I've eaten at this little gem a few times over the years its been open. Always a lovely experience! They've got a good thing going at Dish and I'd be happy to recommend this place to any one who's looking for a quiet time and can  appreciate a chef thats constructed an amazing menu with complex dishes. Happy mouth and tummy indeed!
Review Source:We've returned to Dish numerous times since discovering it about a year ago. We visit with another couple (it's midway between us) and all of us are always very pleased. Â Eileen and Georges do a masterful job of providing a warm, friendly atmosphere, a great selection of wines and beers, and outstanding food. Â Imaginative specials compliment a wonderful regular menu that always include interesting and tasty ingredients.
Simply put Dish should be high on your list when your looking for a relaxing time with excellent food.
I have gone to Dish plenty of times. Â The staff is so friendly and remembers us every time! Â The food is simply delicious. Â I can't rave about it more. Â The chef George will come out and chat with the table you can see how passionate he is about his food and restaurant. Â When my friends come up from Manhattan it is the only place in town I will take them to!
Review Source:I don't often give out 5 stars, but this place truly deserves it as you can see from the other reviews as well. Â The food was delicious--and it's all farm to table. Â The owner was such a friendly, knowledgeable woman, who apparently picks up the fresh ingredients locally every day. Â You could definitely tell when eating that such care went into its preparation. Â
The restaurant is small, which made for a nice, intimate dinner--we sat at the bar to eat, which we really enjoyed, but you might want to make a reservation on the weekends. We ordered the Mediterranean platter, which came with sooo much food and very reasonably priced...and we polished it clean. Â We also had the steak for dinner and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly.
It is hidden in the back corner of the shopping complex it is in--so be sure to note that when looking for it behind a bank. Â I would recommend going with smaller groups / parties or for two...unless you're sure to make a reservation. Â We didn't see a drink list, but they have a few great beers on tap and lots of wine to choose from.
If you're ever in the area or in neighboring towns, you should certainly give Dish a visit.
I've been to this place several times and have had a great experience every time. Â The food is so good, fresh, well thought-out and artfully served. Â I love the cheese plate and the goat cheese salad. Â The crepes are great for dessert. Â My only complaint about this palce it that the service is a little spotty - sometimes its attentive and sometimes its frustratingly slow. I also wish they had regular flavors of soda and not just the off-brand stuff.
Review Source:Last night my in laws took us and our 8 month old daughter here for our anniversary. This was our 1st time dining at Dish, but I've read the great reviews on Yelp, so we decided to try it.
When we 1st walked in we were kind of worried that this wasn't a place we should have brought our daughter to even though she is always very well behaved. So we took our chances that she would be good and hoped for the best. The owner Eileen came over to us and let us know that there was a table just about to wrap up and we would be seated within 5 minutes.
I had the Butternut Squash Curry soup as my appetizer and someone had ordered the Pear/Cranberry Sauce/Brie Crostini. Both were delicious. Â
I had ordered the Bistro Burger for my entree with a salad instead of fries. When my meal was brought to me, there were fries on the plate. Within a minute of getting the food Eileen came over and asked me if I ordered the salad, which I did, so she had someone bring me a side salad b/c my order was wrong. Â I really appreciated that. (love her!) Â
As much as I wanted to try a dessert, no one else did, so I never got to try the nutella crepe, next time I will!
When it was time for the bill, Eileen came over to talk with my daughter for a little bit. She took her out of her highchair and kept her with her when she went to process the check. It was so cute seeing my baby on the other side of the bar looking all around at everything (she's very nosy and alert, so I know she was enjoying herself!) Â [a side note: of course brownie points get awarded here b/c I love anyone who makes a stink over my lil pumpkin!]
Service: 5 stars
Food: 5 stars
Ambiance: 5 stars
Overall I would rate this place a 4.5 if I could. I have to take a point off b/c of a slight odor. We were seated in the far left corner next to the window. I'm not sure if it was b/c the bathroom was down the hall there or if it was something else but I kept smelling a slight sewer scent. It wasn't very pleasant but as our meal went on, it seemed to have faded.
