The Elephant Bar  (EBR) is a good place to get out of the heat but aside from that its pretty ah what ever.  I had a really bland cobb salad that was nothing special, but priced as if it was haute cuisine. Â
I'm not hating the EBR but I'm can't think of anything to recommend except they have excellent air-conditioning. Â And that is a tall order on a blazing 105-degree Citrus Heights afternoon.
Just enjoyed lunch here. They have a new BBQ menu, with 4-5 BBQ dishes. The Thai BBQ Salmon was delicious except for a couple bone fragments I found mixed in with the brown fried rice. Broccolini on the side (substituted for asparagus because that stuff is disgusting) rounded out a pleasant meal. A little pricey at $16.95, though...
My family really enjoys this place, so we've come pretty often. Everything I've gotten has been fine - not great, not bad, just middle of the road. The fact that I've been here probably 10-15 times over the last 5 years and can't recall any dish I've ordered should tell you how memorable the food is. That, and the menu is rather lengthy, so I'm not sure I've ever had the same thing twice. Lots of variety available, though!
We hit Happy Hour (Monday - Friday, 3pm-7pm) once before and enjoyed it, though the bar was even more crowded than the restaurant. I had some amazing pretzel sticks, but I haven't seen them on the menu the last times I've been, so maybe they were discontinued.
However, the atmosphere is always fun, with fake elephant heads coming out of the walls, unique (African style?) fans along the ceiling, etc. It's kind of noisy, but I'm finding that's the case in most restaurants nowadays.
The service has always been great, even when it's really busy, which is often. Wait time is occasionally pretty ridiculous, but anyone dining out during dinner time the latter half of the week should expect some crowds.
Parking is sparse around the restaurant, but it's situated right in front of Sunrise Mall and there is plenty of free mall parking around, so no issues there as long as you don't mind a short walk. Short like 100 yards or less, usually.
I want to compliment Elephant Bar's Management in the way how well they have trained their servers. Â Service is prompt even when busy. Â The servers are ALWAYS pleasant and they know how to time in serving each course. Â
The appetizers, side dishes, and main dishes are tastefully done. Â Having grown up in a restaurant and done as much traveling and tasting food all over, I'm pleased to say the Elephant Bar is a wonderful place to come back each time.
Well they are always busy! They have a wide variety of dishes they offer which is always nice to have a choice. I had macaroni and chicken fingers... eating like a toddler again... but they were both really solid! Their happy hour is pretty good so I do like to get there when I'm in the area.
Review Source:I have been a longtime fan of Elephant Bar and although quality seems to have suffered slighthly since they first opened up here Ebar is still one of my Favs. Â Elephant fields a pretty good variety of foods and does them well. Â Prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is elephant cool. Happy hour is a good value as well serving $4 mojitos and a good variety of appetizers in the $4-7 range. The chicken tenders with honey mustard dipping sauce has been our favorite chicken tender for over a decade. I would rate Elephant over its competitiors: Applebees, Chilis and Fridays and pretty much equal to Cheesecake.
Review Source:I have reluctantly been to this location on several occasions because my best friend loves it. He is a big fan of their Lamb Shank. As for me, I think their food is just ohh-Kay. The best part of my meal is usually not the main dish, but the sides. For example, I ordered the macadamia nut crusted chicken which came with spinach, and the spinach tasted better. A few nights ago, I had their new "Wood-fired salmon" (or whatever its called) with Indian citrus sauce and Raita (cucumber yogurt commonly served alongside Indian dishes) with brown rice. The rice didn't taste so fresh, the salmon could have been MUCH bigger, but the Raita and sauce was delicious.
I am giving Elephant Bar two stars for the food with an extra star for consistently good service.
I have been coming to this location since I was a jr in high school which was in 2003. I did move out of state for awhile and coming back it seems that this restaurant possible got taken over by a new corporate owner, perhaps not. The menu now is intense and in depth. I love the spinach artichoke dip. I often meet my dad here for lunch on the weekend. The staff is awesome. The last time I went a few weeks ago our server was extraordinary. I wish I had gotten her name because I would have liked to send a thank you note to her and her management. She really made our meal fun and enjoyable. The restaurant is very clean and the food is delicious. I highly recommend eating here if you are in the area.
Review Source:I've gone to this specific location over a dozen times for dinner and drinks over the past 5+ years.
Overall great atmosphere, great menu, the price is right on!
The service is always excellent and I've never had a complaint about the food. Â I recommend the lamb and the crusted fish. Â Wait time seems to be perfectly timed by the staff. Â Great for family get together, a date with the better half, or a group of friends!
