Worst place to go either for a drink or to eat, took almost half n hour to get a menu , and over an hour to get a tri tip sandwich (place was not even busy) very disorganized, Â all the waitresses seem to be walking around with there head up there ass, seem like only on person was doing everything (think his name is bryan) feel sorry for the guy just being a one man crew
Review Source:The beer is great. Â The waitress was terrific. Â The food was terrible. Â I had the BLAT and I have never seen such a small sandwich. Â The whole sandwich could have been half of any other restaurant's sandwich. Â The side salad was bigger than the entire sandwich. Â My husband had the French Dip. Â Small french roll and he said nothing remarkable about it. Â Will go back for a beer but not the food and difinetly not for the price we paid.
Review Source:This dive bar is a diamond in the rough. I had the Blackened ahi salad, and hubby had the bacon burger. The Ahi was cooked perfectly, although there could have been a little more going on in the salad and the dressing ( some kind of lime ginger balsamic?) Could have been a bit tangier and had a better balance of ingriedience ( a lil too much oil) The burger was cooked perfectly also- the patty bacon, nice and juicy even though it appeared to be well done. But it was lacking seasoning. There was one other  table and the service was kind of lacking and slow, although they were nice about it. It has potential for sure, good portions, fairly reasonable prices a great location. If they could perfect their recipes and work on service/ time management? It would be a great little place to come and eat. It is nice inside. Hopefully they will read this and work on a few things. Like I said before the chef knows how to properly cook, just needs to fine tune a few things. Its hard to find a decent chef and they have one ( or two) so take advantage of it.
Review Source:Worst restaurant experience ever! Â Service was HORRIBLE! Â Took forever for someone to finally take our order, took 45 minutes to get our food, and I had to send mine back because the burrito was cold inside and the rice and beans were hard. Â She asked if I wanted something else, but I told her it had taken 45 minutes just to get that and I didn't have that kind of time. Â Oh, and there were only about 5 other tables eating, so who knows what took so long. Â A group sat down next to us and ended up leaving because no one ever bothered to come help them.
Review Source:awful. my boyfriend and I were visiting my parents in Paso and my mom said she got an online deal for this place she had never tried. well, number 1, we didn't expect to be eating in a trashy bar. but we gave it a chance. I got their turkey sandwich with chiles, gross. my mom and boyfriend got the French dip, dry bread with steak pieces in the middle. my dad wanted fish and chips but they ran out of fish. oh & we bought two coupon deals and they said we could only use one, so my parents have to go back and use the other one. I think their bar food might be their specialty. oh and our server was kind of sassy!
Review Source:Super fun downtown Paso location. Â I loved the open deck upstairs and loved having a sunny weekend lunch with a friend up there, was disappointed when they put the windows in but it was still great. Â Went to a great comedy night there once and had many nice lunches. Â They had a spicy chicken wrap that was to die for. Â Also fun to try the different beers. Â My favorite was to get a pint of half Honey Blonde and Half Wheat, delicious!
Review Source:I love the Downtown Brew in SLO for lunch, but the Paso Robles branch - yikes! Â I met my husband and his work buddies there for lunch. Â
Food took F-O-R-E-V-E-R to arrive an a huge gap between when people were served. Â So by the time everyone's food arrived, the first person's was cold. Â
The food was not that good and very overpriced for what we all got. Â They severely burnt the toast on my husband's sandwich on one side and tried to hide it by putting the burnt side down on the plate. Â
The waitress did the best she could, but the food and speed was really bad. Â I won't be back for lunch, it was that bad.
When asking whats to do after 9pm. In the town of paso robles, theyre weren't very many options, this was the most happening place. My friend and I were celebrating her birthday and after dinner decided we needed to make the most out of our taxi cost so we walked on down to this place. Staff was nice but man the girls in the joint were so rude and gave nasty stares. Definitely a local spot and with us being waaaay overdressed we just shrugged it off and continued to have our own fun, drinks were moderately priced and large servings not any dinky baby shots. The layout is cool, spacious with lots of beer pong tables available and the DJ that night was awesome.
Review Source:It was nice to have a place in town to do come dancing. The DJ was great when he started out around 10pm and there were just a few people out dancing and enjoying themselves, but the later it gets the dirtier the music and clientele gets. If you're not there for the dirty rap, then I'd recommend leaving before midnight.
