wish they'd do something about those dang flies.

I went here with some colleagues after a training today, thinking that most Mexican restaurants have vegan friendly fare.  Not here.  The only meal I could eat was a House Salad with no queso.  All that was on the salad was romaine lettuce, pico de Gallo and guacamole.  Disappointing.   Also, you have to pay for chips and salsa.  The amount of chips you get was not enough to share for two people.

    OMG

I was in Granbury for work and a coworker said we had to go here for dinner. It was amazing!!! Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. I'd drive all the way from Dallas for the steak fajita salad. One of our crew ate 3 meals in a row here. I wish I had. I would so franchise this place in SF if they're interested in expanding.

I had been hearing about Del Norte Tacos from several people at work for quite a while, but I had never been because it is so far out of the way.  My wife and I went to the Granbury Wine Walk in 2012 and came upon their stand.  They were serving smoked chicken salad with chipotle sauce and it was amazing.  As we were heading back to Cleburne we decided we had to stop by Del Norte and pick up some of that chicken salad.  Unfortunately, they don't serve the chicken salad at the restaurant., but we ordered chile rellenoes and they were incredible.  Since that time we have returned several time and have always enjoyed the food.  Though it can be a little crowded and parking is a pain, it is worth it for the delicious food and reasonable prices.  PS. Don't forget to get your complimentary beans.

Since I stopped working in the area, and can't just stop by at random anymore because its like 80 miles away, I'm really starting to have withdrawals. Thing is, I can not find any place in all of the DFW that comes close to being on par with anything that they serve here. Everything is just ridiculously awesome! Tacos, awesome (if you eat pork, you have to try the al pastor, if you can't eat meat on a Friday because of lent then, you have to try the blackened fish, its a win-win)! Burritos, awesome! Fajita nachos, awesome! Enchiladas, awesome x 2! Smoked chile relleno, awesome x 3! Even the hamburger is one of the best I've ever had and do not get me started on the breakfast menu! The chef Chris has the tex mex/mexican cooking game on lock! I only wish they had a location that was closer to me. Oh well, guess I'll just have to set part of my paycheck aside every month for a small trip to Godley, this place is worth it!

On another quick trip through Dallas, I straight up drove 60 miles out of my way because I had to introduce my gf to this place. Brisket taco, Fajita taco were marvelous as I remembered them. I made it a point to try the smoked relleno and it lived up to the hype. Crucially, my gf thought Del Norte was worth the 120 mi roundtrip, therefore I am upping my rating to 5 stars.

I was pleasantly surprised - whoever runs this place really cares about making food.  We had Mexico City style tacos, which are soft corn tortillas filled, in our case, with the barbacoa meat, fresh tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and lime wedges, as opposed to the usual Tex-Mex style of crispy tortillas and canned cheese.

The barbacoa was a little sweet for my taste, but overall delicious - juicy, flavorful, and well-spiced.  The rice that came with the plate was WAY better than the usual rice you get, and had a lot of garlic and cumin in it.  I wish I knew about the free beans the other reviewers are talking about - the rice would have gone great with beans.

And the salsa.  Ooooh, I liked the salsa.  They had three salsas, and they were ALL excellent.  They had a mild red and a spicy red, and we ended up mixing them about half and half to get the heat level we wanted.  The salsa verde was bright and I could taste some citrus in it.  Very well done.  I can easily see us spending a couple of hours in that place just eating chips and salsa and shooting the breeze.

Since we travel this route fairly often, this place is going to become one of my regular stops.

We were wrapping up our opening day dove hunt and on the way back to Fort Worth, we noticed this place and decided to give it a try, hoping we could cure our cravings for some breakfast tacos here. We definitely weren't disappointed.

After finding a place to park, the delectable smell of burning mesquite emanating from the building piqued my interest and my appetite further. Entering the building I was very happy to find a rustic, yet deceivingly large building. Gazing at the menu was no small task, Del Norte features quite the large menu and I was split on what to order. We went with the daily breakfast special (name escapes me) that had brisket and egg with a special sauce on it.

The burrito was great and I definitely want to go back to try their other items (ribs on the weekends!). Cooking their meat on a smoker gives them a lot of options with their menu as you will see, and as I already mentioned, makes it that much harder to make a decision on what you want to order. They had all the Dublin Bottling Works available too (pure sugar cane soda if you are not familiar, formerly Dublin Dr. Pepper).  I would definitely put the food in the gourmet category, so it will be a little more pricey than just your run-of-the-mill burrito shack (think Fuzzy's more than Taco Bell). Also, considering your food options in Godley, I will echo others on here that this place is truly a gem. Someone could probably be successful at this location with half the effort and ingenuity, but Del Norte didn't do it that way.

So, now I am really excited to come back out here after (or before) our next hunt. I think it is going to be a great season.

One of the best meals I've had in Texas - have lived here since 1990 :) And we've eaten at many great places - including the Mansion in their heyday

Great country trip outside of Dallas/Fort Worth - brisket and ribs were wonderful.  Next time plan on getting the seafood

If you can't decide between bbq or mexican for dinner, just go to Del Norte for a perfect combination of both. Smoked brisket, pork, chicken, and fish options for tacos, burritos, etc. The seating area is generally filled with the smokey aroma of the grill, increasing your appetite.
Their al pastor tacos are making my tummy rumble just thinking about them... lots of juicy pork flavor mixed with pineapple.... my mouth is watering. I especially love the way they grill their chile rellenos instead of breading and deep frying them. It creates a more flavorful poblano. Plus, they pile that pepper with tons of toppings. It is a beautiful mountain of flavor.
They also have free beans that are clearly made from scratch. The salsa options range from mild to a spicy habanero... all are good. The only bad experience I've ever had here was a fish taco that tasted particularly fishy that day... though previously I had a good fish taco. Just a bad fish day I guess.
It is BYOB but I think on Fridays and Saturdays they serve free beer (?!?!)... I haven't been able to make it out on a Friday or Saturday yet but can't wait!

really, what are your options around here?  you might expect a half assed effort from some place that has no real competition, but that is not the case.

the food here is really really good.  we love enchiladas and these were among the best we've had.  order at the counter and get your own stuff (salsa, napkins, water etc)

the beans are free with meals and also self serve.  but they give you a really small cub so you may have to make multiple trips if you are a bean lover.  and these beans are good, worthy of the extra footwork.

tip, it's BYOB so bring your own drink.  they had a sign pledging free beer friday and saturday, I was here on a monday.... I drank water.

