Have been coming here for years since I work @ UPS down the street . Got off of work around 930 and was ready for a drink and maybe an appetizer , so I walk in and it's a lively friday evening in the bar since the after work crowd had been drinking for hours , sat down at the end of the bar that the tender wiped off for me since he could not do it before I got there...... did not say much to me or offer me a drink selection , I had to tell him what i wanted , once i got my beer I was forgotten about completely.... no mention if I wanted to order any food , kiss my ass , nothing . What i did notice is that they were more worried about closing the bar in 2 hours than offering any kind of service as they were cleaning everything up and putting everything away. Â Aggravated I drank my beer and split leaving a .50 tip . Â Weakest service EVER !!
Should have gone to Friday's down the street
Cool little getaway. Stopped in with the boss and some colleagues a while back and had appetizers at the bar and made small talk with the bartender.
I wasn't drinking mid-day (not like me, I know, right? I'm gettin' old!)... but my water was never empty! Plus he transferred the entire bill to the a waitress once our entire party arrived (that's class, and I was surprised -- what a guy)...
Food was good, a notch above chains and didn't taste frozen or "heated" in any way. The service when we were there was good and the wait staff was friendly. Cool little meeting spot for folks that are in the area - nice atmosphere - bright and airy and a lot of space to kick your legs out.
'Til next time we're in the area...
I met a friend for lunch here at his suggestion. I didn't have high expectations, which was good, because it neither disappointed or thrilled me.
Compared to other Elephant Bar locations I've been to, this one just felt a little old and worn. I couldn't help but notice the wooden dividers between booths had layers of dust on them, so much that there were baby dust bunnies.
The service was really good. Our server was very nice, friendly, and efficient.
I ordered a lunch special off their summer menu: the Southwest BBQ chicken salad. The chicken was dry but did have a good smokey flavor. The various items making up the salad were all very fresh though, from the avocado and lettuce to the ginger and tomato. As I write this I am realizing that I wasn't given any dressing which I think they were suppose to supply on the side. Maybe I'm wrong about that but it could have used some dressing regardless. It was okay but lacked pizazz.
I went back and forth between 2 and 3 stars but my buddy liked his meal a lot (Parmesan chicken and Tuscan style shrimp) so I'll give 'em 3.
To start off the evening with disappointment, we waited over 10 minutes before our server even greeted us or took or drink order. Then I was even more bummed to get my pear and gorgonzola salad that was pretty darn gross. The salad was old and wilted and my pear actually had the sticker still attached. Did they even wash the pear..... For my entree I order the tri tip. Usually good tri tip can be cut with your fork, but not at the EBR, I could barely cut it with a knife. My teeth didn't enjoy trying to chew through the rubbery texture that wasn't worth the effort. They try to cover the low quality meat with a ton of teriyaki type sauce. The place is extremely pricey especially since they are serving low quality food.
Review Source:Excellent change from the norm , not only is menu great a warm sitting to try a variety of good food explore the taste of Asian ideas presented with a home twist very affordable my wife and I enjoy the service has added the elephant bar to our resturant list. Wow I'm reading some of the reviews maybe the kids should stick to what they know happy meals and in n out fries with thousand island dressing
Review Source:Just awful, honestly I've given this place multiple chances & it has failed miserably. Â I'm sitting in thier booth currently with my boyfriend & he just found a cranberry in his chicken sandwich. Yes, a cranberry... who knows where this rouge little berry came from. Just gross. The service is consistently horrible, the waitresses are forgetful & rude. Just bleh.
Review Source:Yeah a lot of their meals are pretty expensive for what you get. However, we only go here when we have coupons so we get a great deal. We love the chicken Marsala with mashed potato's and spinach! SO GOOD!
There is one waiter (I forget his name) who is so awesome! He knows what we want before we ask and he is quick and polite! Granted there are a couple of other waiter/waitresses who do have a snappy attitude but overall not too bad.
Wait for coupons if price is a concern and try the chicken Marsala.
Wow, snappy waitress...moody, tapping her pen cause she couldn't wait on my 88yr old grandpa to tell my mom what he wanted... I don't do rude and she was very snobby. I understand its Mother's Day weekend and you may want to spend it with your family instead of working, but go to the back take a few breathers and remind yourself that your attitude will affect your tip.
She does however know how to upsell since she was telling us to add everything on without mentioning that it was extra.
Ate:
Appetizer sampler: bruschetta was okay, coconut shrimp was pretty good, chicken tasted like it was from the frozen section, sweet potato fries were nothing to rave about, spinach and artichoke dip same.
