This place looks kind of scary along the road to St. Helena, but inside you will find a classy shop with some excellent wines from smaller producers who don't have their own tasting rooms. Â Late on a Saturday afternoon, we had the shop to ourselves, and our host was friendly and very well informed about the wines he was pouring.
They've got coupons for a free tasting scattered around the valley, so look for one before you go.
This is my favorite tasting room in the Napa Valley, and being a local I have been to many! Tim is extremely knowledgeable, and has been in the business for 20+ years. He is very helpful in providing information not only on the wines you are trying there, but also with pairing, suggesting other wines or wineries or restaurants to try! Â The shop is classy but quirky with laminated pictures of famous figures hidden or displayed around. The wines are spectacular, prices are very reasonable, and they always have some kind of deal going on. I take anyone I have visiting to this place for a fun and intimate experience.
Review Source:Just like the first reviewer of A Dozen Vintners, we were looking for a place that had tastings of Howell Mountain Wine. Â This place not only had HM, but a whole lot of other wines (well 11 other wineries right?). Â The tastings are $10, but we got ours refunded when we purchased some bottles. Â Even if you don't buy anything the cost is sooo worth it; you'll get to taste anywhere between 7-10 different wines from several different wineries. Â The service is wonderful; they really know their wines and know the winery business. Â
This is an excellent place to try some of the smaller wineries that don't have tasting rooms without having to drive from place to place.
Since one of my favorite Napa wineries doesn't have a tasting facility, this is one of the places that offers tasting of Fife. That was my singular mission at first, but then the knowledge and hospitality of the people that worked here started to shine through, we were all enamored with the place. They took the time to talk to us through the history of the vineyards, the wines they had on hand, and some great food pairings (notably the great block of dark chocolate on the counter). One of the staff also had hundreds of stories and was purely entertaining by himself. A wonderful destination for many of the great wines Napa has to offer.
