MMHHMM now it could of just been me highly intoixcated, but i really enjoyed this place. Nice memorabilia all over the walls definitely screams DUG OUT! My table and I shared hot wings, which I was quite impressed with. I'm very picky when it comes to wings and the spice and size of them made all the better. I loved how they gave large cuts of celery and carrots. Veggies are amazing. I had the Dug Out burger which was your basic hamburger w all the trimmings..if u should so desire. I love how they gave BIG spear pickles MMM favorite part. Sadly I did not enjoy a Blue Moon here. I also still walked out intoxicated. Nice clean bathrooms tho! Also AWESOME! Loved it.
Review Source:I hate to have to give any establishment in this economy such a low rating, but 5 words.. This Place Needs Bar Rescue!! The only thing this place has that is good, was game coverage. To start the menus were sticky, and looked like they haven't been disinfected in years. The food was terrible I ordered a chicken club, the chicken tasted like it was dehydrated, and the whole thing was dry and bready. The fries were frozen too. I felt like ordering chicken wings but they had none on the menu, as we were leaving I saw the server come out with a plate of them (honestly they did me a favor by not putting them on the menu) Don't know how they managed to mess up a hamburger, but they did.. no lettuce or tomatoe on it.. Really? 2 beers, 1 coke a club sandwhich and haburger cost $50 (undeserved tip included)
Review Source:i come here most Sunday's to watch football (49ers specifically) i bring my wife and daughter and they can occupy themselves with iPads (free WiFi here) if the game gets boring for them) the food is great 90% of the time AND every time there is something i didn't like, i tell them and they willingly fix immediately.
They make good services decisions and are always very nice. I recommend this place for any family who wants to watch a game...and if you done want to watch sports...the burgers and fries are as good as you're gonna get in the area.
we don't really drink so i cant comment on the beers on tap or quality of alcohol. i like this place the way it is and hope they never make it more about the bar than they do about the games, atmosphere and food...
maybe upgrade the games in the corner for the kids...seems like nobody's coming up on that deal?! ;)
Ugh been meaning to write a review for a while. My boyfriend and I got Nachos here, which looked sketchy to begin with, dry raw jalepenos, and dry pieces of steak, but we ate it anyways. Â We both got severe food poisoning and I spent the next miserable 24 hours with chills, fever, vomiting and diarrhea. I think because I kept it in my system longer, I wasn't able to eat real food for a week without it running through me. It was truly miserable. Â The plus side is that they have decent beers on tap for cheap...normally I love dive bars, but contaminated food is where i draw the line.
Review Source:This place has it tough.. This is a bar first. If you give it a poor rating because you did not like the vegetarian sandwich and it was too loud.. Maybe you should should some of the blame? Give your choice of venue a 2 star for choosing the wrong place perhaps?
Bottom line is the beer is cold the bartenders and owners are cool. They support the local brews and they make their regulars happy. Food is what it is.. Bar food. It taste great hen you are 5 beers deep and your team is winning.
Terrible experience!! Was hoping for an easy going dinner in a cool sports bar and was disappointed with bad customer service. It seemed as though my table was ignored. We noticed that every other table was received with warm smiles but we sure weren't. I think that our skin was just a bit too dark for the Dugout's liking. The food wasn't worth it at all.
Review Source:So I hate to really review family-ish sports bars in suburbia...but hey this is Yelp - so I do this for the community..
I give this place props for the brand new, large flat screens..plenty of sports coverage here...Now onto the no-no's...
kids kids kids -____- look...its a sports bar that offers food, ppl please.. I don't want to have toddlers running in between my legs while I am sipppin brew and focused on sports. There must have been 13 kids in there..maybe its just me, but not a fan
Food was very subpar...bland and sort of what you might expect from a spot like this. Service was rather slow...and not to top it off..they ran out of Hef by noon...sry but if you only have a handle of beers on tap..a no no is to tap out that early on a weekend.
Not a fan, I might take my interest to another sports bar...perhaps Cronies
We got the turkey bacon avo, Philly cheese, local IPA and a double barrel. They got the order just right from the exclusion of mushrooms to water with no ice.
The beer is cold, the fries are golden and crispy and peppered to perfection. Crispy bacon, fresh avocado, juicy turkey... And from across the table, sounds of pleasure that would make you blush (from the cheesesteak). Four thumbs up here!
The food is garbage but they at least have some good beers on tap. Â We bought a couple http://restaurant.com coupons and decided to give it a shot on a Sunday afternoon. Â
They had several Firestone beers on tap including the Double Jack, a personal favorite, so I had high hopes. Â We had the burgers, salads, and quesadilla...all gross, even for pub food. Â No one finished their meal.
To watch a game and have beer, definitely. Â For lunch or dinner? Only if you have several beers ahead of time.
Love this place. Â Big ice-cold beers, friendly staff, tons of big flat screens and tasty food. Â What more can you ask for? Â Try the Sherminator burger if you have a Big appetite. Â Wings are spicy and good. Â The fries are awesome. Â By far the best place to catch a ballgame in the area. Â It's also very kid friendly.