Various entrees from burgers to salad to rice to pasta: grandma complained about the brown rice being hard, and I thought it was cause she doesn't eat brown rice but I tried it and it was crunchy and dry. Even tried my grandpas and it was the same. My younger brother was complaining about the buns on his burger were soggy and falling apart on him. My pasta was bland but the chicken was fine surprisingly.
Took us a while to get our server back so we can pay.
I guess it's a hit or miss here and it was a miss for me.
Don't get the petit steak. The service was nice, our server was as polite as she could be but the food was bad, just horrible. From over cooked ribs, to a steak that tasted like cardboard. The baked potato was cold and awful. I didn't return the food but did mention that it was very bad. I honestly did not want a reason to return. I was happy knowing that I would never return again.
Review Source:Dear Elephant Bar,
Though your decor is breathtaking, your food is mediocre and overpriced.
I only come here because it's close to my house, but if you can afford to drive to Cerritos BJs, you'll get the same food, better quality, and at comparable price. Most of the time, this place is dead - although I've never been here for lunch.
They do have a happy hour though. Monday - Friday 3pm to 7pm and EVERYDAY 9pm to close. I guess they deserve a star or two for $3 Margaritas. :)
Came here for business lunch at the recommendation of the guest. It's located right across the parking lot of Clearman's Steakhouse. Even though it was crowded for lunch we were seated almost immediately. They have many choices on the menu and the guest told me this chain restaurant changes specials on a regular basis, just to keep it fresh. I ordered the Steak and Jumbo Shrimp combo with brown rice. You have a fried rice option for those who don't care for brown rice. I think those that like the PF Changs style of sauces would enjoy this dish. The sauce is a little more thick and sweet then I prefer but OK. Steak strips were over cooked, but since the waitress didn't ask how we like them I think that's the standard well done offering. The steak is served on fresh mixed vegetable with that thick sauce I mentioned. Shrimp were a nice presentation, but not delicious sweet shrimp as I would expect for the price. Nice dessert offerings but we had to get back to work so passed on them. Overall this place is ................real average.
Review Source:I just went here for lunch today, OH MY GOSH!!!! This place is terrible!!!! Â The food was absolutely AWFUL!!!!!! Â I ordered the Jambalaya ...GROSS. Â The rice was hard and stuck together in large chunks, the sauce was like spaghetti sauce. No spice at all. It was like mush. Â I think I'm gonna be sick now...BARF.
Review Source:Review is for the happy hour only
Have been here a few times on friday nightd for the late night happy hour. Prices are great, drinks are great, service is AWFUL!!!!!
The past 3 visits I have stood at the entrance of the bar area for 10 minutes waiting for someone to greet us and offer us a table or to clean up one that we could take. IT DOESNT HAPPEN!!!!!
About 3 weeks ago I waited and waited and had at least 4 workers walk past us, avoiding eye contact, I left and went to Red Robin, where I had great service.
Last night we had to flag down a busser from the restaurant side to please clean us up a table to sit after standing waiting for acknowledgement for over 10 minutes. Then once he cleared us a table it was another 15 before our server even acknowledged us!!! He ended up being a really good waiter, but still, not acceptable!!
The two stars awarded are for prices and yummy drinks, the other 3 have been stripped away for poor service
Our favorite happy hour place! Bartenders always remember us, and our orders! Staff is always friendly and the service is always great. We've never had a problem with our drinks or food. EVER. We stick to the bar, and the bar only, so I can't speak for the rest of the place or the waiters. All I can say is kudos to the bartenders and we'll definitely be back soon! :)
Review Source:Although the hostess was not up front when we first arrived, and had to be greeted by a rushed and quite busy busboy, we had fantastic service by our server at the bar. The restaurant was clean, well lit and a great over all environment. We started with the mozzarella and bruschetta appetizer, which was absolutely divine! I ordered the Ahi tuna salad, which was a solid B in my book. The lettuce wasn't the freshest, or was left out for too long, but overall it was ok. The mud pie dessert was delectable!
Next time I'll try a burger.
Don't go to the La Marada location. They so not busy they close down the kitchen 45 minutes before closing so you can't order food when you come in 30 minutes to closing. The Downey location is the best. Â Their open the lastest, you can order from I Pads on the table and your food arrives just how you customized it. 5 stars for that loaction minus stars for La Marada. The manager at La Marada told us he needed to save labor cost. Even though Happy hour goes to 11 pm you can't order anything but chips and dip after 10:30 P.M.
