Elke's Diner

A friend from Athens raved about the wonderful German food to be had at this restaurant, but when we visited here on a recent weekday for lunch, there was nary a German dish to be found on the menu.  Instead, it offered typical American diner food.  I had a grilled ham and cheese and my fiance had a hamburger, and both were just fine, with not-overly-huge portions at a reasonable price.  Elke's also features homemade desserts, so I had the key lime pie, which was excellent and fortunately not bright green, and he had the pecan pie, which he felt was ok but not great.

As he was paying the check, I read the framed newspaper clipping on the wall from 2004, and the article was raving about the wonderful German food at Elke's, so I guess my friend wasn't completely off the wall, but I wonder how long it's been since she came to Parkersburg!
