What a great coffee shoppe environment! Â Perfect as a gathering center for the people of Athens. Â The baristas are clearly well trained and they are working on enhancing their crema-art skills. Â Nice choice of roasts. Â Second floor balcony patio is suberb!
We became very big fans!
Hands down the best coffee shop in Athens....none of the other coffee shops even come close.
Donkey almost always has great music playing in the background and a wonderful atmosphere to compliment a wide variety of delicious fair trade coffees and teas.  They make REAL cappuccino  and macchiato, not some sort of bastardized concoction like most other coffee shops in town.
Since leaving Athens, I've yet to find a coffee shop I love as much as Donkey!
I love Donkey. It's my favorite coffee shop in town. Wide selection of drinks. If you're looking for coffee in town, their cups are the best, hands down.
Awesome for late night study sessions, and during Ohio University's finals week at the end of each quarter, they stay open 24 hours a day for the week. Amazing.
All time favorite coffee shop! Â Of course, I'm preferential because I'm Bobcat Alumni. Â Spent many a'hour in here studying for finals and visiting with friends. Â If you need a place to hang, between Alden Library and here, you're set. Â
I especially appreciated their 24/7 hours during exam week. Â
I always loved their Poetry nights...but never read any myself. Â Maybe someday I'll return for a little poetry jam session.
Need to find a place to Study? Donkey
Need to find a place to catch up with a friend / host a less formal meeting / have a casual date? Donkey
Need to find a place to get great quality ingredients and an expansive menu for almost all tastes? Donkey
You will pay more at Donkey than you will at other Athens coffee shops. But you get what you pay for, in their product, the atmosphere, the wi-fi coverage that's pretty good, the eclectic people-watching, and more. 9/10 times I find it a better place to study or write a paper compared to the library.
Donkey is a must, even if you stop in a few times a year.
I love this place. Very relaxed atmosphere. Open late all the time. Comfy sofas and chairs. Oh yeah, they also have outstanding coffee. The milk they use is local and very fresh. You can really taste the difference in something like a Cafe Mocha. The coffee itself is perfect. Among the best I've ever had with no bitterness and a complex taste.
Review Source:This a great place to get a coffee and study or just lounge around. They have board games to play and plenty of seating. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere is great for just relaxing. I'd highly recommend this place as it's one of Athens most unique and fun places to hang out.
Review Source:I'm not much a coffee drinker but I stopped in here one afternoon when I had some time in between classes to check it out and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. Â I can't really judge the coffee but I had a cookie that I believe was from Crumb's Bakery that was damn good. Â The staff are extremely friendly and I'll have to make it back here sometime to try their tea and maybe some more of their cookies.
Review Source:Great coffee, staff and atmosphere. Mainly students but local people are made welcome as well. A nice combination of comfortable armchairs plus tables and chairs for groups to gather around as well.
It a busy place with lots of conversations happening, but you can usually find a quiet spot if you like. There are several different rooms to pick from, each with their own character.
Favorite coffee-shop. The colors are warm and cozy. Â This is the best place to study in colder parts of the year. Â If you can work with background noise, sometimes obnoxious conversation, you're good to go. Â Take your headphones and some music.
Good lighting throughout, with lots of art on the walls, which changes every month, I think. Â There are areas to be loud with friends and areas to be quiet for studying. Â Lots of space too, with the front, back and upstairs areas. Â In the back they do music and other events, so check their website schedule for that.
One problem is that it gets crowded around OU's midterms and finals. Â That can only be expected in a college town, though.
Their drinks are all pretty good, not that I'm a coffee, cappuccino, or latte expert or anything. Â I usually just get coffee with cream and sugar anyway. Â The staff is generally nice and helpful.
The baked goods they provide are mostly from local businesses, which is neat. Â Last I was there they also had various cold bottled drinks, yogurt cups, and bagels with cream cheese or peanut butter.
The prices are pretty average for a coffee shop.
