Very good breakfast.  The omelets were large and filled with creamy Tillamook cheese.  The potatoes were good.   My wheat toast was a little stale but my husband pointed out that I'm probably the only  customer who doesn't order sourdough!  I might have given this breakfast a 5 in Texas, but since moving to Washington my standards have raised considerably, and I now reserve 5's for places that go above and beyond with homemade bread, jams, etc.
Review Source:We did a search for a place for breakfast this last Monday and Downie's came up. Â I like to support local businesses and often find the food good. Â This is now on my list for a stop when at the coast. Â
My wife had a Denver omelet and I tried the chicken fried steak. Â Both were very good. Â My wife asked for a two egg omelet (menu has 3 eggs). Â She said that the fillings were cooked just right for her, veggies still had a little bite. Â I seldom order chicken fried steak because they seem over cooked and drowning in gravey. Â This steak was tender and the coating was exellent. (The menu mentioned hand breaded which was part of the reason that I choose this.) Â I prefer a sausage gravy with more sausage (We were there closer to lunch so is might have been close to the end of batch of gravy.) That said I would order it again.
While we were waiting for our breakfast I noticed Marrion Berry pie on the board. Â This is my FAVORITE pie (or dessert). Â I asked if they had a whole one. Â YES!! Â Needless to say that went home with us. Â (YES it is all gone! Â My wife and daughter got their share too - my wife said that I should put a frownie face here!).
Service was good and very friendly. Â There were 4 or 5 other tables full and lots of banter between the locals. Â If you like the small town, local eateries try Downie's and be sure to bring a spare pie plate to take home that pie! Â You know you want one!
Pros:
Good pancakes!
Cons:
grilled oyster sandwich was revolting
service (we were the only customers in the restaurant, and the waitress had a hard time pulling herself away from chatting with her friends in the kitchen and was really curt when she did manage to come over to the table)