Review Source:What a shame. On a family wine-tasting trip, I begged and pleaded to get some beer in the trip since I'm the resident beer geek. We didn't have enough time to do the Firestone Walker Brewery tour (boo!) so we settled on lunch at Downtown Brew Company. This was a mistake. As Gob would say, "I made a huge mistake."
I ordered the beer sampler so I could try all their brews, and I got a BBQ chicken salad wrap. The wrap was okay --- too heavy on the ranch dressing (which was altogether unnecessary anyway) but nice and crunchy anyway. My boyfriend's nachos were good but too loaded down to really be able to eat more than 3 or 4 chips.
If I were only rating on the food, I'd give this place 3 stars, but I had major gripes with the staff and the beer, so minus 2 stars each. Any place that calls themselves a brewery ought to know something about beer. Here's what I learned about their beer. Their Blueberry Ale is just a bland, light, Budweiser-tasting beer WITH BLUEBERRIES SERVED IN IT. Sorry, but you don't put fruit in beer. It's not a mixed drink. If you call it a Blueberry Ale, it better have some blueberries involved in the fermentation process or at least as added flavors at the end of the brewing process. Not as an accessory. Shameful. Next, their wheat beer would pale in comparison to a Shock Top -- yes, that mass-produced blandness that Anheuser Busch shills in every grocery store and Rite Aid in the country -- it was okay, but seriously not worth my money. I'd like to point out that their porter was just eh, their blonde ale was just eh, and their IPA was....you guessed it....just eh! All the beer tasted like watered down name-brand stuff. My boyfriend also specifically ordered an IPA and was served a blonde ale, but we seriously couldn't even get the waitress' attention to come over so he could ask for her to switch it out for the correct beer.
Moreover, the staff failed to do anything about the fact that the party directly next to our table was smoking. It's 2012, people. When I was a kid, there was at least a smoking section so those of us who don't smoke could be free of the smokers. But it's the 21st century, and smoking is illegal in public places, especially places where food is consumed, so we had every right to enjoy our meal without any second-hand smoke....yet there they were, all four of them, chain-smoking for our entire stay at DTB. Everyone in my party - myself included - was far too meek to speak out about it, to ask a stranger to put out their disgusting cancer sticks, so we just sat coughing and gagging for 45 minutes. The waitress came out and OFFERED THEM AN ASHTRAY so clearly DTB is not only tolerant of smoking but encouraging of it. Did I mention that it's 2012 and that smoking in a restaurant is ILLEGAL?
Finally, the staff were incredibly hard to get ahold of, and we actually waited so long for the check that we all packed up and walked in and asked the first waitstaff we saw to take our freakin' credit card to pay for their weak-ass beer and so-so food.
I am really mixed on this one I went for the food not for drinking. Â
If you want a bar with good food when you are drunk this may be a good choice.
Their flat iron steaks & burgers we great - excellent flavor just the right amount of charing. Their fish and chips should be removed from the menu the fish was too greasy & the fries were really sub-par.
The place is really really dirty. Worse than a bar in a college town. The elevator had dirt on the floor that hadn't been cleaned in a long long time. The bathroom had the same spots on the ceiling both times I visited.
Their beer is OK the wheat ale tasted a little moldy. I am partial to blue moon.
The first time I went I was a fan (steak) the second I was repulsed (fish and chips). I had some stomach issues. I won't be back unless I am drinking and want to take them up on their nightly specials which really are a great value.
For a small downtown in a town that shuts down early, this place is great. It is upstars at the end of the strip and is open late. We were here on a Saturday night and they had a DJ with no cover. The crowd was great and this is the place to dance!
Drinks were reasonably priced, but I would stay away from the food however. We had baked potatoes just as the kitchen was closing and after several repeated attempts to clarify the order, they still go it wrong.
This place is ok, and its proximity to the place I was staying for the holidays made it a prime location for a visit. The drinks are strong, I liked the smoking patio a lot and its proximity to the dancefloor and thus, the music.
Unfortunately, I think the staff should pay a bit more attention to the intoxication level of the patrons. Throughout the night the same 2 or 3 guys who were absolutely PLASTERED who basically ran me over all night. I was hit over and over AND OVER and watched as these drunkards continued to be served. REALLY guys?! If you're so drunk you are running over women, shouldn't the bar stop serving???