Had a great dinner here the other night. For one, it was a Wednesday so wines by the bottle were 1/2 price -- can't go wrong with that! Started off with crostini du jour, I think it was pear and camembert. Very nice, and great presentation. Then I had the homemade veggie burger, and it was great! Also, it was huge. I was able to take 1/2 home and eat it for lunch the next day. For dessert I went with the peach melba and it was the perfect end to the meal, fresh and sweet! So great to have a place like this in Mahopac, I definitely recommend it!
Review Source:Back again, and, yes, this is clearly a regular stop for us.
I started with the soup special, a creamless potato and broccoli with a drizzle of sundried tomato oil. This was fresh, not salty, and not vegetal - loved it, but had to share after allowing my wife a taste!
The grass fed NY strip with a cognac and Roquefort sauce was rockin'. The steak and the broiled asparagus paired nicely with the red Bandol wine. My wife had the Moroccan lamb shank special, accented by turnips, raisins and cous-cous, and loved this flavorful dish.
For those who desire comfort food, there's a burger or personal pizza to go with a nice wine and beer list.
Eileen and Georges are friendly and graceful hosts, and you should add Dish to your gotta go there list.
Ask for the Pineau "digestiv" for your after dinner drink!
Wow...what a gr8 find here in Mahopac!!!
5***** for food and wine/beer selections. Fresh and tasy...gr8 portions and such decadent desserts....the 4* rating is service related and its so small. I would definielty call ahead if you aren;t local---it would be so worth the call.
Very veggie oriented---and the Eileen is clearly local grown friendly.
Everything HOMEMADE...and very accomodating if need be!
Very nice little gem in the middle of town. Â Went here the other night was had a very nice experience. Â The service was good, atmosphere nice, and food excellent! Â It is a small place so i could see it being hard to sit on a busy night. Â I will absolutely be eating here again next time I am in the area
Review Source:Dish is my new favorite place to eat in northern Westchester!!!
DRINKS:
They have a great selection of wines that always pair nicely with the meal. Wine is less than $10 a glass and it is a really heavy pour (it's about 1.5 a glass of wine so it's just right for a meal if you're driving home).
FOOD:
The food here has never disappointed me. While there are a few basics which always stick on the menu, there are about a dozen specials which rotate daily. The meat burger, veggie burger and pasta orecchiette are always a phenomenal choice. I didn't think that they updated their website but they told me that they do so stop by to pick what you want to eat.
I could go on and on about the food but you just have to come in and try it for yourself. Everything is hand made with wholesome fresh ingredients so you do not feel gross after eating massive amounts of food. A lot of the servings are quite big, so prepare to pack some up in a Togo Bag so you can eat all three courses.
SEATING:
There are about 10 tables so seating is pretty limited. A lot of people wait at the bar for a table to open up but I highly recommend making a reservation. I've called a 30 minutes ahead of time and they were able to set a table aside.
SERVICE:
Don't expect to be in and out fast because Dish is pretty short staffed. Typically on a Friday night I think they have no more than 5 people working because it takes forever. It's great if you're not in a rush but sometimes I fill up on the bread (which isn't particularly outstanding) while waiting for my app or meal. Bar service is a little bit better since there's usually someone back there.
I always ask the servers what they recommend and they never lead me astray.
SUMMARY:
I've been here once a week for the last three weeks and it's not getting old yet. Stop by for lunch or dinner and try it out if you're in the area!
My friend asked me to go with her and try Dish Bistro and Wine Bar. So the moment we went inside, I was like, "wow, such a nice, simple and cozy restaurant" It is a good thing that I went there with my friend. Â I tried their carrot soup. I loved how the soup tickle my taste buds. I also tried their salad. Their salad is freshly picked, which my friend and I loved. I also tried their Steak, it is perfectly cooked and I love the soft meat. Of course, I didn't forgot to try their wine, and what can I say? They've got a nice selection of wines. My friend and I were so full and very satisfied with our orders. We are definitely coming back to try some other foods
from their menu.
