Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Â This time I had one of those impressive looking Bloody Mary's. Â YUM. Â Did not disappoint.
A trend I'm noticing at Doyles - it takes a while to get your food. Â Plan on waiting at least 30 minutes. Â Hubby had the Guiness Chili and I had a BLT Wrap. Â 30 minutes from ordering until the food was at the table. Â Also, it's a bit pricy for what it is. Â My BLT wrap was $10.99, other wraps are also $10.99 (which I can't understand why a grilled chicken sandwich is cheaper than a wrap). Â
I felt really bad for the table next to us. Â 5 people dining - placing their order when we were being seated. Â When we left, they STILL had not received their food. Â Plan on being extremely patient for your food to arrive, or in the mood to dine at a leisurely pace.
Despite the above, I'll stick with 3 stars. Â A-Ok.
Well I see that there are not many reviews (8), and half are 2007-2009. So the reviews need serious updating and some positive shouts.
We live in Schaumburg and go there 2 -3 x a year for last 3 years. It has always been a positive experience regardless of day. ( we have usually gone Sat. Or Sun. afternoon. Â Our most recent visit was Friday afternoon.
on this visit, I got the Beer battered cod with hush puppies, cole slaw, and optional potato pancakes. Â It was the lunch portion and I was very pleased. The fish was very tasty n not over cooked. The potatoe pancakes were amazing.
My usual order is the Ruben, billed as "the best outside on NY City", and it is not an overstatement. Consistently, outstanding sandwich.
A word about SERVICE. Â It has been consistently prompt, attentive, friendly and helpful. I can't imagine getting better.
In the past, we have the fresh made soups, and other sandwiches. Â Al have been good choices. Â The chilli was good but a bit salty for my taste,
Highly recommend to all
Just got back from the "famous" fish fry at Doyle's. YIKES!!!!~ Fish was ok, I had broiled and the BF had fried. TARTER SAUCE???? I think NOT! It was more like dill spread that could have seasoned an entire catch of salmon in Alaska! When I told the waitress that it was a bit different she explained that it was home made. And that should make a difference???? Â Home made bad food is STILL bad food! Â There were two balls sitting on the plate that looked suspiciously like hush puppies - WRONG!!! I was married to a stump jumper for 17 years, I KNOW how to make hush puppies and these were soggy, mushy, dead dogs!
Who cares about the atmosphere, just give me some good food, please!!!
To be fair, we have been there 2 other times and the food was pretty good. Maybe I'll go back .............someday.
I stopped in with some friends at Doyle's for a brewski and appetizers.
The atmosphere is welcoming and on nice days I am sure that the deck and "front porch" area are the places to be.
No problem with service other than having to ask for silverware and napkins. I was somewhat surprised that these weren't brought while the food was being prepared- but it was resolved quickly so no big deal.
Overall I felt it was a nice place to stop and have a beer or 2.
It started out well enough-lots of cars, packed bar, a wait for a table, so we thought we had landed on a promising eating spot to add to our rotation when we are in town. Â The owner was friendly and found us a spot at the bar, and the fellow there poured a couple of tasty black and tans while we waited to be seated. Â When we arrived at our table, the friendly waitress took our orders and we should have been warned when her response to our question about how the liver and onions, instead of an endorsement, was that she hadn't had any complaints about it. So my partner order it, while I got the fish and chips. Â My dinner was acceptable, Â but from the very first bite of the liver, it was clear that something was off. Â We told the waitress and she cleared it away, but didn't offer a replacement meal. Â It ended up that we were still charged half the cost of the dinner. Â So what started out well ended up with a dining experience we will not repeat. Â Too bad, too. Â It's a cute place.
Review Source:They had pretty standard pub food and had cider on tap. Â Service was fine, fast, and friendly. Â
On Wednesday and on Saturdays they have corned beef and cabbage. Â One of the people we were with ordered it and it smelled and looked delicious. Â I should have ordered that. Â I ordered the Italian dipper sandwich and the beef could have been sliced thinner and it wasn't as tender as a normal beef sandwich. Â The appetizers we ordered - breaded mushrooms, potato skin wedges, and wings were good too. Â We only went here because we were visiting a friend in the area. Â If we are back to visit, not sure if we'd go back. Â We were there on a Saturday night and it seemed pretty dead for a Saturday.
The service is soooooo slow that at one point my kids actually asked if we could go home.