The DJ was good and did well mixing the requests into his playlist. I got to dance a fair amount and that was the goal.
Where to begin:
Any place where someone clips their toenails and leaves them gets 1 star for me (this is one of those places where 0 stars would come in handy).. yes they were there in the "VIP lounge?" which looked like someone had skeet skeet skeet over the couches... It was by far one of the most disgusting t hings I have seen at a club/lounge EVER.
One of the guys working there
1. spit on the steps as we were walking up (awesome)
2. was totally hitting on one of the girls in our party despite the fatty 2 karat diamond on her left finger and would not leave her be...
The positives:
The DJ was super friendly and even had a clipboard where you could request songs.. I thought it was cute and he mixed in 90% of the songs the girls requested. Â
The bouncers were also nice
The vodka cranberry was huge (and apparently did the trick)
This place needs a remodel..
in some places it tries to be classy and then is a the epitome of disgusting, dirty and beyond the most unkempt biker bar you can image.
I went to this establishment for a beer, hoping it was a descent brewery. I walked in and was not noticed, by any employee for a reasonable amount of time. I walked to the bar, and the bartender was too occupied chatting with what seemed like friends. I ended up walking out very disappointed with the service.
The food is nothing to write home about. I have been here about 5-6 times for other coworkers birthday lunch's and have not been impressed. This place must be surviving off the San Luis location as this one is two thumbs down. If more people ignore this place maybe they will bring back Village Host Pizza.
Definitely embarrassing restaurant to have in Downtown Paso. DTB, move to San Miguel or Shandon.
It's a shame when one star feels like too many. Â Worst service in town, hands down. Â Not just bad service, but downright rude. Â It's very evident that the management could care less about the attitude of their employees, that alone the service they provide. Â
As if the service wasn't bad enough to discourage you from patronizing the restaurant/bar, you will quickly also realize that if you are visiting for food you better have some time on your hands -you will not see your food for a good hour after arriving and placing your order. Â No joke.
Speaking of food...have you been in the bathrooms?! Â I have been in cleaner bathrooms in third-world countries. Â If the bathrooms are any indication of the condition of the kitchen, it's a wonder how this joint can pass the health inspections. Â Repulsive.
If you can look past the bathroom situation, there is one area that DTB earns their one star: menu selection and food. Â I continue to revisit, hoping for a new experience, but after my last episode I have decided to save my dollars and time and hit up a more reputable restaurant that are nearby (Berry Hill, Pappy's, Paso Robles Inn, Mission Pizza, etc.). Â I recommend you do the same!
We ended up here three times in the course of our time in Paso for a Wine Tasting weekend. Â First for a quick drink before a midnight movie. Â Second for a beer before dinner after a rainy day of winetasting. Â Third, for a late, casual dinner. Â
The house brews are good (and on thursdays, quite a deal!), though the blueberry ale is an ale+blueberries, not a blueberry flavored/brewed ale. Â the mixed drinks are served in pint glasses and aren't weak!
The beer selection is pretty broad and there really is something for everyone from bud light to Kona to shocktop to the house brews.
The menu is also very wide ranging. Â It's all typical pub food (burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, fries, nachos) but it's all tasty, and not excessively priced. Â not the place to go for a diet or for a nice meal, but definitely enjoyable. Â
Watching people electronically hunt is always fun, as is the beer pong table that gets going at night. Â Around 10 the kitchen closes and it goes from restaurant to club, but generally solid place.
If you're planning a Paso visit, check out the list for other relevant recommendations from our trip!
I am a paso local and think the food SUCKS. Thank god I had a coupon to use for our dinner because I would not want to pay full price. Paso has great places  downtown like villa creek for Mexican, basil for Thai, yunagais for sushi and if you want good bar food go to the kilt up the street. Won't be going back to eat at downtown brew but maybe for a beer. The service is good because they are never busy!
Review Source:Stiffness. Â Stiffely. Â Stiffy. Â Stifftastic. Â Stiffalicious.
One common denominator:
STIFF.
No matter what you call it, everyone loves a stiff drink, right? Â Well, if you do, don't expect too much outta this joint. Â Their drinks aren't bad, just average.