Dish, home to Chef Hannah, is a welcome culinary experience in an otherwise arid landscape up in Putnam County. Â
Any anniversary, birthday, promotion, holiday, or Wednesday night you can find our family eating at Dish. Â Select from the regular menu, or the specials, and you cannot miss!! Â Some favorites? Â The chicken liver pate, and for entrees the rosti and hanger steak are go-to's.
Reserve a table during the weekend, or call in your order and pick up to enjoy at home.
Thanks to Dish, we've had consistent, high quality, organic food made with care and creativity. Â I Love Dish!
My husband and I recently celebrated our first anniversary on a horrendous Aer Lingus flight with crabby flight attendants and a lost suitcase, so we decided to make up for it a few days later with a trip to Dish, which I'd been wanting to try after reading the review in the Times.
Upon entering, I saw the packed bar and figured that everyone was waiting for the free tables; however, we were seated immediately by the window. Â The decor was simple--deep red walls, local paintings, fresh flowers. Â
The menu was diverse--many options for starters, entrees, and a great wine list with several bottles under $30. Â We chose an organic Rose from Provence (no snickering--rose is perfect for summer). Â We ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes and a bowl of Organic Carrot Soup with Lime Creme Fraiche to start. Â So, so, so good. Â Four huge slabs of perfectly breaded and fried tomato arrived with a lime mayo and lots of fresh purple basil on top. Â It was so delicious that I may have used my finger to wipe up any leftover mayo. Â The carrot soup was flavorful and not too sweet, as it can sometimes be. Â My only criticism was that it was a little too spice-drawer for my tastes.
If the entrees were even half as good as the apps, I'd have still been happy, but they far exceeded my expectations. Â I got the arctic char over roasted 'neeps and tatties topped with an herb salad and my husband got the bratwurst with spatzle and red cabbage. Â Heaven. Â I prefer my fish medium well which is challenging because I don't want it to be dried out, but I don't like that weird translucent layer in raw fish. Â This was perfection. Â The outside of the generous portion of fish was crisp and well-seasoned and the herb salad (basil and something I could not identify) added such a lovely freshness to the dish. Â The root veg were small and roasted to the point of caramelization and added depth. Â My husband also enjoyed his wursts--the spatzle was homemade and the cabbage was neither too sweet nor too sour.
I wholeheartedly dove into the dessert menu, which is often disappointing, but not so here! Â My husband had the banana crepe (not my thing but he liked it) and I had the blackberry pear crumble with vanilla ice cream. Â It was so good that I was reluctant to spare a taste, but it was our anniversary, after all. Â Words cannot describe the bliss of this dessert. Â Coffee was superb, as it was actually espresso so it was super-hot and strong and fresh.
This restaurant far exceeds any establishment I've been to in the area in the past year. Â Don't let Mahopac scare you off--go to Dish!
Consistently stellar food! Â This was my 2nd time having dinner at Dish and the food is truly outstanding!!! Â I had the Mahi Mahi with Watermelon, Cantaloupe and Cucumber Salad. My Dad had The Grilled Skirt Steak with Arugula and Fingerling Potatoes. Â Both dishes, though as different as you could get, were equally delicious :) Â
Dish is a relatively small space, there's only about 7 table so I'd suggest making a reservation. Â Definitely save room for a homemade dessert. Â We shared the Lemon Blueberry Tart and it was the perfect summer dessert. The icing on the cake was the 1/2 price bottle of wine, which they do every Wednesday night.
Definitely recommend if you're looking for a Manhattan type restaurant right here in Mahopac!
UGH! Â I want to like this place so much more but the service there is HORRIBLE! Â It sucks that the service is so bad and the food is so good...
PLEASE!!! Â SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO BE BUSY AND MULTITASK APPLY FOR A JOB AT THIS PLACE!!!!
So, i went there yesterday 5/5 and had such a great lunch but the service was BAD BAD BAD. Â My food from yesterday, made me crave this place AGAIN today, so, I went there AGAIN today, Â DIFFERENT WAITRESS, SAME BAD SERVICE.
Kudos to the food! Â I really can't go back there for a while. Â Good luck to you if you go there because the food is great!