The server was friendly, but that doesn't make up for the painfully slow delivery. In a restaurant that had an occupancy of about 15 people at 6pm on a Saturday night, the food should be flying out of the kitchen. We placed our order at 6:10pm, and by 6:45 we still didn't have our meals. We ordered a burgers and fries, a patty melt, a kids pizza and kids chicken fingers - none of those should have taken more then 20 minutes.
We tried to find our server to cancel the meals, but he was nowhere to be found. I asked one of the other servers if it was always that slow and she thought I meant the crowd...when I told her I was referring to the speed of the kitchen she paused for a minute and then said that she'd go check on our food for us. She never came back. When our server delivered our food about 10 minutes later, it was without an apology or explanation of any kind.
The decor is nothing special - if it's been redone then I can't imagine what it looked like before - the paint is peeling, the ceilings are cracked and the restaurant has a distinctly "musty" smell, at least in the room where we were sitting.
The ladies room is a nightmare - my daughter walked in and then immediately walked back out and asked me to go in there with her because it was "creepy". There was a big note on the wall inside from management, stating that if women couldn't properly dispose of their "personal hygiene" items then they would prefer they throw them on the floor as opposed to flushing them and clogging the pipes. NICE! Luckily, nobody had taken them up on that suggestion...
I understand that this is a "small town" establishment, but that doesn't excuse the poor service, especially for the price. Our bill for those mediocre meals (with a soft drink) was over $50 when we begrudgingly added our tip. If I could have given 1.5 stars I would have deducted the half for the restrooms. We won't be returning.
As is usually typical with me, I get so involved with the day and the excitement of my weekend adventures that I forget to eat. Â And then suddenly I realize I am weak and starving and have to go somewhere, anywhere, before I collapse.
But see, over by Richmond way, there ain't too much to choose from, unless you enjoy the fast food (which I don't). Â Oddly, for all the quaint shops they offer, they have almost no restaurants. Â There is a fancy Italian place, which wasn't going to work since we were dressed like schlubs, so Doyle's was the only other choice.
The interior of Doyle's is pretty half-assed, hunter green painted panelling with weird random stuff tacked to the wall, and formica tables. There is an outside seating area, which seemed nicer, but we were told "there's bees out there today" so we opted to stay inside. Â The bathroom is seriously in my top 10 of worst bathrooms ever. Â Imagine an airplane bathroom where everything is just a bit too old, broken and rickety for your liking. Â Yeah, like that. Â
As for the service, we had a girl who had mastered the rather vacuous "dear-lord-if-I-could-be-anywhere-but-here" stare but who was also pretty speedy bringing the order over. Â My grilled chicken sandwich was dry, but edible and the fries that came with it were nothing special.
Basically, you could do a whole lot better, and a bit worse. Â Or you could just be better prepared than me and eat somewhere before you get to this neck of the woods.
We wanted to go to some steak place in Wilmot, WI..not far from Richmond and it was packed and well, I don't eat steak and they had 5 things on the menu steak, more steak, Â grizzle (not really) shrimp, Â and lobster. But it did look like a great place for drinks, they have a famous Pink Squirrel...you don't see that everyday but it was not for me. Doyle's was the only other place we knew of in the area, unfortunately we didn't drive around Richmond much because as it turns out there is a bistro down the street. I was with my mom and at first sight I was concerned with the large amount of bikers but we gave it a shot. The best thing about my experience was they give you a basket of packaged crackers with butter, I can't remember the last time I've seen that. I am a bit of a picky eater so I got a cold sandwich and then I was worried what my mom would get...oh she soaked up the atmosphere...and got a full slab of ribs! That's my mom, a real motorcycle mama. Needless to say, next time I'm up in this neck of the woods I might stop in for a beer, but there HAS to be better pub grub around.
Review Source:Doyle's is a great place for dinner. Â Their food is very good and prices are very reasonable. Â Service is good too.
The last time I was here, Doyle's had a big steak on special for $17 which was excellent. Â I would dare say it blew away a good number of places, including Outback. Â My steak came exactly as ordered, and the service was excellent.
During the summer, this place tends to get a good number of bikers (read: nice people who ride motorcycles, not the stereotypical criminal nasty guy). Â This tends to be a good sign because it means that they serve good food and have decent prices on both food and drink.
As a side note, don't let the map fool you... Doyle's is on the corner of Mill and Rt. 12
I would recommend this place to everyone. Â Doubly so if you are looking for a family and rider friendly place for dinner.