Review Source:have really only gone there to watch red sox, celtics and bruin games. been boughten drinks multiple times when i wear my celtics or sox jersey, assuming the bartenders are fans. awesome place to have some beers and hang out with friends. waiters waitresses very friendly if you want to watch a game they'll set you up with the infinite amount of tvs they have all playing something. owners and really cool, usually see them hanging out at the bar and converse with everyone at the bar. got food a couple times and loved everything i've ordered. best sports bar in moorpark, thousand oaks, simi valley, westlake or newbury park
Review Source:My husband and I were in the area shopping. It was lunchtime, we were hungry, and there this place was. We walked in and saw that it was a sports bar.....that's cool. No matter where one sits, you can see a TV, and that's great. On that particular day, their special was a patty melt, and since we both like them, we each ordered one, and we both got fries as a side. I got mine with a side of ranch. The melt came with jack cheese, which I had never had........usually american cheese. While it tasted good, it wasn't what I was used to, so it threw me a off a little, but it was still good, maybe a little more bland with it this way. The fries didn't taste greasy, and they had a really good flavor. What was absolutely wonderful was their ranch dressing. They put something else in there to just knock it a notch above the package dressing we can all make. I never figured out what that secret ingredient was, nor did I think to ask. I just enjoyed it.
We went back another time, and this time, a major sporting event was on. Â Yes, it was loud, but that's half the fun of celebrating (or snickering at the other team) with like-minded people. Â As for the food, I happened to order their patty melt again, this time, I asked for american cheese, and it tasted just fine, the way I like it. Â My husband got a meatball sandwich the second time, and he actually didn't like it at all. Â This time, the fries were a little greasy, but they tasted good all the same. Â I'd still go back....we just haven't yet.
So here's the deal - I like this place a lot, and I'll tell you why. But first...
For those that are complaining about the noise - it is a sports bar and grill. Â Turns out that people may want to hear the games instead of just having them on as some sort of moving art piece. Â Wierd, I know, but true.
The atmosphere is completely in line with the theme - tons of memorabilia on the walls, plus several pieces of local sports items (Little League, Moorpark High School) as befits a local establishment. Â And the tvs are nice, good quality flat screens upon which to cheer your favorite team. Â
The food is good, plain and simple. Â They have something for everyone, with a large assortment of sandwiches, burgers and salads. Â I have yet to try a bad burger there, so those are good options. Â The chicken sandwiches are also good choices for those that don't eat burgers. Â The fries are also good, shoestring style, not too crispy, with seasoning (so be aware if you don't like your fries seasoned). Â The portions are generous, so you may be bringing home some leftovers.
They have a full service bar with a good selection of beers on tap (about 10 or so if memory serves), and they come in 12, 20 or 24 oz glasses.
So, good food, great place to watch a game, good variety of beers on tap. Â If you're looking for a good place to watch a game and/or get a good burger, this is your place. Â Get in the game....
This place is a gem of Moorpark. Â Service was friendly and efficient and the prices were really fair. Was really surprised by the quality of food at this place which for a sports bar was as good as it gets. Â Only drawbacks is that it straddles the line between being a sports bar/family hangout. Â Even so its probably the coziest sports bar in VC and you have to appreciate the effort that they've put in to making it the best place that they possibly can. Â Will gladly head over there next time I have to watch a Husker pay per view.
Review Source:We showed up here for a special run through the Ventura County Star........$10 on your credit card gets you $20.00 worth of food and drink. Wow - glad we did! I read the reviews here first and they were kind of mixed.......didn't know what to expect! Read that the "O" rings were great - they are, and were well worth the extra $1 to substitute for fries with my burger! I had the California Burger (med well) without bacon and added grilled fresh jalapenos - it was excellent - 5 stars for the burger - none better anywhere I've been in Ventura County PERIOD! It tasted like ground sirlion, cooked perfectly with fresh veggies and an artisan type bun - they undercharge for their burgers - this was exceptional! Nice atmosphere, plenty of big sreens, great service - I was personally asked twice by employees if the sound was too loud. we both had Newcastle drafts and they were good $5 20 oz draft (that's where you lost half a star!) Happy hour appetizers are only $2 off (another half a star) Most serious happy hours are happier than yours.............. ala 50% OFF APPETIZERS, and two for one drink specials - that being said STILL WORTH EVERY BIT OF 4 STARS - I wouldn't really go for happy hour because there are better deals elsewhere..............but for a burger and a beer anytime I'm coming back here! Oh yeah - one more thing - my star rating system:
1 STAR - Wouldn't feed my dog the leftovers - Rename your establishment "PASS" and save everyone else the trouble.
2 STARS - If your "place" is the only place open and you have a 2 for 1 special I MIGHT EAT THERE to give it one more try - expect a 2nd review!
3 STARS - Average to a tad above average. Decent food, service, atmosphere - still wouldn't reccomend you to my closest friends.