Found out about this place from the Texas Highways Magazine. Thought it would be worth the one hour and a half drive from Dallas and it sure was. We had the smoked chile relleno with brisket, and the smoked chile relleno with cheese.
The meat and peppers were smoked alright.   Huge portions with rice and black beans. I sort of felt sorry for stuffing myself with the free charro beans, chips and salsa, as I could not finish the main dish.
And another word of advice, don't park too close to the smoker, or else your car will smell like bbq for the next week or so and you just might feel like taking a long detour on your way to work.
Try it asap, before it becomes too much of a touristy spot.

Great people & friendly service, but didn't care for the brisket---too sweet for my taste.

This place is great for lunch and dinner.  I'm tempted to give 5 stars, except for breakfast.

The food is great.  I end up getting the same thing every time I go - the chile relleno stuffed with brisket.  Yum, makes my mouth water just typing it.  This is one of these chef run businesses.  He's great in the kitchen, but perhaps not the best business man.

A few tips, never eat breakfast there.  They do NOT have coffee.  I went one morning and the place was empty while the dinner in town was packed.  I quickly figured out why.  For me, if the meal doesn't involve coffee, then it NOT breakfast.

Tip 2, most of the seating is outside.  So stopping by when its packed in July might result in you eating on the porch sweating and dreaming of A/C.

The staff has always been super friendly when I was there.  You order at the front and they bring it to you.  Its BYOB, with FREE beer (if you consider Lone Star beer) on Friday and Sat evenings until they run out.

This review is for the Godley location.  I've heard they opened a place in a gas station in Cresson, but I've haven't eaten there and see little reason to do so.    Cresson is only about 12-15 miles down the main road from Godley.

Great food.  Interesting old gas station with different rooms.  Ihad meat platter with brisket and chicken. Our party of 6 enjoyed brisket tacos. Fish tacos in corn tortillas were fresh and seem blackened.  Excellent flavor.  BYOB.  Free lone star beer with voluntary donation. Restroom is VERY nasty, otherwise would have been 5 stars

I've been there twice, once with clients, and both times was great!  Outside doesn't look like much but the food is outstanding.

Yuck.  Flour tortillas on the cheese enchadalas, beans from a pot where everyone could dip, no real plates, no real silverwear, no glasses and more expensive than on the border with only one vegitarian option and no free chips and salsa.  You also smell like a fireplace after leaving.  This place sucks and should be shut down by the health department, who I am calling on them monday morning.

By far, best mexican food in the area, much better than you will find in any of the larger towns around here. Might be a line, service may be slow, so just take it easy and enjoy yourself. Very cool building, converted gas station. Please open on Sundays!

The food here us just Godley!! Came from Fort Worth to visit friends and eat at their little taco restaurant they liked. OMG!  Best brisket ever. The ribs were so soft and flavorful. No liquor license so we were given free beer on Saturday. Going back soon! Fantastic!

Wow, what a find!  We were famished after the GoatNeck bike ride in Cleburne, but did not want fast food.  Courtesy of Yelp, we found this gem.  It is a small restaurant, but worth the drive.  Absolutely the best smoked brisket enchiladas that I've ever eaten.  The tacos my husband ate were fantastic.  Chips and queso were great---blue corn chips dusted with chili powder was a nice touch.  And, the tres leches cake that we ate to top it off was awesome.  If you are ever in this area, don't miss Del Norte!

Ate at this place for lunch today. WOW! I had the pork tacos, 3 in an order less than $6.00. I had driven by this place many times and never stopped in until a friend recommended it. The people are very friendly. Order your food at the counter and they bring it to you.  Take out or seating inside or outside. To quote Arnold...."I'll be back"

When you enter Del Norte you may notice that there aren't a lot of vegetarian options. Fear not... the kind people at Del Norte can make most of their menu without meat ... just ask. My favorites are the black bean nachos and the torta . Great Tex Mex. This is the kind of place you expect to find in a big city. And they cater.

We have been going here 3 times a week for lunch since they opened... there is a different special every day... and we usually order it! Located at the stoplight in Godley, you won't be able to miss it. There is a large smoker out front with AMAZING smells luring you into the restaurant. A classically trained chef (Chris) and his vibrant wife (Mary) moved back "home" and opened Del Norte this spring. Tired of working ifor others in five star establishments, we are now lucky enough to experience their talents for lunch & dinner.

Reasonably priced gourmet items such as, burritos, tortas & tostadas are on the regular menu. The tortilla soup & corn side dish are incredible. Ask Mary what the special is and you will not be disappointed. Mesquite grilled burger with avocado & bacon salsa, smoked pork tacos with pinapple chutney, shrimp tostadas.... I can't even remember all that we have ordered.

They have large amount of smoked meats & tortillas available for takeout, we often feed large groups that way! If you are in the area, find your way here. If you are visiting Motorsport Ranch drive past the chains and BBQ and head to Del Norte.....