Probably a good spot for new years eve if you don't wanna get too wild but still have an evening out! Â Happy new year everyone!
great Been here twice in the past 3 weeks. First experience Was Great! Steve (Host) was Great and very customer friendly! Our server Kim was also very helpful and Great server, but our 2nd time Jen (Jennifer) Was the best service I have had in a while! Jen being busy still took the time to help us with our choices and great attitude :)
Favorite people Steve (host) and Server (Jennifer) WAHOOOO :)
This place has definitely dropped for me. Service was awful and the food just so so. The waitress never checked back to see if our party of four were happy. We were truly an after thought. This place really needs to invest in some serious training of their staff from the minute you walk in. It's become too easy and they don't care. Â Manager included, sitting in a booth chowing down and does not bother to ask even one booth if they are happy. Can only go up from here!
Review Source:Ugh...I'm not coming back on Saturday nights anymore...
We get there a little before 5pm and the place was already packed. After waiting 10 minutes for a table, we waited another 10 minutes for the waiter to take our order and get our drinks. They stuck us way in the back corner at a table right in the middle of the walkway so people kept bumping into us as they tried to get past. Of course this was also the area where they sequestered all the families with screaming kids. There were flies buzzing all over the place and I was surprised that none got into my food. Everyone else I was with had some sort of salad or pasta dish and I had a burger, but it was pretty small in comparison and I hardly got any fries.
It was loud, dirty, and crowded.
I (USED TO) love this place. Decadent high calorie comfort food on the fancy side, but served in a decidedly casual and comfortable venue. New york cheesecake to die for. The food earns four stars, but the service slipped this time. How long do we have to wait for a dessert menu? 15 minutes, and we still had to ask. Also my Philly cheese steak was dry, and the french fries were cold. Three out of five because only three out of four visits were outstanding.
UPDATE: I'm taking a star away. Went there for my birthday annual pilgrimage, just to have the cheesecake desert. We had to ask for water three times during our visit, and the vibe i got was they don't serve it unless you ask. What the heck kind of restaurant doesn't deliver water to guests as they sit down?? Â The appetizers we ordered were garlic bread and three cheese macaroni. The bread was stale and cold, the macaroni was dry. The entrees arrived and were good. This is the only reason I didn't take two stars away. When all was said and done, we ordered our desert only to be told they ran out of cheesecake. What kind of POOR MANAGEMENT runs out of food in the middle of the week? I can understand it on an unusually busy weekend or holiday, but flag day in the middle of a nothing week? Come on! Elephant bar, I am not returning. Your service is amateur at best, you have slipped far from my first three visits.
You know this is turning out to be a decent pit stop for me. Â They have a great happy hour deal, so when i need a quick bite/drink and i don't want to trek down to midtown this hits the spot. Â Great happy hour prices. Â
The staff are very helpful and friendly too.
Good, korean beef tacos, sweet potato fries, salmon tempura roll. Â That's it so far.
The atmosphere is pretty fun. It reminds me of a low-budget Rainforest Cafe. It's jungle-ish without the waterfalls and moving animals. And I've never seen the chocolate lava, sparkling desserts.
I wouldn't come here for dinner or anything, as the food is nothing to get overly excited about. I will go anywhere for an awesome happy hour though! $4 mojitos? DONE. They have a pretty diverse happy hour menu with a pretty good amount of drinks and a variety of food. The chicken wraps were the only good thing I had there during happy hour, but they also have a burger deal that sounded like a really good deal.
Love this place! Many many restaurants have come and gone in this exact spot next to Sunrise Blvd at Sunrise Mall. This one succeeded because the management is on top of things and the food is good...
I'm not real quick to give out five stars all the time but this one is very close to five...
Love the atmosphere, in particular the exotic ceiling fans and elephant. Â Plenty of parking being right next to the mall. Â Its a popular place so if you get there during dinner time, expect to wait. Â
On this visit I had the Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl with brown rice. Â Not only was the meat very tasty but the vegetables and rice too. Â My family loves to get the mango raspberry swirl drinks.
This restaurant has really stepped up their game. Â The drinks were generous in the volume (especially the wine) and the service we received was excellent given the place was packed for lunch. Â I had the Shrimp and Noodle soup with Salmon Sushi rolls....the soup was really good!
The server made sure to tell us about their discount club, I filled out a short application on-line and received 15% off our meal and a $10 coupon.....What a deal!!!!
If you have not been here in a while, I recommend you give it another try!
The only reason I won't give it 5 stars is because ... well ... their menu is FKN HUGE. Â And I always default back to the same item. Â Why is that? Â IDK.
Anyway, EBar is cool during happy hour. Â It's corporate so you aren't getting a stiff drink. Â And you won't ever get a hookup, even if you're a regular.
That is all. Â Goodday.
If you're over 40 but not dead and still like to go out on a Friday or Saturday night but don't want to drive all the way downtown, then the Elephant Bar is the place for you. Yes, both the bar and restaurant can get crowded, but its filled with your fellow middle-aged singles and couples who are all having a good time. Service is quick and friendly and the happy hour prices from 5:00 - 7:00 and again from 9:00-11:00 can't be beat. The food is nothing really special, but its decent for a chain restaurant.
