50 years. That's a long time. And many, many pies ago. I read that is how long Ed & Kay's has been in business.
The location is right off I-30 in Benton. It's an indiscreet, white building, with a sign easily seen from the highway. The restaurant is inviting enough, with a sweet staff.
My husband and I had only been by Ed & Kay's one other time, years ago. The family stopped off for pie on the way to Hot Springs. It was pouring down rain, so we ate our pie in the car. I remember that pie being good. This visit was no different.
We started with some breakfast items (served all day) - a breakfast burrito and ham, egg, & cheese biscuit - with sides of new potatoes, fried potatoes, and mac & cheese. All filling and flavorful. Only lukewarm, however- a little disappointing.
For dessert, we tried the famous PCP pie (pineapple, coconut, and pecan.) It was very good! Our waitress was also very attentive and personable.
Spectacular fried chicken. When yankees wax poetic about Southern fried chicken, this is what they are dreaming of.
Selection seems to change daily based on availability and/or the whim of the chef.
The PCP pie is wonderful, sickeningly sweet. I take it to go and attack it over two days to avoid the diabetes.
