This place was decently good. The front door is tiny, just a sign over some stairs and the entire restaurant is in the basement. It is cheerfully painted in bright red, green and yellow and definitely has some personality. I came by around 7PM on a Wednesday night, and other than one couple that was leaving as I arrived, the place was deserted. The service was ok, although they took forever to get my check. (I had finished eating 10 minutes before and was just patiently sitting there. Finally when the boy came by and asked me again "Is there anything else I can get for you?" I asked him for the check and he promptly got it to me.) Â The food was quite good and seemed very authentic. I had the Chile verde and a margarita on the rocks. It was all rather tasty. I am sure I will eat here again sometime.
Review Source:I was wondering why there weren't reviews on this place then I rolled into town and almost missed this place. It is downstairs and you could easily miss it or think its closed but if you are fortunate it will be open and you will find it. This place was great, it is small and the people are super friendly! Their pico is fresh and goes great with their homemade chips and salsa. We got filled up and our bill was super cheap! I like great mexi "home cooked" food and would stop here for it again if I pass through here and am craving it. Great place coming from a guy who knows Mexican food.
Review Source:Another pleasant surprise in Evanston. If you dont pay attention you can miss the entrance, but this restaurant is not to be missed.
This is REAL mexican food (not to be confused with texmex of fast food that is prevalent in the area) Everything is homemade and delicious.
We got the Carne asada plate and it was very good. The seasoning wasnt overly done and it was very tender. The rice and beans are home made and addictive.
Home made Hochata! A little creamy, just the right amount of cinnomon and nutmeg and free refills. I kept saying they should just leave the pitcher!
The family that owns, cooks and serves is really really nice and helpful. They are a highlight of the restaurant and show a family like attention to their customers.
A real find in Evanston and really worth the visit for this small family owned restaurant.