Again, if you're under 40, don't waste your time because you probably won't care for this place, but if you grew up in the 70's or 80's - check it out!
Having only been to the Arden location and not really enjoying myself, I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, super nice servers and good food! This location seems to really have it's act together! I took one star off only because I felt our server had too many tables to take care of and didn't come around enough for refills.
Otherwise, very good location and right next to Sunrise Mall!
This is a great place. Good selection. Maybe even too many options. Everything I've tried is good. The shrimp and steak are both worth ordering.
The staff is very friendly. We did a Christmas gathering of 20 with separate checks and they were very happy to have our business. Good service and a great attitude.
They also have a nice bar. A very enjoyable place to meet someone.
It's good to have a backup plan. It's even better when that backup plan has a Happy Hour. On a UFC pay-per-view fight night, I rolled up to Sac to hang out with friends I hadn't seen in far too long & watch the fights.
We all congregated at a casual chain restaurant well known for multitudes of flat screens always tuned into sporting events. Sure enough UFC pay-per-view was on. Sure enough the place was packed way beyond standing room only.
After short deliberations, we all decided to say "screw it" to the madding hordes & all the unwashed masses who have no qualms standing, elbowing 1 another & breathing all over each others' food while eating. We packed it in & went to the Elephant Bar down the street.
What a huge difference. No fights. Whatever. No crowds. Hallelujah! Elephant Bar has 2 Happy Hours & we made it into the 1st. Ordering exclusively from the Happy Hour menu, we ate & drank like kings.
Appetizers for only a few bucks, $3 Margaritas, $4 Mojitos, $5 Long Islands, it was on like Donkey Kong. We loaded up so much, in fact, that we coasted to the 2nd Happy Hour without ordering much in between. Then it was $3 Margarita madness all over again.
Elephant Bar Happy Hour rocks! So I didn't get to see UFC pay-per-view. So what. I got to be in the company of friends in a relaxed, comfortable setting & was able to have a conversation without shouting.
As I stated in a review of another Elephant Bar location, there's nothing here that will ever warrant a James Beard award but everything we had was decent & Happy Hour prices are cheap. So, to feast like a king on the budget of a pauper, get to Elephant Bar Happy Hour.
To put it simply: Good atmosphere, Good service, Bad food.
I ordered one of the lunch specials. The macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi was overcooked, the fries were undercooked and the cole slaw tasted pre-packaged. My mother got the chicken and shrimp jambalaya but it tasted like tomato sauce. As in, all we could taste was the tomato sauce. It tasted like a bad italian dish. The cheese bread wasn't bad though.
Probably won't go back again.
Meh.
If it wasn't close to where I worked, I'd probably never go. Sooner or later if you work at a location you will exhaust all places to eat. This is one of the places that win because of that exhaustion.
The jalapeno margarita was good though. The jambalaya was pretty good. My coworker/friend suggested we pay to split a dinner order, and he was right. You get way more food for less money. That made it almost worth it.
Myself and three others dined here last night at around 8:30.
We had a ten minute wait which was completely acceptable and were seated in a booth near the back due to the packed restaurant.
The server (Jim) asked us if we wanted drinks, I asked for waters while we decided.
Our friends met us at the table after going to the restroom and as soon as they sat down Jim was back, asking in a monotone voice if we had decided. Â Our friends had been seated for less than 5 seconds.
Between us all we ordered the Sweet potato Fries, the Vietnamese spring rolls, Sampler Platter, a coffee and a side Macaroni.
The sweet potato fries are always on point but the spring rolls left MUCH to be desired. Loosely wrapped and with too much mint, we didn't finish them. Macaroni was ok, there were shrimp casings still on the coconut shrimp, and the bruschetta on the sampler was soggy, eaten shortly after being delivered.
Jim came back to give us water and spilled it on my friend and on the table and didn't say a word. Â My husband had to ask if there were free refills on coffee as his cup had been empty for most of the meal.
Jim was void of personality and I only knew his name from the receipt. Â I have absolutely no intention of returning.
I love the elephant bar. I am sad it's usually so busy we can't even get a table. But, apparently going at 3 pm on Friday is a good time to go.
My husband had the jalapeno burger. He said it was ok, nothing to write home about. The cole slaw was bland, but crunchy.
I had the fish and chips. Really good, probably would be better if I wasn't coming down with a cold and I could taste it better. The mac and cheese was good too.
Above all, we had the best service ever! Mary (our server) was excellent. Even if the food sucked, we would come back just to sit in her section.
I can say everything I've ever eaten here was really good.
