50 years. That's a long time. And many, many pies ago. I read that is how long Ed & Kay's has been in business.

The location is right off I-30 in Benton. It's an indiscreet, white building, with a sign easily seen from the highway. The restaurant is inviting enough, with a sweet staff.

My husband and I had only been by Ed & Kay's one other time, years ago. The family stopped off for pie on the way to Hot Springs. It was pouring down rain, so we ate our pie in the car. I remember that pie being good. This visit was no different.

We started with some breakfast items (served all day) - a breakfast burrito and ham, egg, & cheese biscuit - with sides of new potatoes, fried potatoes, and mac & cheese. All filling and flavorful. Only lukewarm, however- a little disappointing.

For dessert, we tried the famous PCP pie (pineapple, coconut, and pecan.) It was very good! Our waitress was also very attentive and personable.

Spectacular fried chicken. When yankees wax poetic about Southern fried chicken, this is what they are dreaming of.

Selection seems to change daily based on availability and/or the whim of the chef.

The PCP pie is wonderful, sickeningly sweet. I take it to go and attack it over two days to avoid the diabetes.

Probably the sweetest little roadside diner you'll ever visit. Everything we ate was delicious: hand-battered chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, cucumber salad, chicken & dressing, sweet potatoes, and hand-fried potatoes. Sweet tea was refreshing, and the PCP (pineapple, coconut, pecan) pie was divine. If you're driving through Benton, stop by and see Kay! She'll treat you right.

I was told that I needed to stop here for pie by a friend. They knew I was going to be here during the breakfast hour but when there is good pie near, anytime is pie time.

I have to start and say that our waitress Phyllis was great. Loved her personality.

I also have to say that they do not have pie ready during breakfast here. Which made me sad but I understand if you want to eat good pie with lunch or dinner, you probably don't want the stuff that has been sitting out all day and night.

The biscuits and gravy were really good. The gravy was really thick and could not runny like I am used to. Great flavor too. I wish I was able to make biscuits as good as theirs.

Phyllis felt bad that there was no fresh pie and so she surprised us by bringing out three slices of the pie from the day before for us to try before we left.

The pecan pie was perfect. I will never be able to make a pecan pie this good.

German Chocolate Cake Pie. You can only eat a few bites because it is completely decadent. You might have to sit awhile to consume all of its goodness.

The third pie was also a chocolate pie that reminded me of eating a brownie. yum yum!

I was glad we were able to taste the good stuff. I highly, highly recommend stopping here if you are anywheres close to Benton. Make sure you come in the afternoon to guarantee yourself a piece of their pie!

We all ordered veggie plates, which were fine. The Texas toast was particularly tasty.

But what matters is the pie, right? All told we ordered the PCP - pineapple coconut pecan, the pecan, the chocolate cream, and the sugar free apple. It was all good pie. The chocolate cream came with a six inch high meringue topping that I was too chicken to try, but Renee said it was the best meringue she'd ever eaten. The pecan pie may have been the best pecan pie I've had. The filling had such a pleasing consistency, soft but not goopy.

Great service. I think one woman may have been covering the whole restaurant, if not whole, definitely half, but everything arrived in a timely manner.

The restaurant is closed Mondays & Tuesdays.

By the way, this restaurant has been written up on <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Froadfood.com&s=c71abc77e6e3d2572528f659eb2898ddc393005eba72281c4197cd4e3c226f89" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://roadfood.com</a>