Review Source:I been to Elephant Bar (chain) in the past, and my experience has just been ok. Today was not any different. The ambiance is definitely its strong point. However, I went around lunch time and the place was crowed with office crowds and random large parties. We were a party of two so seating was not an issue. The place is pretty big and looks to be able to accommodate large parties (as they appear to advertise via a large banner in the restaurant).
While our server treated us well, and checked up on us a lot, the food was just average and nothing special. The prices were a bit higher though and the food was not as up to par in comparison to comparable chain restaurants such as Cheesecake Factory and/or Wood Grill, etc.
Before they serve things similar to claim jumper, but their menu appears to have taken an "Asian" twist, with Mongolian beef and kung pao chicken. Â Not exactly my cup of tea, at a place like this. I think there are a lot of Asian options which are less expensive and likely better tasting.
We came here for my dad's birthday despite all the negative reviews. As an avid yelper, whyy???
PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING. OR JUST DON'T GO AT ALL.
Let me start by saying we came with a party of 7 1/2, so this is based on several dishes, not just 1 or 2. And there were so many things that went wrong, but to keep this relatively brief I'm just highlighting the worst.
FOOD: 1 STAR
Rice: Hard. And not just on one dish.
Bread: Not complimentary. And when we sliced it up there was a PIECE OF A BLUE RUBBER GLOVE BAKED INTO THE BREAD.
SERVICE: 1 STAR
You might forgive a server when the party is on the larger side. But this doesn't excuse the fact that she walked by our table MULTIPLE times throughout the 2 hours without checking on us.
About the rubber glove in our bread incident. Okay, accidents happen. But they didn't bother to comp anything??? At the very LEAST not even our $3 bread..??? That is HORRIBLE customer service.
AMBIANCE: 2.5 stars
The interior of the restaurant is fine. Nothing special. Clean enough. Pretty big and spacious with a patio and conference room. But what is the point of having such a large facility if you're not going to accommodate your guests with the appropriate ratio of servers to people. This has drastically affected their service in a negative way.
PRICE: 1 star
For all the above? Yea, not worth your dime or time.
The Elephant Bar is a huge restaurant off of Valley View exit ( 5 fwy) and Firestone. Â I stopped here to meet with my assistant for lunch today. Â
The decor is upscale. Â The service was right on point. Â I ordered iced tea and I don't think it was ever empty even though I drink gallons of it.
My assistant ordered some Chinese dish, which he claims was better than PF Chang's. Â I ordered the 1/2 ribs plate, which was meh. Â Price was reasonable for the ambiance.
I decided to make it a point to check this place out since I usually stay at the Holiday Inn across the street when in town for business. The theme of this restaurant confuses the heck outta me, I don't get how the asian-fusion thing mixes in with the Elephant Bar name, but hey its all good, to each their own..
I went with the Crispy Shrimp and an order of Vietnamese spring rolls. The food was OK, reminiscent of Panda Express but wayyy more expensive. I will say I received GREAT customer service and the people there are very friendly. But on the negative side I paid close to $30 for my meal with the spring rolls and tip, that's pretty high in my book..
Bottom line is while I received great service, the food was just OK and the prices are steep.
I can only judge this place for lunch. I ahve a strick one hour lunch break and I like coming here during lunch because they are always fast. Food is good but not spectacular.
Soup/salad combo is usually what I get. $8.95 for good soup and fresh salad.
Ahi bowl is pretty good also but not worth $13.
Rather go next door to Northwood Inn.
Since the Elephant Bar is close to our office it is a popular choice for lunch meetings. Â I have not had a bad meal here. Â The food is generally good. Â I would give it a 3.5 overall.
The three cheese macaroni is a good choice for a side. Â It is creamy, tasty, and has bread crumbs sprinkled on it.
I have had the pastrami sandwhich a few times. Â It is pretty good. Â You get a lot of pastrami on the sandwhich.
The Smokehouse is also a good option.
The service is generally solid.
Dishonest.
Food was ok, but service was terrible. Granted, it was close to midnight when we were about to leave. But it was dishonest to run away with our bills, never to return with our change (not a small amount) and receipt. The second waiter we talked to did not come back either.
Maybe it's just an isolated incident, but I just can't stand dishonesty.
Came here tonight for the first time... IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!
1) Â ordered coffee...cold
2) ordered the lamb shank....cold in the inside and the sauce was bland!
3) the glass of water had a crack in the whole glass...if I would have dranked out of it then it would have been a disaster or even a law suit.
4) then when we got the bill, my bf only had one beer but waitress charged 2 beers.
