Who knew I would ever end up in Wharton, TX, but here I was for two days because the high school girls had a softball tournament out in El Campo. Luckily the other coach grew up in Wharton so he knew exactly where to go when our stomachs started to churn and told us we wanted food!
Driving through Wharton was very nostalgic in some sense. The buildings had an old town appeal and somewhat victorian style homes. I definitely wanted to stop by some of the stores and have a look at what they had, but I had to remember I wasn't by myself. I had a whole team with me...so onward to the food. We pulled into the parking lot and walked on in. At first I kept looking around because there wasn't a menu posted, only the specials. I think the employees knew what we were looking for and gave us a menu, but they only had one menu. I was like one menu huh, that's kind of strange for a restaurant that's been around to have only one menu. About 5 minutes later another employee came out with some photocopied menus. This was much better than trying to share one menu with 15 teenage girls!
I decided on the Texas Burger and onion rings. The burger was definitely moist and the serving size was huge! I couldn't even finish the onion rings. I had like 2 and that was enough to put me over the edge. Although I think I would've enjoyed the fries a bit more than the onion rings...but oh wells.
The food was OK and the service was pretty good. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely stop by and try something else. I was told the Diamond S Nachos were really good by the customer standing behind me in line...so maybe that'll be next on what my what to order list.