4 STARS - When out of town guests are visiting this is where I am taking them to impress them with your (my) specialty items. Will reccomend you to everyone - tips @ 20% minimum 4 good service.
5 STARS - We are spending the weekends at your place! Â YOU ROCK THE CULINARY WORLD - No one else compares to your mastery of food, drink, Â atmosphere, and price!!! (IN THAT ORDER)
After a VERY long football season and an awesome basketball season, I feel I can finally review The Dugout unbiasedly.
It's not a horrible place to go- but if I have to sit through another football season, I hope it'll be somewhere else. Decent bar food (onion rings are pretty bomb!), good beers on tap and plenty of TVs to go around. But when it gets busy and your party is bigger than 4, expect to wait. Wait for your food, wait for your drinks, wait for a straw, wait to see anyone who works there. It seems like they don't have enough waitresses/waiters to go around. My other stitch is the prices. Good lord! I asked for an extremely spicy Bloody Mary on a Sunday morning. Asked for it twice. Then asked for a bottle of tabasco so I could doctor it up myself because the bar tender didn't quite get the concept of extra spicy. And when I got the bill, nearly fell out of my seat. $9.95?! What? On a Sunday? Did they make their own vodka? Did they serve that in a gold goblet?! I was unaware.
Love the idea of a fun atmosphere, sports bar in Moorpark. Drop the prices, hire a few more people and it'll amp up the quality, big time. Just an idea.
Went here to watch a dodger game and to check out the newly opened bar. Has plenty of TVs so watching games here is enjoyable, has enough good beers on tap to keep the average drinker happy (though the prices are a little high), and the menu is solid. I had a burger with pastrami on it (don't recall what they called it) and it was large and flavorful. The girl that served us was outgoing and pretty fast.
Not much to complain about but beer is a little pricey and the place isn't huge. Overall I would say its worth watching a game there and enjoying solid food. Not a go to place but certainly not a bad option.
I wish I could remember the food. Â But you know what, it doesn't matter. Â This place has good beer on tap, and about a zillion TV's that you can see from any seat in the place. Â I hate going to sports bars that don't have the game on I want to see, or where I'm so far away that I have to strain my eyes to see it (yeah I'm kinda blind, so what). Â I'm not coming to this place and expecting it to be fine dining. Â I'm coming here to have a cold draft and to watch the game. Â In that regard, it is a total success.
Review Source:Food was disgusting. We had a Patty Melt and the Texas Burger. The "onion strings" that came on the burger were literally dust, not even anything to it. And the lettuce that came on it, it looked like it was from last year. It looked like something you would order from Denny's. The only thing that was good...was the service. And that is because they were empty....gee I wonder why, maybe because it sucks. Â Wouldn't go back if someone paid me to go. Â I would be embarrassed to be the owner. Stop spending money on tv's and put some quality into your food.
Review Source:I am shocked at reading the other reviews!!! This place has the best hamburgers I've ever had!!!!!!! Â The Cowboy cavier is a favorite of mine as well. Â The management is very accomodating for any issues people have. Â And, guy, get over it. Â They cater to "screming brats" after their games. Â Kudos to them for it. Â This is a family fun sports bar. Â I love the loud, fun energy and all the TVs AND ESPECIALLY the GREAT food. Â I'm glad they chose Moorpark to establish their sports bar. Â Sue F.
Review Source:The wife and I went to see the Bears vs Packers game on Sunday night football.
Got a booth, surrounded by HDTV sets and COULD NOT HEAR A DAMN THING! They have plenty of TV sets in the place, but, despite the speakers mounted in the ceiling throughout the place, they keep the volume down and all you hear are the screaming brats from the after-baseball or soccer games.
I'll get back to the TV, but first the menu.
1.) There are no cold snacks, i.e. chips & salsa, popcorn, peanuts, nachos, etc. Everything they serve as 'snacks' are hot, i.e buffalo wings, sliders, etc. By the time they bring you the food, the food is cold. Order the fries or onion rings and EAT FAST. Â They've got plenty of choices on the menu (salads, pasta, entree, etc.) but for the most part, the menu fails to appeal to sports fans.
2.) The wife and I have been to dozens of sports bars across the country and this is the FIRST place on earth that serves a Bloody Mary in a shot glass. We complained. The waitress said the bartender was a part-timer and it was his first night. First night?! What restaurant owner puts his "first-night-part-timer" behind the bar on opening week of the NFL?
3.) Beer? Glasses are small. Beer not as cold or fizzy as, let's say, most other sports bars on Earth!
4.) No pizza.
5.) I repeat. No pizza.
NOTE: The bathroom is built for one. In most sports bars, guys get to go take a leak in a room with 3 or 4 urinals, with a potty box nearby. Here, the room has an open toilet, with one urinal. With a restaurant full of beer drinkin' football fans, this is NOT the place to be to get relief.
This is has SO MUCH POTENTIAL to be a GREAT sports bar, but fails in so many ways.
Yeah, it could be said that this is the "best" sports grill in the area, but look around - WHAT ARE YOUR CHOICES?