Not bad... I quite enjoyed my two visits here in the last few weeks. Â On my first visit, I came here with my best friend and his fiance and we sat in the bar during happy hour. Â With TGI Friday's gone for now in the Sacramento Area, this place is a good place to go for great priced drinks and tasty appetizers! Â All together we had 5 drinks and and appetizer and came out only spending $35 after tip! Â Awesome! Â Our drinks ran around $5 each and they included a Martini mixed with Absolute Vodka. Â Our appetizer was the garlic bread, which I highly recommend all 1200 calories of garlicy goodness :-)
On my second visit, I ordered for to go and was very impressed with the speed of service! Â I ordered my meal and ten minutes later the server came up to me with a black bag full of food. Â Seriously, as packed as the restaurant was, my food was delivered to me in a more than timely fashion.
Other suggestions: Â Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich... although runs $8.95 for an average sized sandwich, it was worth every penny with the garden salad!
In short, good happy hour (with long sessions too!), good (not great) service at the bar, and great to go service... thank you E-bar! Â I might consider purchasing $100 gift cards at Costco for $80 now :-)
My fellow Yelpers, are you spot on or what?
Yes, I was mentally thinking in my head during my last visit, "This place is about three stars." Lo and behold, Elephant Bar averages three stars on Yelp. Whoa.
Why you ask? Well, I have been here a bunch o' times so I feel justified in my rating. The last visit over the weekend is what prompted me to finally do this review.
Came in last Sunday in the afternoon. Sat in the bar area with a friend and waited. And waited. And waited.
The bartender casually looked over but continued wiping glasses. Finally I located some menus and brought two to the table. Sensing that the natives were restless, the bartend asked what we wanted. I was craving a hefeweizen and asked how much. He didn't know, but our waiter would. Taking a gamble, I ordered it anyway. How costly would an Elephant Bar beer cost anyways?
Our waiter FINALLY arrived. No apologies, nothing. Friend ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls ($7.95). When they finally came, it was two small rolls cut in half with some salad. Wow. It looked bigger in the picture! For the $$$ it seemed like a rip off.
When the bill came, my beers - I had two - came to $10.50. Argh! I am on a budget and wasn't expecting it to cost THAT much. I suppose if our waiter did his job I wouldn't have been so surprised. I mean, sure maybe it is only a buck or two more than I would have liked, but it is the principle!
I still give this place three stars because numerous times that I have come here before, the food and service was better. However, after this experience I think I'll look around and try something new.
There was nothing especially amazing about this place. Â I had the salmon roll and the shrimp noodle soup combo for 9 bucks with an iced tea. Â I wanted to get one of their beautiful drinks, but the other ladies I were with weren't drinking, so I didn't want to drink alone, too depressing. Â The salmon roll was pretty tasty but wasn't wrapped very tightly. Â The soup had great flavor but the noodles were a bit soggy. Â
I'd come back if someone else picked it, but probably not on my own unless someone suggested a happy hour spot. Â I must try those drinks!
This chain does one thing right and one thing only: make the most fruity drinks that melt in your mouth like candy *drool*
the food is always so-so, but this particular occasion revealed a most tasty burger... i think it was the mushroom & swiss that definitely warrants a second visit to sample.
i was not particularly impressed with the service as we asked to be seated on the patio (and in that case, was asked to wait). but when we were finally guided to our seat 10 minutes later, it wasn't on the patio. so then we waited in the middle of the restaurant while the hostess got permission to seat us out there.
once permission was granted, we sat quite a while before being greeted. the "delay in service" theme followed throughout the meal.
This is my favorite Elephant bar in this area mainly because the service exceeds the others. We usually get the same waitress (although her name escapes me) and she never lets our drinks get to far below half empty before we have another coming our way.
Elephant bar offers a lot of different types of foods - and that's why I enjoy going here - especially if my boyfriend and I can't decide what type of food we want to go out to.
My favorite dish is the sweet and sour chicken - always moist and amazing! AND if you like Elephant Bar you should definitely try there new sweet potato fries (just ask for extra dipping sauce - they don't give you enough) - they are first bite "omg"
And as far as the price ($9 - 14 a plate? really? That's not bad) - it's really not that bad compared to other restaurants in the area. Denny's doesn't even hold a candle to Elephant Bar either.
Eh. I am over the Elephant bar in general. We came here because my daughter likes it. It kind of reminds me of a jungle-y over priced, over rated Denny's except that I actually love Denny's.
We sat in a booth so narrow it pushed my breasts over the table which made it look like I was serving them for lunch. The waitress suggested I try this macadamia nut encrusted fish w/chips which was well weird and so not my taste. The girls liked their chicken Caesar salad and tri tip steak w/bbq shrimp.
It was an OK experience as usual. The Jungle Mai-Tai was weak and over priced. I'd be happier just about any other place however it's not bad for customer service or food, it's just not my style.