However, the things you CAN expect are great service from their friendly bartenders, ass-kickin' Halloween decorations, yummy "MUST HAVE" garlic french fries and a spankin' good time.
DTB is located conveniently located in the heart of Downtown Paso and is within walking distance to just about everything. Â Cheap food specials almost every day of the week. Â Friendly and fun patrons. Â Accomodating bartenders *ahem - Justin- ahem* that are awesome (even if you're a Country music lover like myself). Â Most importantly, a chance to showcase all your years of practice in the ancient art of Beer Pong on Tuesday nights.
We Mapquested the spot and passed it when we realized it was on the 2nd floor corner of the block.
Climbing the stairs we saw signs for amazing sounding specials like $1 taco Mondays, 2 Steak Dinners Tuesdays for $14.99, Â 29 cent wing night Wednesdays, and on Sunday - 50 cent rib night. Figures we'd be here on one of the non-special nights - Saturday.
A dark place with TV screens, a couple of video games, a lot of tables and chairs, even a pull up bar area.
There were a number of people eating, mostly from a large group, but the rest of the joint was quiet.
You've seen this place many times, every town has one - an old reliable divey pub but I could see this would've been the default meeting place had we still be in college.
My buddy and I parked ourselves at the bar and ordered their own craft brews. I had the Porter - a rich, surprisingly delicious brew, that I quickly finished mine to make room for another. My friend ordered the Wheat and the IPA, both solid choices and the cute, nubile bartender gal was able to let us sample before ordering.
Pints were only $4. They have a happy hour (Monday to Friday) from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm - cocktails $2 and their own craft beers half price.
Downtown Brew doesn't seem like THE destination for the night but a great base of operations to launch from.
Food and beer selection is decent for a large Paso bar/restaurant. Â Have only ever gone in during a Holiday weekend, stopping between SF/Monterey and LA. Â Staff is always friendly and service is good. Â Food is just OK, nothing to write home about.
Good lunch special -- buy one lunch, get the other 50% off with the purchase of two drinks.
First time in Paso Robles and it's such a cute town. Â First of all, we took a cab and the car was a minivan. Â We stuffed 8 people + cab drive in one cab and the total drive was $5.50. Â That's so dirty cheap! Â
The restaurant was cool and they let us rearrange the tables/furniture any way we want. Â We ordered a bunch of yummy appetizers and pitchers of beer. Â By 10 or 11pm the lights dimmed down and music came up and it's like a club. Â Fun!
If I lived in this town I'd go back.
This place has an awesome setup and awesome DJ's but NO crowd. The food is ok (cheap), the brew is satisfactory (not my favorite). Seems like a place like this would do well in Paso, but it's usually pretty dead whenever I come in. Awesome daily specials though, if your looking for a cheap evening!
Review Source:This is the place to go if you are young and looking for a good time. It's got okay food.... nothing I really crave.... or that stands out.
They are one of the hopping places at night in Paso. Not a whole lot to choose from in way of night life but I think if I were younger I would probably hang out here. Though you are sure to run into friends and also people you may not want to run into eventually~ this is just too small of a town!
They have some great deals on specials of different days of the week.... Taco night... wings night... etc...
Paso Robles is a podunk town. Â I rolled into the downtown area around 6pm on Christmas evening. Â I quickly learned that very few places are open on 12/25 in this town. Â Downtown Brewing was one of maybe four open dining establishments. Â They had a skeleton crew of 4-5 people working, and the Chargers-Titans game was on, bringing at least 50 people to the place. Â In spite of being understaffed and open late on the big holiday of the year, the food was very good and the service was decent. Â I had a couple oatmeal stouts, an appetizer combo, and a half tri-tip salad. Â I couldn't have been happier! Â Their menu is basically bar food, but it's good bar food, and the atmosphere is nice as well. Â
Thank you, Downtown Brewing, for saving me from a Denny's or McD's Christmas dinner!
So on our way to wine taste, but decided we wanted to beer taste. The BF and I were going to go to Firestone, but then I remembered Downtown Brew! We had the sampler I have to say not too bad. Our favorite was the Reggae Red behind was mine the Blueberry Ale because it was not sweet at all but a great brew complimented by blueberries and very refreshing. We will defiantly be back as we would like to take Reggae Red Home! The food well normal fried stuff not anything great so that's where they lose stars with me!