While all this was happening Not Once did our waitress offer us to speak to the manager!
Not only did I had a horrible experience... WILL NEVER COME BACK AND WILL NEVER RECOMMEND!
I really like this place! Especially their Happy Hour! I recently went with a group of 9. Ordered happy hour drinks and happy hour food and non happy hour food. The service was great and food came out in a timely manner.
They have a great happy hour combo- burger, fries and beer $6.50-$8.50 depending on choice of beer. Their spring rolls are delicious and come on a bed of salad. So it's pretty much a meal in itself at the happy hour price of $5.50. And I must say that their Mojitos are fantastic! I usually hate Mojitos but the Elephant Bar Mojito is fantastic!! Â
The one negative thing I would say is that one happy hour menu was different from another happy hour menu they had on the table. So it was a bit confusing. Other than that, the place is great! I always enjoy my experience there.
Oh and a quick tip, when you're driving into Elephant Bar, make sure you do not get on the freeway instead. It's kinda tricky. It looks like an entrance to the Elephant Bar parking but you will actually get onto the freeway.
+1 For the bar area and the Happy Hour specials
+1 Excellent customer service from the bartender to the host to the server
Met up with a friend earlier this evening for dinner. Well, for me, a drink as well. Waited at the bar and I was compelled to order a tall Blue Moon. $5. Not bad for a cold, tall glass of beer after a long day at work. The bar area is more like a lounge and it's a cool place to meet up with friends, coworkers and maybe even family if drinking is the family pastime.
Most excellent customer service. The server offered up the opportunity for my friend and I to earn a free appetizer each (Mac & Cheese). All we had to do was complete the survey on our smart phones. It was free. How could we say "no"?
He was attentive, friendly and suggestive as he helped us pick out sides that came with our entrees. That was on top of the free sides we both already got (see paragraph above). Very efficient with refills and the check.
I wish I could praise the food like I did the service and the lounge. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi in Lobster Sauce. I can't say it was unforgettable because I can't forget how bland the dish was. The pasta was cooked well however the shrimp was a little too well done and the Lobster Sauce could have been much more creamier.
I dumped quite a bit of salt and pepper to help with the flavor but I just couldn't finish it all. Well, I could have, I just didn't want to. I didn't even take my leftovers to go.
I came here 3 years ago w/ my little sister & an old friend.
The streets here is super small and confusing!
we got lost for about half an hour -____- haha.
Well, anyways. we got into the restaurant and the decoration was decent, wasn't that nice. we came during lunch time around 3 & it was pretty empty. we ordered:
- Shrimp Adventure Platter
(grilled shrimp, coconut shrimp, fried shrimp, fries) $14.75
in the picture it looks like a lot to eat, but i suggest not ordering this because It was just decent, and i was still pretty hungry after eating different types of shrimp.
- MisoYaki Fresh Grilled Salmon
(rice, veggie & salmon) $14.95
this dish was pretty good. the salmon had alot of flavor.
- Shrimp & Chicken Jambalaya
(chicken, shrimp & rice) $12.50
I'm thinking 3 1/2 stars.
My grandma ALWAYS wants to go here every time I come up to visit here. I'm not a chain restaurant kind of person, but I finally agreed to go this time. It was actually pretty good for a chain/Disneylandish type of restaurant. Our waiter was very tacky and over friendly, but I didn't mind.
We both shared the thai shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce, which were very tasty.
For my meal, I ordered the tempura salmon rolls with noodle soup and a small chicken skewer on top. I ordered half the rolls without tempura, just to try it, and they were dry and gross. The normal tempura ones were pretty good. Sometimes it's best not to change the order. The noodle soup broth was flavorless and the noodles were nothing special, but I liked the vegetables in it. The chicken skewer was dry and hard, but it looked nice anyways.
My grandma ordered the cashew chicken with garlic mashed potatoes. I don't know why, because she's not supposed to eat greasy breaded foods. I wanted her to get the pad thai, but maybe next time. The chicken stir fry was good though and it has pieces of pineapple and cashews in it. The garlic mashed potatoes were also very good. A yummy dish, but so not healthy.
Overall, we had an enjoyable time, but I'd only go back if she insisted, or just for the thai spring rolls!
I went to the Elephant Bar this past Sunday with my parents and although we did enjoy the food (philly steak & prime rib sandwhich), I just don't like it when waiters sit down next to you to take your order. There is such a thing as PERSONAL space and I never like it when mine is invaded or when waiters try to be funny and they aren't.
The menu has a great variety of items from sandwiches to kung pao shrimp.
